A beautiful & moving final journey for the Romanovs. And good to see Prince Michael of Kent there representing a nation who could have offered the Royal Family sanctuary under the protection of the Royal cousin,King George V.Sadly,he was preussurised by the then Prime Minister that Britain would not stand for this so he gave in & the omanovs suffered their dreadful fate. And if anyone ever resembled a Romanov then it's Prince Michael.R.I.P their Imperial Highnesses.
Was it St Petersburg that Stalin renamed Stalingrad. Then after the fall of the Soviet Union the name reverted back to St. Petersburg. Any one out there that can help me with this question?
@gotch09 St Petersburg was renamed Petrograd during the First World War as a result of prevalent anti-German feeling at the time. It was then renamed Leningrad after the 1917 October Revolution, and finally reverted back to St Petersburg after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Stalingrad was the name given to the city of Tsaritsyn in honour of his actions during the Russian Civil War, since the collapse of the Soviet Union it has been known as Volgograd. Hope that helps!
May God cradle them all in his loving arms, especially the children, and may the bastards that murdered them rot in hell for allm eternity, especially Yakov Yurovsky. The family could have been banished or exiled. Murder was something the Goddamned Bolsheviks WANTED to do! RIP Romanovs.
I wish Tsar Nicholas II and family were still alive. It is so sad the innocent have to die. I want to know what happened and wish that possibly one of the Romanov's were still alive. It is very sad when people just disappear, they could be dead or still alive but you will never know. God bless them and all the others that were killed or disappeared. RIP Tsar Nicholas II and family. May all my heart and mind and soul be with you. I wish that there were some family still here with us today. :(
The size of the coffin is because it is just bones - for normal burials the coffins are larger as otherwise you would have to carve the remains up! (Apologies for bluntness, a long habit). When there nare only bones it is the norma all over the west as well (including the UK) for a smaller casket. For afull size casket, there would be mostly space and the bones would rattle about in the large area. It is small so as to hold the relics firm without squashing. There would be some padding.
The Russians murdered the royal family so the least they could have done is given them a decent and proper burial. At all cost! Keep in mind that their graves weren't discovered for decades. Russians are notorious about covering up their dirty deeds.
Maria and Alexey (one daughter and the only son, the heir) aren't even buried there yet. They are still at the lab where they were confirmed after DNA testing to be the missing two Romanovs.
Thanks for this beautiful video. I hope soon they will all rest in peace together. Bozhe Tsarya Khrani!
oh my goodness. i read the book about the ramonovs deaths. and the reason that the coffins are so small, is because when the were murdered, the people hacked the bodies into small pieces, threw them into holes and poured acid all over them, resulting in very few remains of the bodies.
What a wonderful story! I am so glad the Russian Imperial Family can finally rest in peace. I think the coffins were rather small though. I know the Tsarevitch suffered from hemophilia but I wonder if they were a family of midgets.
@ anaclet - First of all the burial was eight decades after the deaths of the Tsar, the Tsarina, the Tsarevitch and the Grand Duchesses.
And their deaths were a violent one, followed by a horrible history of burial, reburial, burial, reburial, transports and fire. No wonder that there are only few remnants.
Or maybe the heirs of the impoverished Romanov family did not have enough money to buy imperial, suitable coffins for a whole family at once and they could only afford those smaller kid coffins. Who knows? It is all so sad. Well, at least they can now rest in peace!
I do not think that the size depends on the money they have the Romanovs. In addition, for which he paid all the funeral expenses was the Russian state, not the Romanovs.
I imagine that the sizes correspond to the customs of the Russian imperial family.
@ storicus - So you think it was a custom of the Russian Imperial Romanov Family to be buried in coffins smaller than the size of the deceased's body? What a strange habit! Why add more discomfort to the claustrophoic feelings one must have inside a coffin? That certainly doesn't sound very imperial and doesn't suit the Romanov's tradition of cherising huge spaces such as the Hermitage and the Kremlin.
This hymn is called "Christ the victorious" and some words are: "even at the grave our song shall be Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia"
now they are all crowned with the crown of immortality the crown of life everlasting in that place where sorror and death are no more and joy and peace reign in endless realms of light. all you who live trust in Jesus bring to your kingdom. Prince Saint Alexei pray for me at the hour of my death.
The one missing is Anastacia, The story goes that she alone survived the masacre..but so far they didn't find her. And all women who claimed to be Anastacia Nikolaevna Romanova, all died. And 1 of them really knew a lot of details that no one else could know but they never believed her :s It's a very interesting Story, but I think that we will never know the truth!
My grandmother is Russian...maybe she is the real Anastasia ;))
All the bodies have been found. A DNA test was performed on a tissue sample of Anna Anderson's intestine. That DNA sample was compared to the DNA of Prince Philip. It did not match.Anna Anderson was not Grand Duchess Anastasia.

It's either that their remains were so few they could fit into small coffins, or they were a little smaller than today's folk would be.
Rest in peace, Romanov family.

some say it was just because few remains were found, and so a big coffin would be not needed :)

Did the soviets make Russia better than before?
If the char was nicknamed "bloody Nikolai" what was the nickname for Josif Stalin?
Soviets were worthless scum who ruined Russia almost completely.
Soviets only replaced the char with a monster.

so do russians today look back at the killing of the royal family with shame, or with pride? Are the royals seen by most Russians as villians?

Ahhh No. This hymn was actually the national anthem of Imperial Russia called "God save the Tsar". Its lyrics are O God, protect the Tsar!
Strong and majestic,
Reign for glory, For our glory!
( 2× :)
Reign to foes' fear,
O Orthodox Tsar.
God, protect the Tsar!
( 2× :)

Sorry, I don't speak Russian :/
Question though, why are there only 5 coffins that they bury?
I know they found Maria at a later time...but who else is missing?
Even though I am not Russian and in no way related to these people, this was very sad to watch. May they rest in peace.
