  • Question, re: was emma Smith the founder of relief society, did she continue in this after her husband the founding Prophet died ?

  • I respect all religions, but why can't there be a balance between the 'men's roles' and the 'womans roles'?

  • can you be more specific??

  • @omiolo

Men are 'supposed' to do ceratin thing. Woman are 'supoosed' to do certain things. There is no compromise. The woman have to be home-makers and mothers. Nothing else. men support the family. Woman can't do things that men are expected to do and men can't do things that women are supposed to do.

  • women have the most immportent role in life is to take care a teach gods children how would it feel for you're wife to rear you're kids and go to work it wouldent work she would be over wealmed god hold women in ahigh standerd becuase of this

  • mormons.... lol

  • i know arent we great!!

  • women arnt equall,as you have never had a female equivlent of a bishop, they are always men.other religons have female priests, its always men on the church councils, its always men putting there hands on the babies heads at a blessing,my kids had a mormon blessing, but still had a christian christening, there mormon grandparents were there god parents at the christening, only had the blessings in lds church to keep inlaws happy, they dont bother with the kids anymore some mormans they are!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The organization of the Church follows the pattern as established by Jesus Christ when he came to the earth.

  • like an alien?

  • LOL for the record, I didn't write that, couldn't give a shit about religion, it was mi mum lol

  • Whoa! Did I see a black woman give a talk in that video? I have yet to see that happen in real life. I've never seen an African-American give a talk in general conference or even in a church meeting.

  • I'm surprised that you find that surprising. I've been to dozens of sacrament meetings where African-American men and women have given talks.

I suppose it just depends on the racial makeup of the area where you live, but it's certainly not a rarity.

  • I live in Iceland and we have people from so many different places of the world, Africa, South-America, Europe, North America, Polynesia... All children of God, all equal, all able to speak and therefore all asked to give talks every once in a while.

  • so what r u saying? we have mixed race families in our church and they talk as much as we do. they ha\ve the same rights as us.

  • wtheck.

    mormon families can have kids.

what kind of question is tht.

    where have you been living???

    hahaha

    not to b mean.

  • All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.

  • "marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children." God's plan enables families who live the gospel and receive the necessary ordinances to be together forever with Him.

  • Its a great attitude to take, having big families, especially when most of the world is predicted to have severe fresh water shortages in the coming years, and extended and more frequent droughts due to Global Climate Change. I wonder what the Mormon Church's take on these global issues are?

  • Well said, wonder if they so proud say that in the late 1800s.... thousands of years after religion actually think mmm maybe women and men are equal, its a shame i will never get to see the day when skin colour won't mean shit, that day the sun will shine brighter. why didn't muhhamad or jesus gave us a hint of the fact that we should all understand that under our clothes, turbants, robes, even under our skin we are the same? their stand in the world merely served as a dividing point.

  • "Its a great attitude to take, having big families"

somebody has to love the children of the world.

  • Mormonism cliches....semantics, catch phrases- Aint it great?

  • I wonder, how could I get a book of mormons...

  • If you go to mormon*org, you can request a free copy of the Book of Mormon.

  • mormanism is b s!!!

  • Considering that you misspell the name of the religion, I question how much serious study you have done of it to truly know whether or not there is truth here.

  • This messed up world needs more mothers. Its not about telling a woman what she can or cannot do. Its about the world needing some shaping up and the best way to do that is to start in the home, and women have the gifts and talents to raise responsible children. Like I said, this world needs more mothers. Not just women who have children, but actual mothers, the kind who take an active part in the upbringing of their kids.

  • I am hearing a whole lot of "Get back in the kitchen in this video"

  • Not "get back in the kitchen" more like if you've made a child take some responsibility and get back in their life.

  • You want to hear "get on the streets"?

  • The male voice on this video completely turns me off. It has a patriarchal tone. The fact that a women was not chosen to be the voice on this video speaks mountains.

The mormon church mobilized every ward/parish to vote against the equal rights amendment - I know, I'm ashamed to say.......I was part of the telephone tree.

  • It sounds like the type of thing when you hear someone defending something way too much because they're guilty of the opposite. Parts of this video are obviously isolated incidents (mormon women being lawyers etc...) rather than the norm. Anyone ever heard of Relief Society not teaching birth control? or keeping a baby out of wedlock? Oh the shame women must feel. Oh the guilt and the fear. Looking at the positive side only is not fair. -pending worthiness

  • Sounds like a radical mormon feminist influenced this video. As a conservative i think it should focus on how both men and women are equally influential not all this stuff about "the hand that rocks the cradle".

  • Are mormons really like this? Bc it just doesn't seem realistic. Reminds of those pictures of big, thick beautiful burgers at mcdonalds. When you get your meal it looks nothing like the picture but you eat it anyway cause you just paid 5.50 for a couple slices of bread with a combination of three different sauces, some onion sprinkles and some tiny piece of hamburger-like material that isn't even centered on the bun correctly.

  • Every family is different. I can say that my family is extremely happy!

  • no i was in a mormon family and teribly miserable. not bcus it was mormons cus the people SUCKED

  • I'm sorry you had a miserable family experience growing up.

  • This video is so touching, i'm so thankfull for being lds and for having my place as a woman in the family. I'm so blessed.

  • I think that this video is really disappointing. I really think that the idea that a woman should primarily focus on being a 'mother and caregiver' is extremely sexist and old-fashioned. What about following your dreams, and a career? What about finishing college and being able to support yourself, financially and otherwise? Maybe some women like to get married and start popping out babies as soon as they can, but that certainly doesn't appeal to me at all.

  • nakedrussian: I think that this...

I can understand how one would think like this.. however, you would then have to afix the same label on GOD.. that he is sexist and old-fashioned. After all.. he started this whole business by directing Adam and Eve to "be fruitful and multiply". As spirit children of our Heavenly Father, our duty is to him first.. and then he provides. He does not expect families to be raised in poverty or hardship. Selflessness is what the Lord teaches.Love is eternal!

  • whell ture some women want to be a mother and some dont there is nothing wrong with what you think if you dont want to be then you dont have to be do what you want

  • What if a Mormon family can't have kids?

  • What do you mean? If they can't, they can't and it is heartbreaking for them, but no one in the church looks down on them if that's what you're getting at?

  • It seems that many people look down on members who dont have kids like they committed a serious sin. It is a matter between God and them as to the reasons why.

  • They can adopt, if they can't adopt, then it's OK, God loves them just as much as any Mormon with kids. This life is not the end, if a person truly desires children and were not able to have any in this life, if they live righteously, God will bless them with children after this life. Each birth is a miracle and kids don't come easy, I know many couples who can't conceive, and many singles who haven't married and maybe never will. God love each one of you. You are welcome in his church.

  • God will bless them with children after this life....Where exactly in the Bible does it say this?

  • How can you be so heartless? Why would a loving God deny people of their hearts dearest wish?

  • sounds pretty good

  • This is such a nice overview of Mormon women... even more so than "family".

I would add that the focus in this video really highlights the role of women in the Mormon Church.

  • Good suggestion! The thought had crossed my mind but I had forgotten to actually change it.
