Woolco ads in Canada were way better than in the US. Ours had that dork singing "we want to beeeeee your favorite stooooore." No wonder they went out of business down here.
I'm from St. John's, NL. We used to have three Woolco stores. I'm now pissed that Wal-Mart has moved into the former Woolco stores at the Avalon Mall and the Village Shopping Centre (although since I moved to Ottawa, they relocated both of 'em to new big box stores, with the one at the Village having moved to Mount Pearl).
The third of these was the large one at Water St. downtown. I liked this one, with an escalator. Can you believe they had a bakery there? I miss Woolco.
Oh I am too. I was born in Toronto, Ontario and I've been to the Woolco stores at the Dufferin Mall and the one that they had in Peterborough. I think there was one in Oakville as well. They also had one in Pickering.
I'm more pissed off than you are because Woolco was quite an institution of sorts. I miss having it here because that's where I got some of the Gobots toys for my brother and me.
The Woolco store at the Dufferin mall in Toronto had a huge toy department in the basement that I affectionately referred to as the Dungeon. We took a moving stair way downstairs to the toy department with our mother. Then we picked out the toys we wanted and that was it.
I remember that commercial from ITV edmonton way back in 1988 (ahh the memories) but I don't think I've been there.

@Tenspeeder And had "Great Movies". ASN (then a sister cable channel of Citytv, now A Atlantic) in Atlantic Canada also used this format.

I never got lost in the Woolco toy department.
