Great memories I'm from Newark,NJ born and raised there. Went to Broadway Elem. and Central High. Lived in North Newark for years. I now live in SC but I do visit all my friends and family still live there.
Nicely done, my friend. The song you played with the video, The Ghetto, sung by Donny Hathaway, has a Newark connection. The song was co-written by Leroy Hutson from Newark, NJ. I have interviewed Leroy numerous times and often makes reference to the song and Newark. A great song and it fits nicely with your video montage. Leroy, Donnie and Roberta Flack went to Howard University. Leroy Hutson is a great artist in his own right --- replaced Curtis Mayfield in the Impressions. Thanks. BP

Will there be any more videos of my Brick City? I particularly yearn for pix of (Imamu) Amiri Baraka's Committee for Unified Newark, his Spirit House on Stirling Street, Nyumba Ya Ujamaa (High St). Remember when the Panthers had HQ on University Ave.? And I'd love to see pix of the F.O.I. and M.G.T. from Mosque #25. Bro. Garrison used to bring my "Muhammad Speaks like clockwork every Sunday!
@wrazzaq Oh yeah. Born and raised. Charlton Street School, 7th Ave Jr High then Central High. Lived in the Central ward. I just watched this again and it's a real personal thing to watch. Props.
@MrVeeBlog . . My brother went to Charlton and Central - A cousin (Mr Hampton) became principal.) You should see the New Central (on 18th Ave ) , private practice field nest to school, olympic size pool , a second football field directly across the street from the school. The school actually looks like a mall once you enter.
