I was looking around here for a version I heard of this song on the show "Las Vegas", just now when I happily came across this! Fantastic! I love the Leningrad Cowboys and their whole group more than did this song justice. It was a joy to see and hear. :D
I've watched and listened to this a dozen times now.
It is literally awesome--it inspires awe. The balalaika is just beautiful, and the mass of tenors througout , and those crescendos from all sections of the choir-- fabulous! It touches one's very soul.
I clicked on this out of curiosity, intrugued by teh idea of "Leningrad Cowboys and The Red Army Choir. I had heard a truly awful version of Dylan singing it live.
This is amazing, beautiful. Straight into my "rumba " playlist, and as soon as I get a gal up here to my pad, we'll be dancing to it.
Brilliant post, thanks. Thumbs up to WHOOTY1216's comment, I was British Para in the Cold War. It's better to sing and dance.
"Evil", I suppose, is in the mind of the beholder. To Rappin' Ron Reagan, it was the Soviet Union. To Boston Baseball Buffs, it is indeed the NY Yankees. For some of us it is the McMansion, stock accounts, and infinite alimony that our ex-wife got. And so as not to be sexist, to some ex-wives it is the harem that their husbands accumulated "on the side" during marriage.
Wow. Beautiful and inspiring. Music brings us together. I just hope Lenin and Stalin can see this performance -- and that it makes them roll in their stinking graves.
@ChicagoLogoDesign I doubt that either of them are knocking on heaven's door. Although they didn't believe in any afterlife, I suspect that they are in a rather hot, nasty place, properly enchained next to the likes of guys named Heinrich and Adolf.
Like the young men persuaded by Yeltsin as he climbed on the tank said, "No, we're not going back to the arms of Gennady Yanayev", these men are looking forward. Between Yeltsin and Putin, the banksters of London and New York took the Russian people for their life savings. Now, they're doing it to western countries, one after another. This clip is a testament to the question, "who really are our brothers and sisters?" It's time for all the world to move beyond feudalism once and for all.
This IS great - only on YouTube!!! You guys are right - amazing that the "Evil Empire" produced such an incredibly moving rendition of a classic American song by one of our most eclectic writers (Bob Dylan) that featured in a movie starring a very-left Rhodes Scholar and U.S. Army volunteer (who was offered a professorship at West Point at age 29) Kris Kristofferson. Which version is better - this, Dylan, U2, or Guns & Roses?
Beautiful..As I served in the US Army, the Russians were my enemy, I dont see my enemy here,Just men, singing a song that I imagine envokes the same feelings in them as it does me.
@jWH00TY1216 well this is a good step in realizing how stupid you were. I mean this guys are musicians, the tension used to be political, and even in the cold war, there wasn't real fighting between the US and Russia. So just enjoy the good music, and stop being so shortsighted.
One of the strangest and best versions I've ever heard of this song. Max said right, if we can build a space station together and sing this song like this lets just all get along.
Congrats to the Red Army and Everyone involved. More events such as these among more different people across the world would be nice. Get involved China, India, and the Muslim world.
Awesome song!!! My band was just doing a cover of Knocking On Heavens Door the other day and do check us out! we hope you'd have as much fun listening to it as we had jamming it.
I really miss to see these guys plus choir on stage again, but i kinda understand. A member of the band was interviewed about why not to take a tour. He told that it is a good idea but also depends on money. If they get to buses and stop at a service station to buy a pack of Marlboro for each man, only that would cost about 2500 Finnish marks:)
The Leningrad Cowboys! Great flick! The Sisters of Mercy would have loved them . I got my tittle girl back from the lesbian ex, this weekend, so I'm off-line, babies!!!!
the beauty of music is that it does not have boundries, its universal, its love, it is peace, it is something so special and wonderful, unfortunatly what ever it is, there is not to much of that left in our world !!!
Damn, it's stuff like this that makes YouTube great. This stuff is pure proof that reality is truly stranger than fiction. Nobody would EVER think this stuff up. Love it. God Bless Bob Dylan.
So good, the collaboration of the great Red Army Choir and these ....this, interesting group of pros. Freaking great! Love the Sweet Home Alabama finish as well.
first time i hear this guys im sold so koool so unique gonna grow my hair like them , russia has talent oh yeaaaa and im a guy that saw hendrex and joplin in person way bck in the day i appreciate talent !!!!!!!
thegigm.....Thanks for your comment,...( I can just picture it now! )... and I also thank you for your support! May the Leningrad Cowboys come to America, and go on to greater success...and without those audience annoying flag waving idiots! Do I hear a second on that motion?
What do these concert idiots "Get Off" by waving those damn annoying flags? Don't they have a clue on how distracting this is for others? Where was security?...They should have never allowed it! In my opinion, those flag wavers..(.especially the idiot waving the one with the "heart" on it.)..ruined this performance and those who were trying to save it on video. I would bne tempted to jam their flagpoles up their collective asses, like a sish-ka-bob, and carry them outside! Dylan would enjoy!
@juicersxlovesxyou People could do a ton of things better if the politicians weren't f****ing things up just to stir up emotions and stupidity so they can get re-elected. If we got rid of the whole "political class" (which they are, of either party) we'd be MUCH better off. This version does show the universality of music, human emotion, brotherhood, and mortality.
J'aurais aimé assister à ce concert , c'est suréaliste !!!! Un chef d'oeuvre d'humour d'une rare qualité ... je suis sûr que Dylan aime aussi , enfin une reprise digne de l'original...
I remember this concert from my teen years, I'm Finnish. It was like a beginning of a new era between our country and Russia. And these people made some unforgettable and great music in the process. Thank you Leningrad Cowboys, thank you even more Red Army Choir. May the peace between our countries last in the spirit of this concert.
