  • I was looking around here for a version I heard of this song on the show "Las Vegas", just now when I happily came across this! Fantastic! I love the Leningrad Cowboys and their whole group more than did this song justice. It was a joy to see and hear. :D

  • 140% epic!

  • Watching this is like falling into some bizarro world. Oh,and the haircuts just scare the fuck out of me.

  • PEACE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Russia showed so much promise during those first few heady years of freedom. Its truly a shame to watch Putin drag the curtain closed again.

  • watch my awesome cover of this song :D

  • How does their hair stay like that?!

  • I've watched and listened to this a dozen times now.

It is literally awesome--it inspires awe. The balalaika is just beautiful, and the mass of tenors througout , and those crescendos from all sections of the choir-- fabulous! It touches one's very soul.

  • I clicked on this out of curiosity, intrugued by teh idea of "Leningrad Cowboys and The Red Army Choir. I had heard a truly awful version of Dylan singing it live.

This is amazing, beautiful. Straight into my "rumba " playlist, and as soon as I get a gal up here to my pad, we'll be dancing to it.

Brilliant post, thanks. Thumbs up to WHOOTY1216's comment, I was British Para in the Cold War. It's better to sing and dance.

  • "Evil", I suppose, is in the mind of the beholder. To Rappin' Ron Reagan, it was the Soviet Union. To Boston Baseball Buffs, it is indeed the NY Yankees. For some of us it is the McMansion, stock accounts, and infinite alimony that our ex-wife got. And so as not to be sexist, to some ex-wives it is the harem that their husbands accumulated "on the side" during marriage.

  • Wow. Beautiful and inspiring. Music brings us together. I just hope Lenin and Stalin can see this performance -- and that it makes them roll in their stinking graves.

  • @ChicagoLogoDesign I doubt that either of them are knocking on heaven's door. Although they didn't believe in any afterlife, I suspect that they are in a rather hot, nasty place, properly enchained next to the likes of guys named Heinrich and Adolf.

  • @jking1737 LOL, I suspect you're right about Lenin and Stalin being in a "hot, nasty place" with Himmler and Hitler.

  • Like the young men persuaded by Yeltsin as he climbed on the tank said, "No, we're not going back to the arms of Gennady Yanayev", these men are looking forward. Between Yeltsin and Putin, the banksters of London and New York took the Russian people for their life savings. Now, they're doing it to western countries, one after another. This clip is a testament to the question, "who really are our brothers and sisters?" It's time for all the world to move beyond feudalism once and for all.

  • So beautiful!

  • This IS great - only on YouTube!!! You guys are right - amazing that the "Evil Empire" produced such an incredibly moving rendition of a classic American song by one of our most eclectic writers (Bob Dylan) that featured in a movie starring a very-left Rhodes Scholar and U.S. Army volunteer (who was offered a professorship at West Point at age 29) Kris Kristofferson. Which version is better - this, Dylan, U2, or Guns & Roses?

  • @jking1737 Wait a minute. I thought the Evil Empire was the New York Yankees.

  • Beautiful..As I served in the US Army, the Russians were my enemy, I dont see my enemy here,Just men, singing a song that I imagine envokes the same feelings in them as it does me.

  • @jWH00TY1216 well this is a good step in realizing how stupid you were. I mean this guys are musicians, the tension used to be political, and even in the cold war, there wasn't real fighting between the US and Russia. So just enjoy the good music, and stop being so shortsighted.

  • Best version I found so far

  • version guns n roses

  • for years this has been my fav version of the song. the hair's a scream but the music is rock solid! love it love it love it

  • One of the strangest and best versions I've ever heard of this song. Max said right, if we can build a space station together and sing this song like this lets just all get along.

  • this is soo awesome! outstanding!!!

  • A rock band that includes bassoons. How awesome is that.

  • Havent seen this since I was 6 years old! I love youtube! ive been looking for this forever!

  • This is from the year 1993.

  • Incroyable venant de l'armée Russe. Les bananes des musiciens avec les médailles de guerre, c'est bon pour la démocratie:

  • AQUI ESTAN LAS BOTAS NICE DE SAN LUIS ....

  • Awesome xD

    AWESOME!

     GORGEOUS ... FREEDOM!

    <3

  • Perestroika for the common man......

  • Congrats to the Red Army and Everyone involved. More events such as these among more different people across the world would be nice. Get involved China, India, and the Muslim world.

  • GROSSARTIG

  • I just really hope that this wasn't all the rock music these poor people had to listen to...

  • @joshmarcinik, obviously by making that comment you are a dullard.

  • @Softrockman Obviously, someone's sarcasm detector suffered a massive failure.

  • Thank you.

After a bad day, out of a bad month, from a bad decade and a dark life - this was a ray of sunshine, pehaps even a day at the beach! :D

  • und wer sacht, dass Achsel Rose das Ding besser bringt?

  • All should be able to enjoy this one, no matter where they where born by whom & when! Anyone whant to send some cd´s to Jerusalem?

  • Must use this to end Yom Kippur N'ilah next year.

  • Must include this on Yom Kippur next year.

  • חזק!

  • q hermosooo!!

que union hacen los leningrad y el coro genial =D

  • zieh ich mir immer wieder rein, geil.......besser wie das original.

  • Bob Dylan is the king :-)

  • I really miss to see these guys plus choir on stage again, but i kinda understand. A member of the band was interviewed about why not to take a tour. He told that it is a good idea but also depends on money. If they get to buses and stop at a service station to buy a pack of Marlboro for each man, only that would cost about 2500 Finnish marks:)

  • Only one problem, bad hair style.

  • There IS hope for humanity!

  • You said it MAXDAVID40!!!!

  • This is one of the most surreal and beautiful things I have ever seen.

  • Leningrad Cowboys and Red Russian Army Choir

  • The Leningrad Cowboys! Great flick! The Sisters of Mercy would have loved them . I got my tittle girl back from the lesbian ex, this weekend, so I'm off-line, babies!!!!

  • errrrrrrrh?

  • Wonderful.. great respect for quality and Russian power conferred on this song....congratulations!!!!

чудесный! Великий отношении качества и мощи России, возложенных на эту песню .... Поздравляем!

  • the beauty of music is that it does not have boundries, its universal, its love, it is peace, it is something so special and wonderful, unfortunatly what ever it is, there is not to much of that left in our world !!!

  • Best Leningrad Cowboys- lineup ever !!

  • we the people can transend politics, race, religion, creed, nationality by embracing, this is the finest example.

  • Damn, it's stuff like this that makes YouTube great. This stuff is pure proof that reality is truly stranger than fiction. Nobody would EVER think this stuff up. Love it. God Bless Bob Dylan.

  • @MrSpiritCoach Amen brother.

  • @MrSpiritCoach

    Well said

  • let eat bee

  • its like monty pythons did it. Hilarious

  • So good, the collaboration of the great Red Army Choir and these ....this, interesting group of pros. Freaking great! Love the Sweet Home Alabama finish as well.

  • first time i hear this guys im sold so koool so unique gonna grow my hair like them , russia has talent oh yeaaaa and im a guy that saw hendrex and joplin in person way bck in the day i appreciate talent !!!!!!!

  • Those guys with the hair are finnish.

  • @Pyryp2 If true, totally cool

  • Are they bring those backup singers?

  • thegigm.....Thanks for your comment,...( I can just picture it now! )... and I also thank you for your support! May the Leningrad Cowboys come to America, and go on to greater success...and without those audience annoying flag waving idiots! Do I hear a second on that motion?

  • What do these concert idiots "Get Off" by waving those damn annoying flags? Don't they have a clue on how distracting this is for others? Where was security?...They should have never allowed it! In my opinion, those flag wavers..(.especially the idiot waving the one with the "heart" on it.)..ruined this performance and those who were trying to save it on video. I would bne tempted to jam their flagpoles up their collective asses, like a sish-ka-bob, and carry them outside! Dylan would enjoy!

  • a nice "spit roast" made from the flags + there asses all in a line, where ones mouth ended anouthers ass begings)

  • Brilliant!

  • takodje poz iz srb JAKO MOCNO

  • Proprio splendido!

    Превъзходно!

  • Браво Руска браћо!!!! Поздрав из Србије!!!

  • I think their hair styles were inspired by Jim Carey.

  • oh my god this is sooo fuckin good

  • Best !!!

  • if bob dylan's version (my fav) is 10/10, then this is probably 9.999999999999/10 (basically, they're just as good)

  • And 5 stars just ain't enough for this version of the song. Simply amazing!

  • well, Leningrad Cowboys had way more people on stage singing this than Axl had few years back :D

  • gun´s´roses... who is that? :D the original version of bob dylan is the best ;)

    than comes leningrad cowboys!!

  • Although Axl did have at least as many guitar players on Chinese Democracy as people on stage.

  • lol true. too bad one of them wasn't slash =/

  • If a Finnish Rock group can get together with a Russian choir to rock out to a song by an American folk singer, can't we all find a way to get along.

  • @maxdavid84 Can't we all just get along?

  • @maxdavid84

    Yeah man!

  • @maxdavid84 Well said dude, well said.

  • having been there and here, yes "the people" can get along between countries pretty darn good, but only if you keep the politicians out of it !!!

  • @juicersxlovesxyou People could do a ton of things better if the politicians weren't f****ing things up just to stir up emotions and stupidity so they can get re-elected. If we got rid of the whole "political class" (which they are, of either party) we'd be MUCH better off. This version does show the universality of music, human emotion, brotherhood, and mortality.

  • @maxdavid84 AMEN

  • Luxus :-*

  • Brilliant... In my lifetime unimagineable...

  • Отлично! Great cover...thanks :-)

  • This really rocks. Great interpretation. Awsome job!

  • el mejor cover q escuche, este grupo y este coro son increibles todos los temas los hacen espectaculares

  • really inpressive. awesome cover!!

    thanks very much.

  • Super!

  • realy great cover thanks! let it be peace!

  • Это где играли?

  • Incredible Leningrad Cowboys...For ever in my heart. Peace and love to Finland from Italy.

  • Une chanson pacifique de Bob Dylan chantée par l armee rouge.Excellent, l une des meilleures version. Merci.

  • Dmitriy27 ... I am still hunting your ass. You can run but you can't hide. Barack, heh heh heh

  • Very good too on full screen ,especially at 1:56 ,worth making a pause...

  • J'aurais aimé assister à ce concert , c'est suréaliste !!!! Un chef d'oeuvre d'humour d'une rare qualité ... je suis sûr que Dylan aime aussi , enfin une reprise digne de l'original...

  • I remember this concert from my teen years, I'm Finnish. It was like a beginning of a new era between our country and Russia. And these people made some unforgettable and great music in the process. Thank you Leningrad Cowboys, thank you even more Red Army Choir. May the peace between our countries last in the spirit of this concert.

  • this has got to be the best thing i have ever seen

  • I think this was 1993 in Helsinki, Finland

  • their hair is a bit too much.

    other wise 5/5

  • well done, I wish id been there

  • This song has never been more epic. Truly one of those concerts I wish I'd seen.

  • absolutely beautiful .. well done Russia!

  • .. and Finland. Leningrad Cowboys is a Finnish band :)

  • amazing! all I need to say

  • MY GOD!..Better than Dylan himself, yet TRUE to his style! Best version EVER! The musical arrangement is absolutely phenominal!,and done with sincereity! GREAT entertainers!

  • Aren't you glad that it wasn't the Chinese 3 octaves off and mispronouncing every 3rd word?

  • glasnost

What could be more unlikely? The cold war is dead, the Red Army Choir in one huge sing-a-long to America cultural icon, Bob Dylan. This may not be the best rendition of the master's work, but it scores 10 out of 10 for glasnost, 3 cheers to Mikhail Gorbachev.

  • Someone once said reality is stranger than fiction - I'm just glad the world is the way it is now. Remember the Kid & the Sheriff - a tragegy that seemed inevitable.

  • MOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRR

  • Coool

  • yak sha mash . . . there is nothing ridicilous about the Leningrad Cowboys!

  • Awesome, Dylan would be proud, one of the most powerful versions of this song. If only the Leningrad Cowboys themselves weren't so ridicilous.

  • Ridiculous??? Are you kidding. This is the way the Finnish nation survived and Finland became independent....a bit like the fictional soldier Svejk.

  • You're that whiny guy right? If I had written a song that every body wanted to imitate, I think I would count it a success.

  • A little-known fact: The guitarist to the vocalist's left is a young Bob Dylan in Leningrad Cowboys disguise. He didn't even have to do anything with his hair.

  • Hello my videos are cool as well. Check them out if you want, they may interest you. Cheers Soldatypravdy

  • jak na Ruskich to nawet, nawet... :)

  • Leningrad Cowboys pochodzą z finlandii a nie od ruskich...
