i always thought dave was a great fit with the chili's.. he brought a different guitar sound to the chili's.. the funk was still there but the guitar textures were fuller and more opened up... i terms of guitar vocabulary and sound i always liked dave better than john.. but as an artist and songwriter i think john has a heads up

i hate it when people say that navarro's playing style didnt fit with the peppers because he was too metal..when if you listen to licks like the outtro here and give it away from woodstock, they're beautiful.

navarro brought an interesting dynamic to the band with his playing style, and in the end i'm glad frusciante is back...but i'm also glad they had the opportunity to play with dave.

Dave is a great guitarist, for sure, but his playing is more 'metal' than Frusciante's..would fit perfect with Jane's addiction, but not with the Chilis..We have to admitt that the soul of the band is frusciante!

Oh, I wasn't saying he added the actual solo. I was saying he added TO it, meaning I liked the twist he put on it. The first solo at about 2:50 was pretty close to the original, but the second solo at 3:28 was decidedly different, and I actually like it as opposed to other times Navarro altered a Frusciante song to fit his own flair.

He joined in late 1988 after Hillel Slovak passed away from a heroin overdose. He stayed in the band until 1992 and left because he was unhappy with the band's sudden success. During which, he released two solo albums and began addicted to drugs. He became clean in 1998 and rejoined the band.
