They are Legends. Robin speaks from his own BeeGees experience - so I respect that . Besides, the Gibbs are NEVER known for arrogance. They don't have to - because they are the BEST . I open YouTube - only to watch clips of them. Nothing more.
I believe it was Babe Ruth who said - "It ain't boasting if you have something to back it up". So if anyone thinks Robin Gibb is boasting just look at what he and his brothers have accomplished these last 45 years. He has every right to boast and let this generation know what the Bee Gees have done.
Boast much, Robin? Maybe you should turn off your radio and tv and go listen to all the amazing music being created performed all over the world. Go to some of the clubs in London for a start. Popular music is better than ever. You just won't find it in the mass market anymore.
not all bands would be like bee gees. I mean the bee gee model is unique to the extent that it is very difficult to be replicated again. don't be harsh over recent bands. However, I agree that today music is riubbish, even the 1990s were much better than today
What A GREAT Interview..Thank you for Sharing..I got my tickets Today1/26/2012 to see BARRY GIBB in concert 2/21/2012..Cant Wait...Beegees FOREVER!!!!
@714lmfao Hardrock in South Florida..Barry still lives in Miami so we think this is THE ONLY Show he is going to do..There are no ther dates thus far..
DAMN RIGHT!!!! its so true!! I'm a musician myself and I can't stand those tossers who have no talent or skills! and they are all focused on looking pretty and doing karaoke!! they can't stay afloat without the likes of Simon Cowell!! local bands/musicians will always keep going! they don't need a big greedy company to carry them
I think if you look at the BeeGees catalog, read their history online, their music remained at #1, with big hit after big hit, #1 record after #1 record through the 70's. Even after the music industry all but "banned" them from the spotlight in the early 80's, they continued to write/compose songs for other artists which also ironically went to #1. THAT is the sign of truly amazing and gifted artists. They might actually be the greatest single band since music was first recorded.
Spot on, Robin. Truth is always heard loud and clear. The music industry does now suck! Thanks heavens for the good stuff from back then. Every time I hear about X factor, I just want to scream.
I find this very interesting cuz this is Xactly how I feel about the music industry 2day. Whether it b Pop, Rock or Country, the whole music industry itself sucks. BIG X!
Its okay Robin, Its the strong artists like Yourself hat have to keep the young artists strong and confident, in fact....comr to think of it, Its Thee Gees that keep me going strong in a world like it is to this day, "hANDS aCROSS tHE wATER...i KNOW THATS bEATLES bUT...hANDS ACROSS THE sKY...NAWWWW...let all just keep an open mind sync...lets Vibrate to a higher wave .silence is storng willpower...Mind over matter..."Think Alike...ROCK ON!!"
@KailynK7 sorry, i am a master genius of typos...sorry...lol...its because I type on the floor and dont often look at the monitor.....or thekaybord...too busyreading a book...will cleaning up the corruption...just not for myself.....i know..I'm.LAME..
Smiles......Why on earth would the Bee Gees want to correct perfection with something that rectifies imperfection such as an Auto-tune...The Bee Gees are globally the supreme masters of harmony. Entirely agree with Robin Gibb on all areas.....The more I listen to Robin Gibb the more I get that confident feel that Robin is a genius......He has that special spark....Just like John Lennon exhibited in the Beatles......I shall need to look at this artist more thoroughly than I have already done.
I coukd not agree more with Robin's contention. If you wish to hear real music today, the only allternatives are indy music. Definitely not what you see on television or heavily promoted on top 40 radio.
Robin is so articulate and obviously highly intelligent. And he is speaking the truth. Music today is producing products rather than talent, with only very few exeptions. Young artists dress like hookers ( if they're girls) or gansgsters (if they're boys) and music videos are all raunch and sex. Ad nauseum. Take away their autotune and dubbing, and most would sing out of tune at least. In the Gibbs day, as Robin said, you had to perform live with talent only
@reallyrolly Agreed, I like to call these so called new pop-stars 'Talentless Clones" with no real musical ability. That is why I appreciate bands with instruments, you can see them playing the drums or the bass or the guitar.
I am not the biggest Bee Gee fan but he is speaking the truth. Im 32 and have seen the music industry decline to a machine of "THEM" deciding what is big and the general public are thick as shit.
Artists like Robin Thicke, J Holiday , Joe there are loads. These are great act's and song writers. They are pushed aside on a global scale as they do "NOT" fit what the pricks at the top want.
People are sheep now and that is only getting worse. X Factor etc = Poison.
WHY DO the good and talented and lovely people ALWAYS have to get sick and be taken from us when ASSHOLES like the artists nowadays sail by scot free.....?? I soo want Robin to get well again...
Bee Gee is an abbreviation for Brothers Gibb..the Gibb Brothers..B. G. They added the ee to the Initials to give their group a name. 2 Brothers are alive. Robin, in this video, has liver cancer. I am very saddened by this. I pray he can be cured by stem cells or a liver transplant. I don't want him to die. Barry will be the only brother left, if Robin were to pass away too like his twin Mo and baby bro Andy..too sad.
We are going through another dark-ages for music. Media/market currently places emphasis on image. While image should not even have 1% importance, it is currently 90% important.
Eventually, music will resurface for musics own sake
yeah who ever titled this former "Bee Gee" should go and get their facts straight, its like calling Angus Young former ACDC, just isn`t true at all, having a blond moment are we jopublica? dont have boath oars in the water? 5 cans shy of a 6 pack? backasswards in coming forwards? this idiot would be flat out trying to get laid in a brothel with a fist full of 50`s.
I so couldn't agree with him more. Because know a days people don't EARN what they get in pop fame. They post a video on youtube, get famous, WOOPDY DOO. I mean no that is not now, now you don't have to sing live, you don't have to write your own music, and the most important YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SING. That is just a bunch of bull shiz.
WOW!! FINALLY SOMEONE HAS THE BALLS TO SPEAK THE TRUTH...I COULDENT AGREE WITH YOU MORE ROBIN!!! I CANT IMAGINE BEING ROBIN GIBB TURNING ON THE TV AND SEEN SOMEONE LIKE BIEBER OR GAGA OR ANY OF THAT MODERN SHIT "SING"......I WOULDENT KNOW WEATHER TO LAUPGH OR CRY
I agree with Robin 100%. What made The Bee Gees & other groups & artists so great is that they were distinctive. They were influenced by other people, but in the end they sound like themselves. The problem with today's musicians & artists is that they don't have a sound. Everybody sounds the same as everyone else. Put 10 hip-hop or rap songs on & I can't tell the difference. But I can tell the difference between The Bee Gees & The Beatles & Pink Floyd & The Rolling Stones.
BINGO! This is so true. I couldn't have said it better. Music companies and producers need to find different 'sounds' out there and give them a try in the mainstream. The public at large would gush about it. The last time there was a flood of new, distinctive music was in the mid/late 90's. After that period, just about everything on the radio is pretty repetitive.
My Top 10 singers are: 1) Marty Stuart & his Fabulous Superlatives 2) Johnny Cash 3) John Denver 4) Bee Gees 5) Hayseed Dixie 6) Rammstein 7) Metallica 8) Pete Seeger 9) Bob Dylan 10) Woody Guthrie (plus others) Reason: they were/are all TRUE musicians :)
If I could choose between going to a Fashion Show with Rihanna and going to my local folk club with Marty Stuart & his Fabulous Superlatives, I would go for the latter option, cause I would take Marty and the gang over Rihanna any day of the week, and, when I saw Marty in January, it was the best gig of my entire life (hence my YouTube name), and I got to meet them (Marty had the gang with him) and they were the nicest bunch of guys that I've ever met.
As Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden said, tv talent shows are appalling, and create something that's manufactured which dedicated followers consider to be "true music", but it aint, and that's that, and I don't regret turning to country but being raised on metal, cause those are the genres that I prefer to listen to.
Talent , hardwork & fun . You have to want it & work to make it , no one can just give it to you . There is no one willing to work to get anywhere , everyone wants it now . The Bee Gees worked so hard to get where they are & didn't get all the credit they deserved . The Bee Gees are the best song writers & singers of all time .
@chew19bacca Agreed 100% We live in an "instant" culture today where we want everything now including music. You've got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues as Ringo once sang. "American Idol" is a joke. Why not make a reality show for picking the President while we're at it? You'll never find a great band or singer over the long-term on a reality show any more than you'll find the bachelor or bachelorette of your dreams.
Same thoughts with Mr. Robin Gibb! The music industry today doesn't produce legends like the Beatles or the Rolling Stones or the Bee Gees anymore. Take me back to the 60's and 70's where the music was just awesomely inspiring.
