This sim really should ship with pre-printed checklists and manuals. Even is you knew the procedures by heart, going through the checklists is something a good pilot does regardless.
can you just map all those in order on the 1-0 keys and the q-p so you could just run your finger across it and be done in a couple seconds? life would be so much easier...
Im not trying to a be a whiny faggot on this, but can anybody help me. I know how to move the camera in the aircraft cockpit (by using num pad numbers) but the movements are too quick and judderey. I expected to be able to move around by using my mouse, but it appears that i am unable to do so. Is there any way i can look around by using my mouse or any other methods you could suggest? Any help at all would be appreciated! :)
@angusyoungssg Hey do you use a joystick? We use the little thumb analog on the joystick. If you don't have a joystick then the only method I know is with the number keypads. There are different ways to use them as well. Hold R cntrl+Rshift+ a number and it will give you a different movement and a different view. If you don't have a joystick then knowing Auto Pilot is even more Key. Turn auto pilot on and off with A. You can change the AP settings. below the throttle.
@DaZeBoYy OHhh? You should be proud to say your Academy's name. Why are you avoiding the question? You do not know me, boy. I'm extremely satisfied in life.
@robocong7420 Go to the editor, create a plane at any airport on the map and set the pilot to PLAYER, set the initial waypoint to start at ramp. You will spawn in an 'cold' craft when you test the mission, setting the point to start at runway will spawn you in a craft that is already started up and running. Don't forget to give yourself some weapons too using the payload button on the right side with your unit selected in the editor. Finally, setup some enemy units to hunt down. GL.
@LogicShadow You bet. I spent hours on the second training just to be able to roll on the landing pist without crashing in a house. Good luck to find the right keys. It's far to be a game. 100% simulator.
Can someone please tell me how to reset the controls to default, i.e. map all the keyboard keys to their default function? I mapped spacebar to pause without thinking that it would make training impossible, since i cannot press the spacebar to continue, because pressing the spacebar now just pauses the game. And I cannot figure out what the spacebar key used to be mapped to before I messed with it. Thanks...
@robocong7420 I haven't played this but if you managed to change pause to the space bar couldn't you change pause to something else such as an un-used button id think it would reset space OH just properly read your comment nvm :]
@Dominik520520 dude seriously, trackir is the least thing you would NEED. But you NEED a joystick to fly properly, it is possible with a keyboard. But no -.-
During start up when he did the lamp test to check warning systems, what is the point of that, is it because during gameplay the game AI may throw a random fault into the plane and if you were to impatient to do a full check at the start it can come back to bit you, or is all just for show?
@theaveragejoe32 Because this game is designed to provide an ultra realistic simulation of operation of an A-10. Basically if you played this game lonng enough you could probably fly an A-10 in reallife.
@HarryHiII This one doesn't install any drivers (which were causing all the problems), they only used that for DVD verification. A-10 didn't even need admin rights to activate.
@MajorBiscuits LOL... You from Reddit? :D no but seriously, most Linuxes don't even require you to install any drivers except your graphics card.... I just installed Linux Mint yesterday and it works right out of the box, just start Firefox and go to youtube etc..
Wow the level of detail on these simulators is amazing!
The question I have is: as a flight sim mid-range newbie (I have experience with sims, but I've been out of the loop for some time now) - is there are quick start option? I seriously hope I don't have to sit there every mission for ten minutes or more just to get in the air. I can't imagine doing all that only to get shot down and have to start all over again. lol
@gnomechomskylives In DCS: Black Shark you could use the "cheat combination key" to let the game automaticly start up. What this means that switches and buttons get flipped and pushed by themselves.
If you buy the game it should be under controls in the drop down menu "cheat" or something. Again this is talking about Black Shark.
After that I guess you would have to taxi to the runway, but not sure about that.
@gnomechomskylives yep you can customize the difficulty from "Game" through to "Simulation" as you see fit, and there is a cheat option for a 1 or 2 button quick start if you dont want to go through the startup yourself :]. awesome game btw, bought it and loving it
@LambOfNile Awesome. I love the A-10, such a bad-ass vehicle. I'm hoping I can save up enough money to get myself a decent HOTAS system; I'd love to play this and Lock On Platinum oh and DCS: Blackhawk :D
If F-22 is in that free simulator then its no where near as realistic as DCS.DCS has everything the real A-10C has and lower simulation detail of zillions of other aircraft and vehicles to give it a real enviroment.
Is the voiceover for this human, or computer generated? I know there are some scarily convincing voice simulators out there now that have none of the "Steven hawking" thing going on, and unless someone told you, you wouldnt know - but there tends to be some little give-aways especially when it tackles acronyms. The voice-over here has a few little suspect bits - so is it a real dude, or a computer?
If you guys could make the same thing for lets say an F22 raptor..... that would be like THE BEST GAME EVER (!!!!...) but that will probably never happen because usa military would never actually give detailed info about an F22 :[ ..................
@takhs7 CHeck out FreeFalcon. F-14/15/16/18/22 and much much more planes modeled accurately. You have all the switchology and functionality present. F22 is a pleasure to fly and really dominates. I can't really say enough about FF. Try it
@takhs7 No offense taken. By quality you probably mean graphics. Yes, Freefalcon is DX6 or 7 and it has limitations (although if you watch some videos you'll find it's quite beautiful). But otherwise it's a fully functional sim which in my opinion is unique in aspect of dynamic campaign, realism and other features. Plus it's free and developed with love to combat flight sims and not a striving to make a buck.
@ikagagnidze well graphics is the most "obvious" advantage but i did not mean only that by saying "quality".. i mean.. flight dynamics, avionics, weapon systems, controls, sound effects etc etc are much much more realistic and generally i find it a lot more interesting.. but don't get me wrong.. freefalcon is pretty darn awesome for a free simulator
So, are they going to animate the Crew Chiefs for the Final Release? Because, I'd rather see proper ground crew like that instead of a superfluous fuel truck and armed sentry that close to the aircraft. Neither of those figure in during real operations. Security Forces are farther away, if within sight, and the refuelers have cleared-out long before. You'll need the chiefs to get visual feedback your FC surfaces all work during your FC stick-n-rudder-pedal tests, for one thing.
I almost cried when I saw 59.99$ on the website. I would torrent it but I want to support DCS and the team, Guess I'll just have to start saving my pennies. THe graphics and everything are simply amazing!!
@shadowblade145 If you haven't purchased it yet, Direct2Drive is selling it and they currently have 20 percent of all games with the coupon code "hangover" - which brings the price down a bit :)
Quick question, If i want to get this game do i need the lomac cd or can i download this off the site this looks like a game i will most definatley enjoy
@deathgod646 You don't need lomac as far as I know. You can buy it currently but it is still in beta. The final version will be available via updates to those who bought the beta, which should be soon.
OMG i just found this today! ive been playing black shark for about 6 days now and love to manualy turn every thing on and all that epicness...NOW I CAN DO IT ON MY #1 PLANE
Fantastic tutorial,do you know if a similar tutorial is available for the Iris A10 Warthog, because i find the manual complicated,as do other simmers. Can i pay you to make one.
@Daare111 it's a simulator, not a game ;) anyway.. this sim comes with arcade mode, but i think you atleast need a game pad for it.. i haven't tested the arcade mode though, so i cant say for sure
On my version, the soldier is standing right behind the right engine (funny to see when it fires up) and the fuel truck is pressed up against the left wing... weeird
@commandosolo2009 This Beta versions are ment for people who are familiar with Lock On and/or DCS:Ka-50 to find bugs faster then now ;) If you don't want to pay, wait for a official demo version ;)
@commandosolo2009 no when you pre purchase it, you'll get an access to the beta version. when the sim is released, the beta will be updated to full version with a patch
Beta is out and game is available for pre purchase at the DCS website. Upon purchase you get the beta then once full retail releases you can download full version.
I agree with @chp101, this startup is painfully bad compared with Matt's, the wireframe boxes ruin the cockpit, they obscure the controls and make it harder to visualize them when assistance is disabled. They would be better solid and transparent, a faint glow over the control. The commentary could also be shortened and spoken smoother and faster.
I remember booting to DOS to fly "Flanker 1.1" after I got hooked by "virtual skies" of A-10Cuba! (first true love, could not sleep without a flight!).
It was hard.. too realistic for me for the first time. But soon I got back to Flanker1.5 under Win95 (with online coop/dogfight experience).
Then came Flanker2.0.. 2.5, LockOn, it was getting better, but still I did not love it. With DCS series, they are pushing really hard. And A-10C is a "child" of two of my first and only "true love" sims!
@chp101 I don't know about you man, but in a tutorial, without having any prior knowledge to where things are, I like having stuff pointed out to me, and with the high amount of buttons, having something in a square is pretty much the optimal way to go in my opinion
I remember buying Lock On years ago as my first real sim. One of the BEST things about it, were the tutorials, because they made flying a lot easier for a compelte newbie. Since then I have bought everything the good people at Eagle Dynamics have put out and have loved every single one of their creations (loving the Black Shark, can't wait to get my hands on the Warthog) and the tutorials have made it a pleasant experience every single time. Thank You ED!
PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THESE GAMES. I WILL BUY EVERY SINGLE ONE! You guys are honestly phenomenal, and are making my wildest dreams come true with your PHENOMENAL DCS sims. KEEP IT UP!
Really like how you highlight the switches. It's very aesthetic. I also like how the narrator also gives some background on the process taking place under the plane's skin as well.
What I'd like to see in these sims is a multiplayer radio function, ie whoever's talking is actually coming in over the onboard radio on the proper channels with the appropriate sound filters, how awesome would that be.
Thanks Wags, excellent work, thanks Eagle Dynamics. I do not find time to acquire this spectacular simulator, incidentally also buy a new computer software to fly this ... jajajaj
This is amaizing, this tutorials are not only interactive but much more informative than those seen in DCS Black Shark, wich they were already good. I learned the basics on flying Black Shark with ZERO knowlege about helicopters just by using the ingame tutorials. Now with this new kind of tutorials learning gonna be a pice of cake. Excellent work!!
this is really true sim, didnt c that in a while.

The detail on the cockpit.. holy ****

Talking about the video. Training itself and simulation part of it are great!
Warcraft pointers and wireframe boxes around buttons are killing it :(
Please make some sort of "military style" transparent red arrows to show a switch, don't steal attention from such a realistic cockpit!
If it's not visible, make "see through/red-glowing" version of that particular switch, don't spoil all visible switches with boxes.

This is only in the training, there is no wireframes in the simulation...

@chp101 I don't know about you man, but in a tutorial, without having any prior knowledge to where things are, I like having stuff pointed out to me, and with the high amount of buttons, having something in a square is pretty much the optimal way to go in my opinion

@chp101 uh what? this is only for the tutorial.

I do not find time to acquire this spectacular simulator, incidentally also buy a new computer software to fly this ... jajajaj

thank god proper tutorials :D This is what black shark needed so badly, thanks guys.
