Honolulu is doing this the RIGHT way..we are building an Elevated Lite Rail system to avoid street grade collisions and adding more congestion to our already overcrowded roads..I'm now sure if this system will help getting cars off the road but I'm a supporter for rail! It's another option of public transit and I welcome it!!! "TheTrain" will be fully operationally from Kapollei to Ala Moana center (Honolulu) by 2017 or 2018 depending on how smoothly each phases are built

Red lights need to be synchronized to be red on all sides of the intersections that the LRV is approaching. That's something that can be done with a signal coming from the train to the traffic lights. So that all traffic is stopped at the intersection as the LRV passes through it.

LRVs travel fast, take a long time to slow down, and are deathly quiet. People, however, are to blame for all of these collisions, not the LRVs. Main Street is clearly marked with signs, signals and pavement arrows, anyone who can't follow those is to blame.
