Although, if one ship brings back 4000 empty containers, what are the other three ships that brought the original containers across going to do? They still have to go back to pick up the refilled containers?
of-course the real problem of USA overconsuming and underproducing is not handled by this very pretty solution.
Containers should be going back and forward FULL, that's the point of trading with somebody after all - not money. Comparative advantage. You make goods that you are good at and you exchange them for goods somebody else is good at making. In that situation containers would be exchanged both ways with goods in them.
Great idea but as a repairer of containers for over 26yrs , how much more to repair, what about been wind and water tight , or food containers. all good until you need to fix them.
