@dominomade Telemark skiing is the original skiing technique. Been around for much longer than what we refer to as alpine skiing. Telemark is a region of Norway.

riva cables are just fine. three pins rip out your toes. all modern tele gear is shameful overkill. any cave man can tele ski now. and btw modern AT gear is lighter and better than the overweight over priced gearbage you see out there today. that being said. anyone who truly knows how to ski (like these guys) could probably do so on a couple 6' #2 pine 1x4's from home depot plus their skate shoes and a couple sheetrock screws.
Good comment! I just got back from skiing in Norway. I still use leather boots, Rivas and Tuas (204cm). All my Norwegian friends are now using the modern gear. I tried it, but didn't get the same feel and response with the short fat skis and plastic boots.
I got into tele skiing 20 years ago to escape the heavy alpine gear. All the best.
to get it like these guys are riding, you'll need ankle high leather boots and a 3 pin binding. Make sure to treat those boots right though, cause if the leather starts sucking water you'll get some cold feet pretty fast :)

Which binding should I have to complete my oldschool set up? Is the Riva sufficiently old? Or do I need to look towards three pin style bindings?

Back when I was a kid, we didn't have no stinking plastic. Our boots were leather, and our skis were wood.
