I think that they were designed to shoot high flying slow strategic bombers (B-52 ie), not fast and agile fighters. Missile has an enormous range. But they have been phased out by S300 and derivatives.
slow strategic bombers? you must be joking. this rocket flies at Mach 4. and the range isn't enormous. just 55 km and not 400km as of S-400. Krug is a short range SAM designed for troops support against heavy bombers. 130-150 kg Frag-HE warhead speaks for itself :-)

It's just a heavy SAM is all, not meant to hit nimble fighters but giant bombers.
Not to mention it shoots not one, but TWO missiles! Revolutionary for it's time lol.

Yeah, but it is built againts bombers whos cant made manouvers like smaller jets...So this is a great weapon, but only for big targets!

It's surfase-to-air missiles. Launcher from ancient soviet air defence system. that fat things are manoeuvrable enough to shoot down aircraft.
