I think an epiphone valve jr head+cab with some reverb and distortion sounds better despite the few controls, I asked the guys at the big stores and they said they would anyday
@jammers5 What sold me on the Vox cab was that I took the head up to Guitar Center and just started plugging it into any speaker cab I could. These Vox Wharfedales and the Clestion Vintage 30's sounded the best with it, I thought.
@NXC78 I agree. A store here in town was trying to sell me a tube amp head and as luck should have it, it was hooked into a vox cab. It sounded incredible! I took the head and plugged it into a different cab and it didn't sound half as good! I tried other heads into the Vox cab and they all sounded good. It was all I could do to walk out of that store with that cabinet! I will have one though - when I can afford it!
@II6bulletII The Bitmo Triple Bypass gives the Blackheart adds two more voicings to the amp. Here is a description from the Bitmo website:
"The middle position offers a nice balanced tone with a bit more clean headroom. The 2nd position offers a dollop of fatback gain with a chocolaty brown sound. The 3rd position offers a tighter, biting boost – good for thinning muddy humbuckers."
open back cab near the wall helps tone to bloom!!!!! sounds good, crap i wish i hadnt sold mine to me bandmate ..mates i do have the handsome devil 15 watt too sounds incredible im doing the mod on it this sold me
This video sold me on that mod, I think I'll do it. I saw the video at the bitmo website and didn't like the sound, but this sounds incredible. Probably the vox cab makes the difference, do you have blue alnicos on it ?. Cheers
@fabianromano Nope, just the Vox/Wharfedales. I love these "cheap" speakers. I also replaced the tubes with a decent set. The stock Chinese tubes are junk.
hey man, your playing sounds great, i was looking at the deluxe reverb very hard, but where i don't play out I thought about one of the 5 watt amps out now, in your opinion, would you recommend anything after owning the blackheart? such as egnater, blackstar, epi valve etc.? Or stay with my plans for a Deluxe reverb?
Thanks! Hard to say... I probably would have just kept my Blackheart if I hadn't started playing with a band. Out of the amps you listed I have only owned the Epi and the Blackheart. EQ or no, I still like the sound of the Blackheart better.
They both sound great, but the deluxe reverb has a lot more clean headroom and is better for playing with a band. Has slightly better note separation too, IMO.
yep, but you will need to crank the amp up to at least 75% so you won't have a real clean tone. Running it through more speakers will help. If you have a PA you could mic it.
@MrLaser2 however this was with the Blackheart cab I don't know about it with a vox cab

@fabianromano if you have a Little Giant you will love the Bitmo mod it is a HUGE improvement!

Nice tone, what mod did you get it done ? the one that adds the 3 way switch ?
fabianromano 2 years ago
@fabianromano It was the "triple bypass" mod. It's not difficult to install if you can solder.

Why are you selling it?
loldecepticonlol 2 years ago
I needed something with more power. I needed money to buy the deluxe reverb reissue I play through now.

How does the deluxe reverb compare?
