I went to a gymnastics center for the first time in 20+ years and did my first back hip circle (with help). So happy and proud of myself, I can't wait until I can do it alone! :)
Hey guys u r technically and cognitively correct! If u "master te drill" you will "get te skill!" Te only problem I may see a coach critic have is lack of organisational implementation in his gym. Teaching my tots the importance of my turtle (hollow) hav rewarded me greatly at my 1-4 levels. I have ALL your videos and send my kids home to watch and study them. Its AWESOME and its makes my job easier with visualization techniques without me trying to vison to them what to do. GREAT JOB KEEP IT UP
I love this video! I have used many of these drills and seen a huge improvement in my girls. Last year my level 3's averaged a 8.7 on bars and this season they are averaging a 9.2. I have also recently gotten a 6 year old from another gym. At that gym basics are not as important so she looked sloppy. In only 3 weeks, these drills have made her look really good.
Have you had them try a back hip circle without a cast and without your spot? Great drill to make sure they drive toes around and drop chest back and good lead up skill for free hips.
Do use additional wrist shift drills or do you find it comes with repetition of slow circles? I have gymnasts able to do a tight, quick circle but with a late shift and bent arms.
Additional wrist shifting may take place during prehabilitative conditioning (wrist and ankles pre-warm up), but not specifically for a skill. I find the girls learn wrist shifting just fine with doing slow see-saws back up and with repetition of slow circles like you said. Go to a candle first, figure out where your hands need to be, back up to a front support, figure out how to shift your hands to do it, etc. Find the balance between gripping too tightly and not applying pressure.
I think this is awesome developmental techniques. These drills will transfer into great clear hips too! If you ever want a job in ca, look me up. I like your style. Lol
Good theoretical process thanks! But in the real world:
- Most of those steps would be pointless for good gymnasts with a perfect physical condition (like on that video). They would even learn back hip circles by themselves if ever they haven't been taught!
- Most of the gymnasts in a club are recreational, floppy, training maybe 1 or 2 hours a week, and don't spend hours conditioning. They would be unable to realise a lot of those exercises, though they will be able eventually to perform a BHC.
@rickou2 I think the idea of this video is to train great shapes and technique for Level 4, 5 and beyond. It is not designed to teach a first back hip circle. Obviously rec class kids aren't going to go through this type of training, and usually at Level 1 or 2, coaches just want the kids to get around the bar (they are only about 4 years old!). I use a lot of these drills and shaping techniques once the kids are set in Level 2 and I know I have time to work on it-and a reason to! :)
@turtlegym1 Well sorry I have no idea what your levels are, as they are specific to each country (probably USA for you I guess ?).
All I meant is that I find those exercises very theoretical, and not really usable "in real life" : most of them would be too hard and too much time consuming for beginners, and too easy for talented and conditioned gymnasts.
But I might include some conditioning exercises into my circuits sometimes, it can't hurt, can it ?! ;)
@rickou2 I disagree. I've used many of these drills, and made huge improvements in a couple weeks. These drills really make the overall process effortless. If they can do this, learning harder skills will be easy.
What level do u learn this in?
