Just did this one this weekend, it is pretty brutal, my buddy was riding a hardtail and he had a hard time of it. I'll be going back and this time i'll park near the trailhead. This time started at the Central Sierra Snow Lab, and the first 3 miles was a fire road climb to get to Boreal.
right on, but the argument between Nor Cal and Colorado is a moot point compared to SW Arizona. try riding at speed on loose pack with cacti and washes everywhere...this is an awesome trail with plenty of tech, but give the Mohave a run....
Well, I've been to both places, and yes Colorado is the defination of Mt. biking, however, so is Tahoe and the Hole int he Ground Trail is everybit as dificult and technical as trails in Colorado.
The true definition......I'll give it to you that CO has some sick trails (ued to live in Durango), but you folks are forgetting all about British Columbia and the North Shore. That area redefines everything. These guys are right though, there are places in Cal that are every bit as tech as CO. Arizona has some good terrain too. But....BC stands out in my mind.
Hi, im from the uk and own an Expert sl, what tyres to you use, i have found a 2.35 Maxxis highroller on the rear and a Maxxis minion 2.35 on the front works for me.

Boreal Exit then turn right and drive on road until it turns to dirt, then park. The trail head is 1 mile up to the left and it's well marked.
