I know this video is a few years old, and you might have moved accounts, but what program are you using to combine tracks? I'm sure anything would do, but I'm curious to your preference.
@SmileThalia It is a few years old, isn't it?! ;) In this particular video, everything is being done through hardware. No DAW. The KP3 is doing the bulk of the work: recording as I play the phrases live, and then looping them back to me while I add effects. Every pass that is recorded gets assigned to one of the 4 pads along the bottom of the touch screen. So I am switching through the tracks by turning on and off those pads. Outside of this video though, my DAW of choice is Apple Logic Pro.
I just got a KP3 and I already own a XR20, Plus I have a Casio LK-100 ( I know the keyboard is not exactly studio grade but I know I'll be able to sample from it.... Your video's helped me decide to buy the KP3..... all I have seen up until your video was mostly techo type of beats... Nice to see someone use the KP3 for other styles.... I might need some tips if it's cool with you!...
@Oleschool619 I've got loads of old school Casio \ Yamaha keyboards. They have a really fun lo-fi sound to them that can sound great when you dump a gang of effects on them. I never judge people's gear. Great music can be made with anything and some creativity and imagination. I appreciate all the other stuff people are doing with the KP3. Just goes to show how versatile the tool is. I'm glad you like what I'm doing though. And good luck with yours! You'll be sure to have fun :)
@simonced Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The KP3 is a very versatile tool. It's my favourite piece of gear and central in my setup. And I know I've only touched the surface of its capabilities. I just love it!
kidkulit hi their ..lets say you make a drum and bass beat on the xr 20 with the sounds already build in it..so say you got your drum-kick-snare goin right...at any point can I use the wheel selector to add other harmony into it without effecting the the drum pattern!!! thanks for appluing men
@eStefresco To be honest I'm not sure. I haven't done much programming with the XR-20. I've just been using it for sounds to record live looping. Skim the manual, I'm sure there's a way. Good luck!
It's a circuit bent Casio SK-1, custom modded + custom paint job. I didn't bend\mod it myself, but I bought it off someone locally through Craigslist.
SK-1's are old school toy keyboards. So generally, you can usually find them in one of two places: 1) online for a ridiculous amount on ebay or the like or 2) try your luck at finding one at a second-hand store like value village or a pawn shop or something.
Circuit bending is when you physically open up the synth and essentially 'short circuit' the motherboard, trying to find circuits that weren't intended to be connected and connecting them to find new ways of manipulating the sound
I bought my Casio SK-1 modified already and I'm gonna guess that the same guy who modded it also custom painted it. You should see it IRL! The paint job is really sick.
no case, just a full paint job. I'm guessing it looks bigger than usual because of the camera angle? but I assure you it's a normal SK-1 size... fits in my knapsack! :)

@KidKulit I gotcha. I have a KP3 as well, and was referring to software :p
I'm thinking of picking up a microkorg, and now an akai xr-20 after watching your videos. Thoughs? Prices are a bit steep.
SmileThalia 9 months ago
@SmileThalia microKORG can be found for $300 (CDN) used, XR-20 for about $200 (CDN) used. check your local Craigslist... or eBay... good luck!

Vidmakr6302 1 year ago
@Vidmakr6302 For my YouTube videos, I simply use Photobooth (built in iSight + audio line in) on a Mac. When I'm recording, I usually use Logic.

how you connected it!!
eStefresco 1 year ago
@eStefresco
- SK-1 > 1/8 to RCA cable > KP3 > RCA to 1/8 cable > audio in on MacBookPro
- XR-20 > two 1/4 cables > small mixer > audio in on MacBook Pro
- both videos shot in Photobooth, quick split screen edit in Final Cut Pro
EASY! :)

how do u record all your music?
MayorB35 2 years ago
For my youtube vids, I just use photobooth using direct line in for the audio. I usually use Logic Pro when I'm recording true tracks though.
