I sing. So I know, therefore, that it is completely impossible to sing like Colm Wilkinson. No one can sing like that. Colm is a figment of our collective musical imagination. Oh, I just listened to this. Correction. I don't sing. I THOUGHT I sang. I'm going to go drive a bus now. So this is how Salieri felt.............
No fucking way! I didn't realise he was Irish until I saw the RTE banner in the background! He's such a hero. I just wish more people knew about him. :\ Luv ya man!
He actually sings this with a little something called emotion. Who cares if his voice broke. In real life, people don't actually sing to cope with tough situations, but if they did, I bet they wouldn't be pitch perfect all the time.
He doesn't need makeup for this anymore also if you don't watch him when his voice cracks you don't even notice its just the expression that he puts on when he does it, good thing it was on radio
I think the fact that his voice goes almost adds to it.
Plus, Colm wasn't performing to a camera here, but you can still see the amount of emotion he puts into it through his body language. It's truly an amazing take.
@costerluver To be fair this song was written for him 25 years ago, he still kicks ass the same as always. Most young men can't sing this and a mans voice only gets deeper as he gets older. Colm is still amazing in my books!!
@davo664 Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of his. In my opinion, he is the greatest actor/singer to ever play the role of Jean Valjean and the fact that he can still sing this song so beautifully at age 66 is amazing.
The poignant thing is that Colm is NOW the age in real life that the character Jean Valjean was supposed to be at the point in Les Miserables when he sang 'Bring Him Home.' A song about wanting his future son-in-law Marius to be brought home safely...and the age Valjean died soon afterwards.
Oh, and kudos to the guy filming.....must have taken a lot of careful planning to not trip on anything or make any noise with all those mikes surrounding ya!
For the love of all things musical theatre..that man still has it...had the pleasure of witnessing Colm bring les mis 'Home' to the point all those years ago with my late parents outstanding and now...goosebumps..such lovley memories for me!
amazing

Good point. If they ever got around to adapting Les Miserables into a motion picture, cast Colm Wilkenson as older Jean Valjean.

@mlabot he would be amazing in the film but I dont know how he would do draging Marius through the sewer

Is it just me or did the soon in "how soon they fly" went off key?
And did the "if God had granted me a son" sound half a second too early? I'm not sure if I'm right, I just noticed a very small difference.

His Voice Just Broke For A Second, It's Happend To Everyone
rominoly 1 year ago
@rominoly The break in voice only adds to the emotion for the scene/song, since its supposed to be a sad song anyway. :'( Quite the song.
adhfan75 11 months ago
@XxEchoingSilencexX Yeah his voice went on how soon they fly
But the other piece was on time, anyway there's no restrictions in a song like this, you can make small changes to the timing if you want
