  • THE GREATEST!!!!!!! An amazing backing track to an iconic Motown song.........the greatest Motown single of all-time, in my opinion. The Funk Brothers were stratospheric!!!!!!!!!!! Laying down that pounding, stomping, uplifting beat! Oh YES! THE BEST! Bierney45 X

  • Didn't expect to like this but - it's really cool to hear that side of the track for once, superb arrangement and performance all round.

  • brillant

  • Having listened for the first time to this particular version (i.e.not the Earl/piano instrumental track) on headphones tonight .....several times, I am quite amazed at the drum beat at around 0.14 and beyond sort of 3 strikes and then 1 tambourine & repeat.

    what's that called then ?

  • I know it's been said (& part of me believes it too) that with the backing of The Funk Brothers, the artists doing the singing were pretty much a shoe-in if you will. But when I hear this incredible instrumental version of a song I remember instantly falling in love with,I can't help thinking how the magnificent Levi Stubbs with his soothing/soft raspy soulful voice was always a perfect match for this lovely, lovely melody of chord progressions. You will never be forgotten & will always be TOPS!

  • Fantastic !! Love the version

  • The strings arrangement is fantastic!

  • @SteveArpo

    100% with you there.

If you love string arrangements from Motown like me, please check out the strings on It Takes Two from Marvin and Kim.
