  • A certain French or Breton feel to the arrangements, but an English lady nonetheless.

Stealing from the best, and doing it with STYLE.

  • Melancholic, nostalgic, wonderful.

  • an amazing song and only heard it after my mate Davey Morton put me onto it, one of the nicest songs i,ve ever heard !!!!

  • awesome, not a word I use lightly.

  • i think i ve raped the repeat button

  • Lindíssima canção. Lovely.

  • i think il watch this vid 50 times in the last week.....super song

  • This is songwriting of the highest order. I was brought up with French chanson and get highly annoyed when people say no good music comes from the Continent. What? Greco, Brassens, Brel, Aznavour et al. This sounds very continental to my ears and all the better for it. Elegant, stylish and lyrical. A quality song. By the way, why is the album Victory for the Comic Muse never in the shops? I still haven't got this classic song in my collection. Cool melancholy, can't beat it.

  • this song always makes me sad...

  • Fell in love with that pure treasure as soon as I leastened to it

  • Best Divine Comedy has over done and ever will do - emotional, melancholy galore, yet uplifting.

  • simply amazing...

  • Beautiful song!!

  • this song has made me cry on many occasions

  • A true masterpiece...............

  • Utter Perfection

  • Fading Englishness.. yet he's Northern Irish..

    Fading Britishness then, yes?

  • @princesswaterhouse The song is about 'an English lady of a certain age'...

  • @princesswaterhouse and here we see the problem with our 'British' society in general

  • @princesswaterhouse I don't think the Northern Irish consider themselves British... it's The United Kingdom of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland.

  • A truly excellent creation !

  • Gaaad! Wheres my wine!!! Are we all that pointless? Tell me no!!!!!!!!!!

  • @123jsbach Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)))

  • @TheZeledaki Phew! Thats a relief! ;)

  • The best song

  • Truly a genius of the music world

  • This is seriously the greatest song ever written, and the best part is nobody knows of it. Its like my secret little song that no one ever plays. I don't even show it to people because I don't want them to like it. I want it for myself. :)

  • @Stickiesrogue yeah, it's quite awesome........ & ofcourse he's got quite a few gems that nobody knows about - great isn't it??

  • @Stickiesrogue you realise that that is pretty much the definition of a hipster, right?

  • @Stickiesrogue disagree 50000 people at least do, but agreed that this song is good

  • @Stickiesrogue im gonna post it on everyones facebook wall you hipster :D

  • this is really a beautiful song ...

  • thank you, it's gorgeus

  • simply THE BEST! Magnificent! Magique!

  • MASTERPIECE

  • I've been listening to this three times a day since i discovered it.

    Masterpiece!

A slowly unspooling portrait of Fading Englishness.

Worthy of THE KINKS in their prime!

  • @Coalkey23 The Kinks were rarely this good (and I LIKE The Kinks).

  • Possibly my favourite d/c song, such a great tune

  • Brilliant.

  • Oustanding......what more can I say....apart from Fantastic

  • Dedicated to my English landlady Judy.....

  • hannon truly has the knack of using 4 or 5 minutes of our precious time and creating wonderful plays with music, they can be comic or tragic, even both at the same time.

whatever, it is always 4 or 5 minutes of our lives that is truly well spent.

    an underrated genius!

  • Other than Diva Lady, this seems to be the most popular song from their 'Victory for the Comic Muse' album. I can barely find anything for 'The Light of Day'...

This is a beautiful, harrowing song, though, which I'm sure rings at least partially true for many people.

  • just got to love Hannons lyrics, always very good, amusing and seroius at the same time. good work fella!!

  • beautiful song ! from geneva !

  • this is a great song! when did it come out?

  • 2006,in victory for the cosmic muse

  • superb

  • paliokoritso.........
