  • This has a sort of wit that I don't see in many modern rags. And the playing is quite tasteful and expressive!

  • Who wrote this rag? Can I have sheet music?

  • Hi!:) I wrote this Rag :)

  • Ok, so Can I have the sheet music? Or do I have to write it down by ear? :)

  • Well, you could have the sheets of course, but there is only a couple of things bugging me in this piece, harmonically wise and I was planing on "fixing" them in the future:) Also I might end up changing the name... but I guess you could have them!:) Send me an post with your email, and Ill send the sheets to you!

  • Thomas! You are my inspiration!! you are soo cool!!! 5 stars

  • I just love this rag to bits.

You've done it again for me! You grabbed me right from the opening bars with such fun and unexpected harmonic ideas.

It's of the best rags I've ever heard. You play it brilliantly. You're a true musician.

    5*****

  • You did this??

    And... wow...

    You... you are very talented!!

I have no more words for this... 5*

  • Fy faen, det var kult. Du tilbyr vel ikke å sende mp3'er av komposisjonene dine? Likte denne ganske bra, ja.

  • Haha, awesome! I've never actually tried to play my own rag before, I think you've inspired me.

  • Yeah, its fun:)

  • You just reminded me that I need to learn more ragtime. :D

Since I'm not too experienced in ragtime, I can't give an honest critique or compliment, but I can say it sounds good and must have taken a lot of work! Good job. :)

  • miss said my comment,i mean that if i did this i would get a 6/8. Sorry if i confused you.( 6 out of 8 ) Blah cant explain good.. Lol

  • Do you know What Grade This Is? I have the 6/8 one ( Some where close there)

  • Hi. Hm, what do you mean?

I composed this piece :) I would say its a grade 7 or 8... But its not official =)

What do you have 6/8?? Didnt understand that :)

  • This is the BEST rag I have ever heard! Keep on playing! When you become a world famous composer, I can proudly say, "I WAS THIS GUY'S FRIEND ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    From,

    Your Friend,

    aacs4

  • Hehe ;) Why thank you :)

  • I love your playing Thomandy! That was a great piece you composed! You should publish it!

    From your friend, Dimipoke 1

  • Thanks :) Well, I have talked to an American Rag Expert about this piece, and he said that I needed to polish the harmony before I published it. He said; a 20% more polished harmony and you got yourself a high standard rag! :) So I was planning on doing that some day :P

  • What do you mean polish the harmony? I don't understand.

  • There are some harmony misshaps in this piece, that really only pros with Great ear can hear and sence. I couldnt hear them before Mr Bil(an american rag-expert) commented on them. :)

  • There is great humour in this composition - I am not quite sure how you achieve this, I think it is by the use of a seemingly 'wrong note' in the harmonisation of the opening section. The middle section is also very characterful. You have surely captured the spirit of the rag in this composition - well done! One of my early works is 'the Edgware Rag' which I think I composed for Piano & clarinet & oboe & (possibly, trumpet!) - not sure if I can find the sketch of that among 1300+ since 1976!

  • I Have to say I can not believe that you play One Year Piano it is very good.

And i see you make really more with you left hand.Bravo!!

  • Ah, these rags are always so fun! It works quite well as a whole and yes, your left hand definitely did more work here :)

  • Thanks, yeah. This is a major comp. I took my time, both theoretically and in the making. The other comp took me a couple of hours. But still I love them both :) hehe

  • Congratulations Thomas. Well done!

  • Thank you for have report me this beautiful Rag!

    very good ;)

  • All my appreciation, great composition, no doubt you were born to be a composer ;)

  • thanks maggie :)

  • Now I know how to kill a werewolf without a gun. Just play this rag! haha...Nice Job!

  • Wow!!! Nice!!! =D

  • Seriously though it's like the best composed song ever! ;) Wish I could compose like you do! So original and catchy! 10*/5*

  • Thanks man ;)

  • sounds good mate, only thing I find could be improved noticably is during the verses its a bit repetitive, and that after the three-note bit between each bar should only be present for the first 4 bars of each verse, where as atm its going for about 7 i think, eg it starts at 0:08 and I think that should stop after 4 bars or at 0:19.

another thing regarding the same thing, the verses dont really build until the 9th bar i find, the first half is not going anywhere for me.

    good luck bro :D

  • BoGnBoy: but repitive makes this rag funky :D

not that much problem with that, only it has a weak ending

  • I would like to learn that song. You did great.

  • Thanks. I might publish it someday, but there a couple of changes I need to do before I release it :)

  • Awesome:)

    Xo

    Carina

Its better than MOST of the rags I have ever heard!!!!! Its so freagging Catchy :) Wish I could rate it every time I listened to it :)

  • So no one can steel this and get away with it!!!

  • Yeah, thas true :) I got Chopyright, so thats no problem :)

  • Jeppsy :) Or else originals would be dangerous to post! =)) How long did it take for you to do this?

  • It took from the around 1des-ish until this week :) So about a month or so :)

  • Only a month?? Well to be honest, im not sure how long Joplin ect used to compose his stuff :) But he didnt release That many a year so :O

  • Im not sure :P I know that many good composers "writes" in their head before they go to the piano :P

  • Wow, that sound impressive. Can you compose in your head?? :)

  • I was about to ask the same thing :P

    Can you?? :P

  • Hehe, you guys are quick :P

Nah, not really. I tried, but it was hard. I had to do it At the piano. :)

  • fireklover: Yeah, I got sheets for it, but im not sure Im giving it out yet. :)

  • I understand :)

  • YOu shouldnt give it out!! This is safest ofcourse, im not sure about the rules of Chopyright :P

  • Actually, chopyright is working right away a work is presented to the public =D

  • this guy is so talented. ! 5*

  • Wow, you are so right! :) 5*

  • The more I listen, oh... I just love it :)

Feature, feature fature :D haha LOL

  • I really want you to do more of these things? Do you got sheets for it?????????? xD

  • This is as its being said, an AWESOME composition. :) You did a GREAT job Thomas. Are you going to publish it? Notes??

  • ANother note, I think you should publish it. I would LOVE to play it........ haha, If I where able to play a piece like this :O

  • Everytime I see a video of yours, I look at your hands and think "now how the (bleep) does he do that???!!!"

  • He is good ha? I am so glad I found his channel :)

  • I would hardly play this, and, obviously, it would be impossible for me to make this!

wow! thomas you're REALLY the best! I gave you, obviously 5 stars :D

I can imagine the time you took to search for information, make over and over a part, and finally to make this!

just wonderful! have a nice day, =)

  • Hehe, yeah. It looks so hard :)

And thats Rag for you! :P hehe... they are so hard :P

Love this!!! As Liz7 says: PUBLISH IT!! :)5*

  • Yeah, I didnt think of that :P

You should try to publish it. Thats not a easy thing though :P But this is as Good As Any Joplin :) I think you are a genius and I look forward to more comps from you :)

  • Yeah, of course its hard :) But its worth a try :) This is Quality in every note :)

  • You are tight! :)

  • I meant - Right! :)

  • Tnx guys! :) Im not sure if I can do that?

What must be in order and where can I go to do this?? :P hehe

  • Very proud of you, your great, and I enjoyed this. You talk of NOT breaking the rules - a lot. If you want to be original you WILL have to break the rules. You also spoke of chord movement, root, dominant, sub-dominant. what happens if you throw in diminished and/or minor chords into the mix. what it not be rag? Or would it be Thomas rag.

  • Glad you like it :)

Ill give you a answer on your page :)

  • Well, I need to study more rag. Your already being compared to Joplin, so what else can I say, but congrats!!!!! Keep on composing, because your a hell of a composer. Are you capturing your stuff and copyrighting it?

  • Hi =) Thanks! :)

Well, the Copyright is automatic once its presented for a public, either its a small gathering locally or on youtube. I read of the rules for copyright on wikipedia, so there isnt really anything I have to do, unless you know otherwise?? :)

  • No, that should do it. Do you have your material written down? Do you use Siebulus or something similar to capture your scores?

  • I have written sheets to this one, but in Finale. Its not the best, but It did the job. Then I converted it into pdf. It took some time to do :P

  • Hi :) There are some rules that need to be obtained! :) but he is Very Creative here I feel :) Its like a mix of a New Rag meets Old Rag. Its one of the best I have heard since Scott Joplin!! :)

  • very good 5 stars :)

  • I like it mate. Keep playin'

    5 stars from me

  • Biggest project.. and time well spent! That's amazing.. Ragtime is one of the most fun genres of music to play! 5Stars definately!

  • Awesome composing and playing - and featuring a picture of the piano that someone is going to award you someday for all of your fine work. Keep it up!

  • *****Great performance *****

  • WOW.........................................

    I'm speachless...

VERY IMPRESSED, I don't even know what to say to that. That actually sounds in the same league as Scott Joplin! Wow, thomas! That's a better composition than I've EVER done, WOW! GREAT JOB! You are genius, the longer I know you the more I realize how amazingly smart and dedicated you are!

  • Thanks Andrew :)) I was very eager to hear what you had to say ;) And its a Great compliment for sure :) Thanks^^

  • Lizakk7 and creativesoul4 said it ALL :O

Im lost for words so im gona shut up - 5*

  • I love Ragtime. And wow, this sails right up on my favorite Rags. Its sort of original, but contains the old Rag-Feeling!!! So weel written, I cant believe it! You should be signed or something :P

A true natural talent, not only played piano for a year, and you deliver this extraordinar music :) Its unreal :) Keep it up in 09 :)

    CC

  • Aweseme!! This looks quite hard, I can tell especially from the octave-part in the B-Part. 16note octave jumps in the right hand melody, while jumpind dubble-octaves with the left hand, but I love hove the bass is at that part. Like its building itselfe upwards. And the transitions is so smooth and well written!!!!!! :) 5stars

    Mar

  • Sounds great. Awesome playing! ^_^

  • nice work! i enjoyed listening to it :)

  • You wrote this yourself? Im very impressed, Bravo!

  • Hi :) Thanks! :)

  • wait sorry, considering some octaves, i think this could b placed probs in 7th grade lol, but not any higher since of the easy accompaniment part.

  • You cant see how hard this is based on my video :) Its harder than Joplins Maple Leaf Rag!!

    The accompaniment, easy??

  • o also, if your looking for a major classical project, u should look for doing chopin's etudes, or lizst's concert etudes

  • lmao... good technical playing, articulated well. good job i give 9 stars outta 10.

lol.. this is only grade 5 in the LEISURE syllabus lol, its not hard lol, its quite easy to sight read as well

  • o really nice dude!

  • Absoluetly terrific Thomas!!!! This is your best I've heard!!!! Great Job

    5/5

    :o)

  • Ooh. I like it! Very original, and easy to listen too.

You've really come such a long way this past year.

    5/5

  • YES I ENJOY! and thank you for considering me in the send....RAG ON!!!!

  • Very good composition and playing. thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks :) Thats nice, coming from a Rag-Expert?

  • Thomas: Congratulations on your first rag! I have a lot to say about it, so I'll just send you a personal message on the details.

  • Terrific Thomas. Your best composition yet!

  • Very Cool! You have wide interests in music!

  • Thanks, yeah I like a lot of different music :)

  • Is this your composition?

  • Yes, it is :)

  • Catchy! ^_^

  • That was really awesome Thomas..i watch all your videos :) ...wish I could play ragtime

  • Wow, that was awesome, really entertaining! :D You actually created a real ragtime. :) Congrats on gaining such a big amount (right word? :P) of theoretical knowledge as well as performing your piece so smoothly. You did a good job on the harmony and I loved the chords as well.

Well, this reminds me of The Maple Leaf Rag a bit. ;)

Keep up the good work, Thomas! Good luck! =)

  • Thanks :) It took me a long time though, I have created every thing from scratch, based on harmony vs melody :)

  • Very ambitious undertaking, Thomas! It's a very

interesting rag because its subtle quirks will challenge us who are familiar with the standards and yet you keep it from going too far afield, I think. Congratulations! And a question: when you promise something extra for those who are interested, how are we to learn more about this cool Silver Bullet?

  • Thanks :) Well, I wrote some in the box ->

Im not sure at the moment what more I could say :) The thing I wanted to get out was that this Isnt just taken out of the blue, its a very theoretical and hopefully creative piece. It follows the rules, and I have worked alot with the voice leading, strain-restrictions ect ect. I hope that people see that this isnt jst something taken out of the blue. If someone would ever want to analyze it, you can see how patterns reappears in different shapes ect

  • Great! 5*

  • Ohh I love it!!

  • Ahhhh i love rags :D that was awesome ahah reminds me of um...silent movie music! :D

  • Amazing! Welldone , you are a big musician!
