Well, you could have the sheets of course, but there is only a couple of things bugging me in this piece, harmonically wise and I was planing on "fixing" them in the future:) Also I might end up changing the name... but I guess you could have them!:) Send me an post with your email, and Ill send the sheets to you!
You just reminded me that I need to learn more ragtime. :D
Since I'm not too experienced in ragtime, I can't give an honest critique or compliment, but I can say it sounds good and must have taken a lot of work! Good job. :)
This is the BEST rag I have ever heard! Keep on playing! When you become a world famous composer, I can proudly say, "I WAS THIS GUY'S FRIEND ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Thanks :) Well, I have talked to an American Rag Expert about this piece, and he said that I needed to polish the harmony before I published it. He said; a 20% more polished harmony and you got yourself a high standard rag! :) So I was planning on doing that some day :P
There are some harmony misshaps in this piece, that really only pros with Great ear can hear and sence. I couldnt hear them before Mr Bil(an american rag-expert) commented on them. :)
There is great humour in this composition - I am not quite sure how you achieve this, I think it is by the use of a seemingly 'wrong note' in the harmonisation of the opening section. The middle section is also very characterful. You have surely captured the spirit of the rag in this composition - well done! One of my early works is 'the Edgware Rag' which I think I composed for Piano & clarinet & oboe & (possibly, trumpet!) - not sure if I can find the sketch of that among 1300+ since 1976!
Thanks, yeah. This is a major comp. I took my time, both theoretically and in the making. The other comp took me a couple of hours. But still I love them both :) hehe
sounds good mate, only thing I find could be improved noticably is during the verses its a bit repetitive, and that after the three-note bit between each bar should only be present for the first 4 bars of each verse, where as atm its going for about 7 i think, eg it starts at 0:08 and I think that should stop after 4 bars or at 0:19.
another thing regarding the same thing, the verses dont really build until the 9th bar i find, the first half is not going anywhere for me.
The more I listen, the more I love it! When I pressed for more background detail, all those juicey details hadn't emerged. (Maybe server lag?) Fantastic, Thomas. And you really conferred with Wm Bolcom himself? Impressive!
Real nice job. Great progress and productivity. Especially interesting that you have done a great job with various music styles. This one sounds like the local Saloon is open for business. 5* Happy Musical '09.
Love that you say that, cause thats what I was aiming for :) Also thats why I chose the name, cause when I hear Silver Bullet, or Bullet I think of the "Saloon-era" :)
Excellent! Really, very well done! I also greatly appreciate the process you posted in the video description. That is quite informative. Outstanding! 5* -Derek
You should try to publish it. Thats not a easy thing though :P But this is as Good As Any Joplin :) I think you are a genius and I look forward to more comps from you :)
Very proud of you, your great, and I enjoyed this. You talk of NOT breaking the rules - a lot. If you want to be original you WILL have to break the rules. You also spoke of chord movement, root, dominant, sub-dominant. what happens if you throw in diminished and/or minor chords into the mix. what it not be rag? Or would it be Thomas rag.
Well, I need to study more rag. Your already being compared to Joplin, so what else can I say, but congrats!!!!! Keep on composing, because your a hell of a composer. Are you capturing your stuff and copyrighting it?
Well, the Copyright is automatic once its presented for a public, either its a small gathering locally or on youtube. I read of the rules for copyright on wikipedia, so there isnt really anything I have to do, unless you know otherwise?? :)
Hi :) There are some rules that need to be obtained! :) but he is Very Creative here I feel :) Its like a mix of a New Rag meets Old Rag. Its one of the best I have heard since Scott Joplin!! :)
Oh.. hahaha that explains a lot ;) I didn't notice the beginning of the video and previous comments. You're really talented, that's amazing you try composing.
Whoa, that was sooo cooool! You've only been playing a year? Wow! That was really great; keep it up because you've really got talent! I'm going to try and post my son again this weekend. He's gotten a lot better, but doesn't practice as much as he should.
Awesome composing and playing - and featuring a picture of the piano that someone is going to award you someday for all of your fine work. Keep it up!
VERY IMPRESSED, I don't even know what to say to that. That actually sounds in the same league as Scott Joplin! Wow, thomas! That's a better composition than I've EVER done, WOW! GREAT JOB! You are genius, the longer I know you the more I realize how amazingly smart and dedicated you are!
I love Ragtime. And wow, this sails right up on my favorite Rags. Its sort of original, but contains the old Rag-Feeling!!! So weel written, I cant believe it! You should be signed or something :P
A true natural talent, not only played piano for a year, and you deliver this extraordinar music :) Its unreal :) Keep it up in 09 :)
Aweseme!! This looks quite hard, I can tell especially from the octave-part in the B-Part. 16note octave jumps in the right hand melody, while jumpind dubble-octaves with the left hand, but I love hove the bass is at that part. Like its building itselfe upwards. And the transitions is so smooth and well written!!!!!! :) 5stars

This has a sort of wit that I don't see in many modern rags. And the playing is quite tasteful and expressive!
