@TheHorn123456 That would be amusing except your cannons would not damage the 3inch steel hulls, nor could you catch them once their engines got up to speed,
What a beautiful ship to still be sailing. As the story goes she almost did not make it. On her first cruise sailing for Calcutta from Liverpool in January of 1864 under Captain William John Storry a collision occurred at night. A Spanish brig running without lights pulled the hit and run causing considerable damage carrying off her jib-boom and rigging.
tis damn boat is haunted, we spent the night on it one night and we saw sailors atop the masts, then they fucking disapeard, and we kep hearing noies and shit
I also visited this ship while in San Diego. The masts under the deck are enormous. I also thought that I heard that it was the largest steel hulled merchant ship still afloat...anywhere.
This is great! I was able to go out with the November 2008 group - it is an experience I will never forget. Thanks for posting, and and the narration.
Great video. I was on crew on Star that weekend. To see Surprise sailing with Star of India was breathtaking and not to be taken for granted. These are the only two ships like this in the world that still sail. May they sail together again this November!
