  • Pretty good sound! Not healthy for my blackstar's GAS!!

  • what i like about this amp people say its good for small gigs but its awesome for Huge ones to just DI it and mic it awesome tone for the money

  • Best recording of HT-5 lineout in youtube!! i'm gonna get one of this!!

  • ok, it's a decent recordable sound, but the Les Paul does not sound like a Les Paul, it sounds like a Blackstar amp, the amp seems to over ride the guitar, the character of the guitar is lost, that's an r7, it could be an Epiphone to my ears.

It's a good budget amplifier that delivers high gain at reasonable cost, so i applaud it for that, but sorry, it's not for me, i would rather keep saving and pay through the nose for an amp that retains the subtleties of a great guitar - nicely played.

  • @mothowl Yes, it sounds like a Blackstar amp. Which is a great thing! I like your Demo realdocloco.

  • can someone recommend an audio interface/recorder, i use line 6 gx but it sounds shiity

  • Nice playing mate. Is this really the sound of just the amp being recored straight into your computer, no effects or anything? Would you recommend this amp? I need an amp for practice and recording so would this do the trick? Cheers

  • This sounds absolutely fantastic. I wish the HT-20 sounded like this so bad.

  • cable from the emulated output straight to the pc?

  • @TequeDiogo : straight to the Boss BR1600 (my recorder)

  • wo....

    amazing sound and great playing:)

  • Doc, everytime I watch your demos, I want to go out an buy whatever you're playing.

Sounds great! As usual. By the way, you need to try out the Blackstar HT Studio 20 and post a demo.

  • Well, I rather consider the HT Club 40 to say the truth :-)

  • The intro sounds identical to AC/DC in every way. the tone is exact, too!

  • Excellent!

  • wow, very nice! nice playing and great tone from this thing. Its hard to believe you get these good of sounds from the line out without any manipulation. Cool!

  • Well done my friend, enjoyed listening to you play,I forgot I was supposed to be listening to the amp.

  • Does this still have to be plugged into a speaker cabinet when using the emulated line out? And does it mute the speaker out when in use?

  • Very nice.

    Rock out !!!

  • Hey! Cool demo! Just got my HT-5 head, but I have no cabinet.. I'll use the lineout for recording, but do I need to have a cabinet connected in order not to damage the amp? Thanks ;-)

  • WOW. Now I'm confused again. I was going to get a Vox. Going back and forth on this for weeks. I definately need to be able to record direct and this is great for small shows too...aah!

  • what type of system did you record into? sounds good even coming over you tube.

  • Hi man what kind of cable do you use to connect your ht5 to the BR600, is it a stereo out trs or mono. Im considering getting one of these instead of a spider iv 75. i would be plugging into my macs stereo line in or possibly a zoom mrs 8

  • Salut!

    Merci beaucoup

  • Hey!

    Sa y'es j'ai commandé la bête !

    :D

  • Very nice playing!

  • Yup, sound really better without the youtube compression

  • Very fantastic!

Whats your setting at 0.37 please?

    Thanks a lot

  • Thx - at 00:37, there's two guitars in harmony (à la Thin Lizzy), using "english" settings if I remember well, so ISF at 15 ou16 o clock

  • Did u connect the head directly into the computer or did u use an interface of some sort?

  • I don't use the computer for recording, but a Boss BR1600CD.

  • Like the phrasing! Do you remember what settings on your amp you were using to get that lead tone or is that just the Les Paul tone? I have the combo and a Schecter Blackjack and am trying to get a good lead tone like you are getting here with the Les Paul.

  • Great job on the demo but a quick question - what drum machine or drum soft synth are you using in this demo and which DAW? Good programming//

  • I'm using the Boss BR1600 recorder's drum machine.

  • Man, I love your style, It's freaking great- nice finger work. .

In ten days I'm visiting in Boston and picking up mine- I ordered few weeks ago from GC. I have a new Marshall Vintage Modern 100w but really looking forward to this little monster.

  • sounds so crisp and clear! What kind of cable did you use for the lineout?

  • Someone likes AC/DC :). 5*. The opening riff was killer! Very AC/DC sounding, which is a complement coming from a huge AC/DC fan.

  • Yes it's designed for.

  • Hi, i have a question, Can you plug the head straight to a PA using the speaker emulation lineout? thanks

  • Yes.

  • i'm 100% certain that this is all tube

but it sounds good, so it doesn't matter :)

  • Do you mean your're certain it's not all tube?

  • no. i just said that it doesn't matter what type of amp it is, it still sounds good.

  • it is an all tube amp

  • Nope. See my comments about tracing out the circuit earlier in this thread.

  • Neither are some Marshall's

  • nice vid! good playing!

  • What r u recordimng into?

A line or instrument level input? I've tried recordong via an M Audio FW 410 soundcard but the signal is just too hot unless I have the volume right down on the amp?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

  • I'm using a Boss BR1600. The input signal is rather hot indeed, can't go higher than 2,5-3 on the master volume.

  • Speaker emulated is line level.

  • does this amp have a true tube pre-amp or is it a hybrid? I think I heard it has only 1 12ax7 tube... so I'm not sure if that could be for both the pre-amp and phase splitter or just the splitter? In other words, is the line out coming from a solid state preamp or a tube preamp?

  • It has a 12AX7 and a 12BH7 tube. The latter is the one is wired in push-pull configuration to impliment the special tone function the amp has.

  • So another lucky Owner :)

I picked up mine just an hour ago. had no time to play yet but for sure i will tonight :P

    cheers

  • you have to or else you'll fry the output transformer, hope i didnt reply too late

  • My god! These tones are insane!!!! I was looking for a tiny teror but man! For half of the price you got 2 channels, effect loop, direct line out, and this uk/usa setting!... very interesting! thanks for posting this! great job!

  • Very nice playing and tone! I'm looking to pick one of these up soon. The ONLY hesitation was that it had no option of using the line out AND the speaker at the same time if I wanted. I love the idea of silent recording but want the ability to use the amp for low stage volume while also running direct w/o having to mic it. I emailed Blackstar and they said it's an easy mod to add the option of a speaker on/off switch. Made my day!

    Greg

  • killer solo man!!

  • shit, man, this is really good for a line out sound.perfect for late night riff recording.

gonna get me the combo version!

  • nice tone! what song is the first riff (les paul) from?

  • It's a little tune I wrote for the test.

  • you're a great songwriter then :)

  • Comment removed

  • damn man that tone is fucking impressive for a $300 amp!

  • That's a pretty good sound for an emulated line out! If you put that through a PA in a live situation it would sound even better and the mix engineer would thank you, too!

  • Man that was one hell of a good jam, fantastic sound and playing. I ordered the amp yesterday and will receive it mid april could't wait for it.

  • Please could someone explain to me what the emulated output is?

    Please reply!

  • Easy. When you have a "normal" line out, the sound on a mixer/console is awfull, because you have the sound of the amplifier ... but not of the speaker! And the speaker plays a MAJOR role in the final sound. So here, you have a line out WITH a speaker emulation - so the direct sound you get at the mixer or console is as close as possible to the same amp miked.

  • So a question... is this really an all tube amp, or is the Blackstar HT-5 a solid-state preamp section goosed a preamp tube, then sent to a power tube?

I'm actually pretty darn impressed with the line out recording. Of course, tone is in the hands - nice work!

  • Im pretty sure its all tubes. One Ecc83 preamp and 12BH7 poweramp.

  • What do you mean? It has one preamp and one poweramp tube? Whats hybrid in it?

  • I think it has a solid state rectifier, but it's still classed as an all-valve amp because it has an all-valve preamp and power amp.

  • Comment removed

  • not true theres a 12ax7 in there

  • Check the espguitars website for photos of the board showing the opamps. Just scroll down. It's true that there is a 12AX7, but half of it is probably used as a phase splitter. The super high gain and the tone shaping of this amp is in the solid state front end. It's a hybrid amp. If you like the sound, then great, but it's not an all tube amp.

  • Dude, who cares, as long as it sounds f@$&ing good? Trust your ears, not your eyes.

  • Comment removed

  • I agree that the sound is what matters. I was just responding to an earlier post about whether this is an "all tube" amp. It isn't. You're forced to use the solid state front end at all times. A better way to go may be a good pedal and a 5W all tube amp. Then you can bypass the pedal when you want. I have this amp on order, so I'll find out soon if it sounds as good as an all tube amp or not and post my opinion. Like I said, if you like the sound, then great.

  • In what world are you using a "solid state front end." There is no solid state. This is a full tube head.

  • I just got this amp and opened it up and traced the signal path. There's a solid state preamp before the 12AX7 and a solid state phase splitter between the 12AX7 and the 12BH7. I guess that's a "solid state front end", at least partially.

  • hmm, it would be interesting to find out how this SS preamp is involved in the tone, that is, if it's involved in any preamp distortion specifically and if so how much. Hopefully it's not a similar situation as the one you get with cheap "tube" mic preamps, where they're just an op-amp signal that's routed to a starved plate preamp tube to add "warmth"...

  • The SS preamp is only used for the Drive channel, but the signal does clip before it reaches the first tube. The distortion appears to be a combination SS diode clipping and tube overdrive. The tubes run at full voltage.

  • I wonder if this is similar (and I mean just similar, not exactly the same) to some of the JCM800's that have diode clipping to add more distortion to the preamp

  • Do you comment on every video about this amp? Who do you work for, exactly?

  • LOL Obviously johnmd1970 is a fan of the little zvex nano and stuff like that. the nano is crap! had this thing at home. sound is, lets say, ok but no grounding and alotta noise from the fan are inacceptable.

    I LOVE THE BLACKSTAR!!!

THX for this great Demo realdocloco!

  • Wow! You guys really love this amp. I should get mine next week. I hope it's as good as you say it is.

  • Great sound and compo , congrats.

  • reminds me of acdc...great solo

  • Sounds great, and fantastic playing-nice composition, too. Do you have any music collections out?

  • Super compo, une technique de dingue... Perfect, as usual !

  • Thx, it's a song of mine.

  • Killer sound but I am holding out for a Mark V.

  • and that is why HT-5 RULES!!!

i have the combo xD :D

  • Great Stuff! Just what I like to see on my YT travels!!

  • Sold :)

  • Great video.

Is it also possible to record silently with this amp? I've read the manual and it said you have to connect speakers but is it also ok if you do not connect speakers but a headphone or lineout to your computer?

  • A speaker has always to be connected BUT the speaker audio is cut off when you're using the lineout/headphone out, so yes you can play and record silently :-)

  • Salut !

  • Directly to my Boss BR1600 recorder. I've just added a little reverb at the mix and that's all - didn't even had to equalize.

  • very interesting....could you tell me where did you send the signal from line out ? directly to what ? tks
