If you've ever heard of it, "Durham's rock hard water putty" is some great stuff for the nozzle base. I used to use it on my PVC cased KNO3/Sucrose rocket engines (got designs and ideas from nakka-rocketry 0 net). replace "0" with a "." obviously, but there is some good info on there, not sure if he's updated it lately, but he has some valuable information on home made rocket engines, its what got me involved in amateur rocketry in the first place.

The burn time was super short, like in most thin motors...about .5 secs, I would say.
How big was the throat?
I'd try a thicker motor for a longer burn.
