I've gone to almost every Celtics game since 1963 when I was 10. Never saw a man that could make shots like Bird game after game. He also hustled his ass off that's one reason he was so great. The only player that could match him in hustle was Dave Cowens Cowens was outplaying centers 3-4-5 inches taller just from pure hustle. Both a pleasure to watch but Bird was INCREDIBLE!! He played his last 3 yrs with a VERY bad back and still dominated. Bird vs Magic what a matchup I'll never forget it.
No Shot Clock. No Three-point line. A good old-fashioned basketball game. Man, I can't believe that is 30 long years people still talking about the Michigan State-Indiana State championship game. The great 1979 title game is the staple of March Madness.
Was only 10 yrs old when I witnessed this game. I was a Magic and Bird fan ever since! I believe that Indiana State was un-defeated up until this game.
The most viewed NCCA final in history, but was also one of the WORST played. Statistically, the shooting was horrible on both sides, almost embarrassing, but what a game!
Think of all the great moments that were about to begin in the NBA after this game. I really appreciate growing up in the 80's and watching Magic and Bird.

No way dog... the reason Larry dominated everyone is because many thought the same thing you do. Fundamentals make you great. The real bball lovers know this is why MJ was so dominant also, master of all the fundamentals.

Bird doesn't look good here at all even though he's playing against guys that are 2 or 3 years younger than him. I think the weak MVC and the Celtics system made Bird a star where he would have been average for the Big Ten or on the Nuggets for instance.
nope. larry was one of the best to ever play the game. u can watch other vids and hes makin outstanding shot just to AMUSE himself. the game was just like a mess around game to him and he would still dominate everyone.
PISTOL PETE MARAVICH WAS THE GREATEST BASKETBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME...Pistol averaged a 'STAGGERING' 44.2 Points per game while at LSU with NO THREE POINT LINE. It was calculated by ex-great LSU coach Dale Brown, that Maravich would have averaged 57 points per game with the benefit of a college three-point line..In the Pros, he was the ONLY player on his team and still won the NBA scoring title..You a non believer? Just type this in here on YOUTUBE: pistol 68 point game shot-by-shot

3:03, Bird would never have the ball stolen like that a few years later. He is still not as coordinated as he would later become.

On another thought, wasn't Indiana State a #1 seed? and Michigan State was a #2 seed? Why is Michigan State wearing their home whites.
SFFOOL76 3 years ago
I know the NCAA is here to make money, however an arena like the HUNSTMANN CENTER is PERFECT for a championship, a decent sized crowd that is loud.
