  • Great video! Clear, concise and full of good info. Thanks for posting and keep 'em coming!

  • Thank you Friend! This is great video as well as great oil change technique!

  • note to self...wear gloves.

  • Where did you get the OEM ducati filter, crush washers for drain bolt and screen?

  • I'm probably going to get a monster soon, gonna take care of her myself so these videos are really helpful (:

  • like

  • Yes i did everything that you said but it also has a hard time starting sometimes with low fuel and leaks then. Do you have the same problem????

  • Hey dude i have a problem with my filter it leaks how can i stop that i tightened it hand tight but it still leaks

    plz help thanks

  • @mike148r You'll probably have to redo that oil change. :( Make sure:

    1) you are using the right filter, probably so, since Ducati really have only one filter, I think

    2) Clean the filter mount on the engine with rag so that no dirt can get between your filter seal and the mount surface.

    3) Did you oil the O ring on the filter before you twist it on? Dry seal could cause some leak.

That's all I can think of. Good luck.

  • Hi all,

I have a 2011 monster and i the 10mm drain plug dont seem to be there! Is the drain plug the one below the oil screen plug??

  • @Deadpoetic6 Sorry I'm not sure what the new 2011 model looks like. But there should be some sort of plug at the lowest point of the engine case. May not take a 10mm allen key, but may take something else. Good luck.

  • @Deadpoetic6 Actually one more person commented:

"FYI everyone, on the 2010 they changed the drain plug. Its a 12 mm bolt with a 5mm Allen head. Even easier to strip! Could not find a torque value. Even my dealer had no clue. Tight is good I guess."

    So look for that. :)

  • @slntdth42 thats cuz youre not supposed to torque it down better to strip the head of the bolt then then oil pans threads. its like 6-8 ft lbs

  • Thank you for a great video. 10mm, 14mm allen socket. -Off to Sears!!!

  • I watch this every time I change the oil in my 696. Great job. You are what makes YouTube great!

  • Bel video

  • The video its great I give you a 10, but that aaaa...aaaa....aaaa....aaa.. its driving me crazy...

  • FYI everyone, on the 2010 they changed the drain plug. Its a 12 mm bolt with a 5mm Allen head. Even easier to strip! Could not find a torque value. Even my dealer had no clue. Tight is good I guess.

  • Thanks! Doing my first oil change this spring!

  • Thanks for the video. I have a 2011 Monster 696 thats due. The dealer has long wait for oil change so thanks to your vid I will do it myself.

If you ever change out your battery please post a video. Thanks. James (Lakeland FL.)

  • have you ordered crush washers online?

  • @camatt2989 Look up cacycle they have the crush washers but not listed online. Call in for them, $1 a washer.

  • Great details on your vids...love them. Would you have time to do a vid on how to install the Termig. slip on you have? I am waiting for my M796 to arrive Thailand.

  • I respect the way you care for your bike. I noticed your frame sliders. What brand are they and where did you buy them. PLEASE keep sending out the great 696 videos.

  • Great video... very helpfull

Here in Brazil i can't find the oil filter or the o-ring seal.

You know any store that sell these products to Brazil? My Monster is with 500km and i realy need..

  • nice video, your oil is really clear, i really dont think u need an oil change

  • @rejneesh It is the first oil change as per schedule (600 miles / 1000km). This is a must do maint item, mainly to clean out the majority of the break-in debris (metal shavings) from the oil.

  • @slntdth42 Since it was the first 1000km oil change how did you get rid of the service signal light? I had to ride my to the dealer to turn off that signal light.

  • What viscosity is better for ducati 696?

  • What size torque wrench does the Duc require?

  • thanks man !! good video helpful

  • Great video, very helpful!

Did you notice your old filter was taller than the new (replacement) filter?

Also, the manual should say 3.1 litres not 3.1 quarts. Small difference. Never get the full 3.1 litres in there anyway...2.5 to 2.8 litres is about all it will take (due to residual oil?).

  • @88wingnut

Mmm... IIRC filters were identical. There's only one filter model Ducati use I believe. And I wouldn't worry abt the oil amount unless the difference is > 0.5 L. Just make sure it's at about the right level when you check the oil window.

  • @slntdth42 great video, but if you just back and forth, the new filter is easily seen to be smaller. keep up the good videos!

  • Check my new video on how to install fender eliminator.

  • Highly - critically advise to always fill oil filter with oil before installation. If not, you're subjecting engine to a dry start and operation........ It takes about 15 plus seconds for the filter to charge before it begins to feed the engine starting with the bearings and further up into the cam and valve networks, etc.........., another 5 seconds or so. Do the math, that's 15 plus to 20 seconds plus of dry operation. Not a good thing.

  • Very nice, thanks for taking the time to film and post it!

  • Awesome! Used this today to complete my oil change. Great work - really appreciate it.

  • Thanks a million! I'm doing my first oil change on my Monster today, and found this invaluable -- cheers! Good riding.

  • Great video!!

  • Well done!

  • Well recorded (good light and angles) and edited video. Great job.

  • This is a GREAT video. Thank you very much for sharing it with us.

  • The service symbol needs to be cleared by your dealer. I don't know of any other way.

Hex keys were 10 and 14mm. It's also mentioned in the video. :) All Ducatis use the same oil filter. The wrench can be purchased online, just Google for 'Ducati Filter Wrench'. Alternatively eBay got them for sale, too.

  • I used this video to do my first oil change on my 696 but is there a way to get rid of the little wrench symbol next to the speedometer the indicates time for service?

  • Where can I find the washers for a 848? Is the process similar? Can you advise....

  • Second 'filter' is a screen to keep metal particles from entering the oil pump. It just needs to be cleaned once in a while. But it's so easy to do that I would just do it every oil change anyway.

  • was this just for the engine oil??? I mean, what was the second filter for, I thought all you need to do is replace oil filter at the bottom(the black thing that looks like a can)???

  • Fantastic video! You make it look trivial :) Well appreciated.

  • Great Video, just finished changing the oil for the first time on my 696

  • very interesting and helpfull! thank so much!

  • Crush aluminum washer deformed slightly when torqued down to provide good seal. It's probably can be reuse once or twice, but since they costs $1 a piece, there's no good reason to risk leaking to save 2 bucks.

  • why did you replace the washers? is it required or did you do it just to be safe?

  • Awesome! Thanks for the video. I've been wanting to change my oil on my own and now I know how to do it. I lost my manual but what is the recommended amount of oil that should be put in? Also what oil weight should be used?

  • The service manual says 3.1 Qt. I used a little less than 3 Qt. So I think buying 3 Qt should suffice.

Make sure you use motorcycle-specific oil. Automobile oil has friction modifier that doesn't work well with wet-clutch on the 696. I use full synthetic 10W-50 but 10W-40 or 15W-40 or 15W-50 will all work just fine.

  • bravissimo !!!!!!!! veramente utile

  • That's the factory termi kit (+race ECU and air filter). And yes, I love the sound. :)

  • very naice video

please what exhausts is your monster wearing?

  • very helpfull and very clear!

Let's change my monster's oil for the first time now.... well, not exactly now, it's a little late evening, but... this weekend, old oil you're dead!

    ;)

  • Very helpful video! Thanks
