  • 3:38 Spock is a bit sleepy

  • wow okay our are alot nicer in montreal

  • Atleast your subway trains dont scrape against the tunnel walls like our Scottish ones. Produces a good lightshow of sparks though.

  • I wonder why they have the American flag on every subway car...maybe it's to remind people what country they're in.

  • @aeronuk1 That would be kind of sad if you had to remind people where they were, especially in one of the most well known cities in the world. The flag is there to show the MTA's pride in our country.

  • Comment removed

  • @aeronuk1 Same reason that you see the Maple Leaf everywhere in Canada, or the German colors in Germany. It's a symbol of America. Especially in New York post-9/11.

  • aww looks really old and dirty.. don't maintanance workers take care of the trains and stations?!

  • @Soyosan22 Depends how you look at it. It's still New York, but it doesn't look nearly as bad as it did in the mid 80s.

  • this vid is the best

  • very old

  • I just moved to NYC and the subway is incredible. Although i cant read the subway map, its too confusing :S

  • really good,i can tell you took caution filming, but i got the feeling aboutt taking a ride on it.

it isnt much different to riding a metro in amsterdam, netherlands, all kinds of people and a lot of noise

  • are there always so many vacant seats in the cars? cause in Moscow you have to stand a lot, becuz it's often overcrowded

  • Depends when and where you go.

  • @Stan2151 deff depends on the time.

  • wow! It's a quiet subway! Have you been to the London's? It's not as quiet as this one!

  • I've never been outside the US.

  • I only take the 3 & R train :]

  • and sometimes C

  • 1 train FTW!!!

  • Ah, the subway. Me and my friend take it a lot, usually the R to get home from school lol. I take it so much lol, and I'm only 13, lol practically every NYC kid has taken it by demselves at one point.

  • LOL I've never been on it in my life. My friend took this video. I live in this boring state they call Florida. Someday I'll ride the subway.

  • subway sucks;)

  • @murjax i live in this boring state called maine check out my channel i am a yankies fan and i luv ny but i am surrounded by red sox fans

  • OMG... I'm italian and I'm 16yo... I love ur city soo much...

    Lucky you to live there...

  • aren't they supposed to have graffitis all over them :D

  • If you live in the year 1981 they are.

  • 1989

  • That was one ill video, B!!!!

  • i see rats everyday , expecially if your waiting for a train just look down on the tracks there runnin shit down there with the ninja turtles the Rat king

  • Now the MTA wants to raise the fares. I haven't seen ridership decrease. And why should people pay more if the MTA will cut service as opposed to improving it. There needs to be an investigation started since their appears to be 2 sets of books, and one of them is being cooked by crooks.

  • Hey playa what's the fares on MTA, Here Chi-town the CTA fares bus are $2.25. and the trains are $2.50 as for transfer is .25 each that's about $2.50 on the bus and the Trains $2.75

  • @Northsidze 2.25 for both subway and bus, with free transfers.

    express buses are 5.50.

  • @Northsidze Single rides are $2.25 for subways and buses and subway transfers are free, except for the PATH trains, which are $1.75 for a single ride. You can also get unlimited weekly ($29) and monthly ($104) metrocards that are good for subway and bus rides.

  • I HEART the subway. Especially the f and g trains.

  • NYC subway is very confusing

  • lol yah

  • Oh ok i dont know this stuff i live in Canada so.... well what about Harlem isnt that bad?

  • Yeah, they are. Forgot about them LOL.

  • please any new yorker please message me.. how clean is new york. how often dou see rats. and do u see rats or mice in an average apartment

  • I don't live in New York so I wouldn't know. My friend took this video. I doubt that rats are much of a problem though. Just live in a regular middle class area, not a ghetto where you would expect them.

  • I live in nyc, and the average apartment doesnt really have any rats. But if you live in the poorer areas, or in like a tenement/renting-apartment, then yea, there are rats. but mostly, i don't see any rates. there are certainly no rats in my apartment. :]

  • wheres all the gangsters isnt new york city gangster city or is that L.A

  • Nah that's Brooklyn and Queens. This was taken in Manhattan.

  • actually every boro has an area of "gangsters"

primarily around any projects or city housing.

and yes there are plenty in manhattan

and by gangster I mean thug looking

  • Oh my Godness...wish I could be there..i miss the city a lot!! so enjoy your ride..! Have a nice Day.....who knows what happen in that place every day....! :)

  • really different from beijing subway

  • Riding subway in New York City is really fun.

  • with subways like this - who needs a car?

  • That's why more cities need them.

  • That's one of the things I love about living and having grown up in New York.

  • your lucky you still live still i was born in newyork to but my dumb parents made us move to florida and i hate it here lol i would do anything to go back.

  • fuck cars! ny subway is real.

  • here's a solution, don't take them

  • Ok suit yourself. I hope you don't love paying the hundreds of dollars of gas per month because the gas free car doesn't look like it's coming in the near future.

  • i remember always riding the A train to my final stop in Isham

  • i remember when i used to live in queens i love when the doors open and makes the sound

  • damn i miss brooklyn

  • i would to if i would ever leave it

  • I love the shinkansen in tokyo, the Japanese High Speed (Bullet) Trains .

  • I love NY!

the subway is awesome, you don't need to drive really in NY! so cool

  • I wish more places in the world were like that. Imagine if you didn't have to drive anywhere! Just hop on the train and go wherever you please. :D

  • same here..

Well in most of the world, subways, metros, and light rails are very popular but still here in the US it's rarely used.. I'm actually happy that gas prices are going up so they will encourage the government to develop more public transit

  • The only problem is the government is going to give us a low quality system and we're going to be taxed for it. What I think we need is a private company to run it. Back when railroading ruled the economy, the majority of the money for passenger rail came from freight and the rest from passengers themselves. The reason this eventually failed was because of old, failing equipment and the operation of too many non-profitable lines.

  • Good analysis..

I lived in Europe before and I was surprised how good public transportation is. Trains run from everywhere and they're actually good and organized.

  • Well in Europe, they tax you unbelivably high, but then give you a ton of free stuff, (including free college in some cases) and they also use that money to build grand transportation systems.

  • I love new york

  • miss new york

  • Great video

    also check out

    BlackDogHat

music video filmed in New York

  • these trains are not as fun as the ones i shot on video in bombay india heh. you get to hang out of the doors!

  • "Stand clear of the closing doors, please!" I miss the recorded voice on this video! ;)

  • new york subways system...best in world thats why named it nyc twice lol

  • So true lol.

  • commander youre stupid. theres things called METROCARDS! U USE THEM TO GET INTO THE STATIONS FOR THE MTA!!!! 2 BUCKS A SWIPE OF THE CARD!

  • You obviously didn't see the comment where he said he was from Perth, Australia.

  • Is NY subway the best in the US? Isn't it arguable that the BART in San Francisco is pretty amazing too.

  • Other subway services in the US may be better as far as looks, but they certainly do not provide the service that NY does. NY has a much bigger system than other systems. NY's subway keeps the city thriving.

  • Yeah NYC subway is very extensive. The only systems that I believe that are on par with NYC in the WORLD are Tokyo, London, and I believe Moscow. But no system in the US is as extensive as NYC. However, that doesn't mean there are bad ones either. Washington , Chicago, and San Francisco has great systems themselves.

  • I agree. Washington, Chicago and San Fancisco aren't nearly as busy as NY though so they don't need as big a system.

  • D.C is the second busiest in the country. 800,000 daily.

  • DC's subway is AWESOME!

  • It's called the METRO!

  • Yeah, I know. I've gone through Union Station many times, so I know very well it's called Metro. I just called it a subway so people would know what I'm talking about lol.

  • Good idea, because in New York, we NEVER ours the metro.

  • i love the high pitch whistle they make before they move

  • Me too.

  • lol. someone in dat video looks like me. Lol

  • Who cares? A lot of people look like somebody.

  • Nice movie.

A lot memories of NYC trip last year.

    With Regards from Amsterdam

  • I've found that the NY subway system is the most organised and on-time subway that travels incredibly fast. The London Tube was good too, except they weren't nearly as efficient and they feel like an oven in the summertime. Incredibly hot!

  • That's the most important part of any transportation system. It must be organized, on-time and reasonably comfortable.

  • paris metro is better than london underground far better

  • Is it operated/funded by the government?

  • Wow When I went To new york I couldent Go in the Subways. Great Video

  • london underground is waaay betr than anywhere else!

  • no they not

  • The Tube is cool, but the NYC Subway is cooler...and a lot safer these days.

  • kinda look like the LA subways.

  • Except NY's subways are much cooler and plus they have a much bigger system than LA. Not to mention efficient commuter lines from all directions to go along with them. I love the New York Tri-State area. :D

  • well ya lol Im just saying they have some similarities

  • Wow. It was a comment. Why not just watch the video, let people enjoy it, and shut your fucking mouth pussy.

  • compare new yorks subway with moscows or londons subway lol ^^ new yorks look like a piece of shit

  • Which is why I wish public transit in the US would go back into the hands of private companies. They can make things like improvements on their systems. The government only gives what's "neccessary". :(

  • If private enterprise had a hand in the NYC Subway, the fare would be $5-10 and they would be cutting a lot of corners, like the chav and hoodie-infested Tube in London.

  • LOL. Have you even used it?

  • anyone who know can you please tell me how "safe" it is to ride the subways?

  • Very safe. I think the last real train accident happened in 1995 or so but you do occasionally have train malfunctions in which the train is evacuated. Nothing serious though.

  • oh what about getting jumped or beat up on or in the subway? lol i plan to go visit new york so i wanna be aware of these things.

  • Just travel in the areas regular middle class people travel and travel when they travel. This means try to stay in Manhattan and don't travel on the subway at 2 AM.

  • haha. thanks.

  • There are plenty of "middle class" and above people on the subway at 2am or later...certainly in Manhattan..and even some that late in Brooklyn and Queens. I take the subway outside Manhattan all the time when I visit...even late at night.

  • There are plenty of "middle class" and above people on the subway at 2am or later...certainly in Manhattan..and even some that late in Brooklyn and Queens. I take the subway outside Manhattan all the time when I visit...even late at night.

  • Don't go in the Subway at night when its really late. Its very shady. Take a cab or even walk but I'd never take the Subway late at night alone.

  • Well, honestly, as u r right, that the subway at night is not very safe, i remember one night, i was heading to 42nd, and just having fun when these drunk kids (obviously from the burbs.) started acting crazy on the plat. then, these adults were just jumping around laughing about some show. The subways at night are sometimes not full, but not always safe.

  • The NYC Subway is pretty damn safe even late at night..certainly in midtown/downtown Manhattan. Whenever I visit NYC I take the subway at all hours routinely and have never had problems. You can sit in the middle "conductor" car late at night if you feel unsafe.

  • I'm talking like 2 or 3 in the morning, like heading back to hotels from the clubs. From a young women's perspective, it can be shady.

  • The MTA are the most corrupt transportation organization ever created. Two dollars to ride on this metal hunk of shit

  • I really can't blame the MTA for the problems they have. They are funded by the government which means that they only get "necessary" money to keep them in operation. They only make upgrades when it's "necessary". This is why I think transportation needs to go back in the hands of the privately owned companies. In the meantime though, I think Amtrak, NJ Transit and Metro-North are excellent systems considering their circumstances.

  • They have to pay for the upkeep of the trains and stations somehow. Two dollars is nothing compared to the 2.50 we pay here in california and we have a smaller transit system then newyork.

  • Why do none of the trains actually reach significant speed?

  • I'm not sure why but a possablity might be the fact that the stations are so close together. ;)

  • The stations in Paris are just as close together, if not closer yet it doesn't do this. No time is wasted!

  • Maybe New York has more rail traffic than Paris.

  • Wrong again. Paris has trains coming every 1min 40 secs in the peak hours. 2-3 mins outside of the peaks. Moscow, London and Tokyo (the other big metro systems) are all significantly faster as well as having shorter headways.

  • I bet they use extreamly high dispatching techonlogy over there. I believe the NY subway has to keep a distance of at least a mile or more apart between trains so they don't risk collisions. Why doesn't the MTA upgrade then you might ask? It's city funded. That means minimal care for the trains. If some company actually owned the NY subway like I believe they used to, then more care would be put into them.

  • Paris, and Moscow are both state funded. London is semi-private (infastructure is maintained by private companies, it is run by a public company) and half of the Tokyo Metro/Subway is private, the other isn't! I'm not slagging off the NY subway, it's express service and 24 hour service is very good!

  • Well I bet France and Russia are in a better economic state and therefore can afford to put more money in public transit. The US is big and money is put into so many other things. Private companies used to be in charge of transit in this country. It was much better then. Nowadays, (aside from planes which are failing BTW) public transit is all city/state/federally funded and is much poorer than it used to be.

  • It's nothing to do with the state of their economies it's how money is spent... And this technology I was talking about is not "highly advanced" it's been in place for 40 years for god sakes...

  • The money is being spent in the wrong places. Too much money is being put in the road systems that are going to fail as population rises. You can only make them so big. Don't be surpized if the 40 year old techonlogy you speak of isn't in place due to this useless moneywasting.

  • It's the same in Britain too, but not as bad. Sometimes I think America is a bit like Britain but turned up a few notches (about 100...) Spending money on cars which run on finite substances is just stupid.

  • I agree.

  • does anyone recomend the subway system i will be new to the subway.

  • The subway is by far the best way to get around New York. It's much better than being stuck in the traffic jam above and saves you walking time.

  • I heard Patrick Stewart interviewed on the radio the other day. He's in town doing Macbeth somewhere. He said he rides the subway all the time because he supports public transportation. Nobody ever recognizes him. Just a guy going to work.

  • The cars on the subway aren't designed for routine crossing of cars while the train is moving. You could do it, but you risk falling and can be fined for doing so.

  • Hey um, just wondering... can a person go from one car to next?

  • I think so. I'm not sure though.

  • before 9/11 happen yeah they use to let us but now only during attacks...BUT people still move from cart to cart and Some even get tickets SMH

  • What on Earth does moving from one car to another have anything to do with the possablity of getting attacked by terrorists? How is it a "terrorist threat"?

  • do you live here?? I have NO clue we as new yorkers ask that as well...all we know is that is a new law and if you dont want a ticket dont move while it is in motion...(of course you can move when the train stops but you do have to get off the cart that your in...and run to the next)

  • No, I don't live there. I've never actually been on the subway (My friend took this video) but I have been on many other trains such as Amtrak, Metro North and Connecticut's Shore Line East. You can move freely between cars in those trains. Obviously there is probably more of a threat to subways than commuter rails but I still don't understand the issue with moving between cars.

  • It's stupid, if anything it'll help a terrorist, place a bomb in the car and any of the injured are screwed. Paramedics will take a while to get there, and it'd be difficult trying to force open one of those doors if half your arm's gone!

  • I heard that they stopped allowing movement between the end doors of cars (Dec. 2005) because there were some successful lawsuits by people who got hurt doing that. I guess it is dark and more cramped between these cars as compared to regular trains. No handles and the floor plates sliding past one another, sometimes violently, in the dark. Anyway, I think it's safety/lawsuits, not terrorism.

  • it cost 2.00

  • Muito engraçado!!! Mas prefiro o meu de lisboa, portugal!!!loooool

  • English please.

  • Hey Spainish is COOL here. Any one can post! Like english the only language around??

  • That's not my point. Not everyone can understand Spanish and yes, English is the most popular language in the modern world and is the language prefered by most Youtubers. ;)

  • I love the subway and I love all the dirt and grime that comes with it. It isnt a dump on wheels, the chairs are sit-able. But if it were clean and pristine it just wouldn't be New York's Subway. The subway is what keeps NY alive 24/7; I dont know how I could possibly live here without it.

  • Wow-I love the subway too! I lived in NYC for 1 year. I MISS IT!! To me it isant even really gritty! For what it is and how old it is, and how many it moves....I THINK THEY DO A GREAT JOB of keepiing it rolling. The little bit of dirt and grim just adds to the ambeince and the aura. Come on every one --Just look at all of the industrial structural steel. The framing, the columns, The GLEAMING stainless steel and fiber glass. It all looks greta to me too!

  • The noise and whir of the electric motors, the accelaration. Just think about most of it is over 80 to 100 years old and still looks practically MINT! The seats are more then sittable-they look pretty good. and their are plenty of them, You can usually get a seat with no problem. All of the row after row of movement as the stair cases and ceiling lighting flies by--ITS ALL ART WORK. Then on top of that you can buy chips and drinks underground and a paper or magazine if you even want too!!

  • Another GREAT thing about the NYC system. Its like really impossible to get lost (like you CANT get lost) everything is well signed with bright crisp signage. And every station has a system map. Its all color coded...so you CANNOT get lost--even if you wanted to,(like just "get lost exploring") you cant LOL

  • Cool video. How much cost ny-subway ticket?

  • I think it might be a dollar or less. I'm not exactly sure. I've never actually been on the subway myself.

  • its actually 2$ per ride.

  • The best deal is the 30 day metro pass. you can ride all day all over, all the time, any bus any train. Its $72.00 (in 2005)Best part about it is the pass is good only as soon as you swipe the first ride. Unlike some of these other dumb cities with their "monthly passes" where you have to wait for the month to start before you can buy it and use it. I miss NYC--I might move back!! (I would really like to)

  • Thanks. Is it possibly take a ride without ticket? ;)

  • Well yes you can. But it is really not advisable. If they catch you, you may get a citation or maybe arrested? I really do not know their policy. Ive seen people "sneak" on the system. Ive watched them just to observe what took place. You have to bend down and sneak under the turn stiles.

  • Riding without a ticket means the operators will not receive the revenue they deserve, and everyone who rides the subways in NY will suffer because the network will have less maintenance and upgrades.

  • Ohh and also E Train gets so crowded during rush hour and still they won't increase its frequency. Its like everyone is getting crushed inside. You never get to seat even if you are getting on the train from the first stop. They tell us that frequency of E Trains during rush hour is every 3 min but you won't see a train for the next 15 min and when it comes you can't get on because its packed!

  • NY Subway sucks big time. I take it everyday and there are delays everyday. All carts of the trains are unwashed and stinky. It will make an hour long ride 1.5 hours just because of poor management and the stations are not maintained, leaky and stinky. I quit taking E trains just because of homeless people in it.

  • NY subway is eerie, but i like it's atmosphere.

  • i love the crappy subway of NY... makes me feel like the city is for people & living..

  • I really don't mind the dirt in the subway. The trains themselves are just fine.

  • The transit system in Washington, DC is also cleaner. The reason for that is because they are extreamly strict. They don't allow you to eat on their trains. It really depends on how much or if a city can afford to clean and maintain a good transit system.

  • i wish glasgow had a subway like NY, paris and london

its like the east end of glasgow and north glasgow dont exist.

the buses in glasgow are a joke.

  • I think all buses in major metropolitan areas are a joke. There's too much traffic keeping them from being useful. That's what the trains are for. Trains don't deal with the mess on the roads.

  • its like maybe 8 times out of 10 the buses are either early or late.

you need to leave that bit early in the morning to catch the bus. worst part is they are always overcrowded and most times the driver cant stop cause they are overcrowded.

the glasgow subway is a joke cause like i said it only covers the city centre, west end and south side. so if i am going from barlanark in the east end to lets say govan in the south side it takes me over an hour to get there.

  • Go to the New York area and the trains will get you from one area to another really fast. No nonsense to deal there. ;)

  • SPT need to get their act together and get the people a better system. cause at the moment its just not good enough.
