In this case I would use untreated wood, that is not dangerous for your guinea pigs. Do you plan a movie or documentation? I would love to see this :-) Good luck for your project.

Guinea pigs in their natural environment are used to move and run a lot.

They spend much time to search food. They don't find their food in a bowl like pets. The walls of the labyrinth simulate the grass, were they can hide and search some food. It prevents them from getting overweighted, depressed and sick.

It's like that, what they are doing at the zoo. They hide the food and keep the animals busy. They found out that these animals are less sick.

I hope you understand our point of view :)
