Vietnamese pate is not the same as the French pate that we know of. Vietnamese pate contains lots of coarse crushed black pepper, minced garlic and shallot and many street vendors also add bread crumbs as a filler for economic reason. The black pepper, garlic and shallot gives the Vietnamese pate a distinctive fragrance and taste.

If you could point me to articles about pho that is better than lovingpho-dot-com and wiki, I will be happy to read it. From my sources: The dish Pho is pure Vietnamese. The pho noodle itself though is Chinese, and the beef flank, briskets, and stock is all French.
Banh Mi has a dual meaning in commoner Viet Lingo. It means both bread and a sandwich. Just like Pho means both a noodle and beef noodle soup with all the fixings. If you want Chicken Pho, you have to say "Pho Ga". But just plain Pho means Beef Noodle Soup with all the trimmings.
I wish they'd get it right. "Banh mi" just means bread. They're misinforming y'all with this. If you come here and ask a vendor for "banh mi," the vendor will ask you, "Banh mi gi?" (Bread and what?) Tell him or her "banh mi thit nguoi," and you'll get a sandwich filled with cold cuts. (However, if your pronunciation is bad, you might get a sandwich filled with human flesh. :-D)

Vietnamese pate is not the same as the French pate that we know of. Vietnamese pate contains lots of coarse crushed black pepper, minced garlic and shallot and many street vendors also add bread crumbs as a filler for economic reason. The black pepper, garlic and shallot gives the Vietnamese pate a distinctive fragrance and taste.

I did not say "Pho is French", I just said it is heavily French influenced. Pho is both the name of the noodle, and the name of the dish. I am sure the noodle Pho has been around long before the French. However, the dish Pho we have today is most very different than "pre-French" Pho. For one, Beef was not a heavily consumed commodity until the French came. BTW, I am just quoting Wiki and lovingpho, and the Pho Experts on those sites agree that Pho has heavy French Influence

The pho noodle itself though is Chinese, and the beef flank, briskets, and stock is all French.

Banh Mi has a dual meaning in commoner Viet Lingo. It means both bread and a sandwich. Just like Pho means both a noodle and beef noodle soup with all the fixings. If you want Chicken Pho, you have to say "Pho Ga". But just plain Pho means Beef Noodle Soup with all the trimmings.

Commonly used is the roll
These Dual meanings is just the common slang of Vietnamese
Example the word Eskimo, is known to describe a person living in cold conditions in remote area's
But actually means someone who eats raw meat

I wish they'd get it right. "Banh mi" just means bread. They're misinforming y'all with this. If you come here and ask a vendor for "banh mi," the vendor will ask you, "Banh mi gi?" (Bread and what?) Tell him or her "banh mi thit nguoi," and you'll get a sandwich filled with cold cuts. (However, if your pronunciation is bad, you might get a sandwich filled with human flesh. :-D)
