  • I was a kid when i watched this, we had so many nice movies in the 90s, i miss that time a lot.

  • i've seen this movie one and i don't think i can watch it again. too sad

  • Original author NOSAKA AKIYUKI

It is an adaptation of the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by Akiyuki Nosaka, intended as a personal apology to the author's own sister.

    wiki/Akiyuki_Nosaka

    wiki/Grave_of_the_Fireflies

  • A good movie I cant see again :'( It's to sad<3

I cry when I see these clip :'(

  • Amazing movie, but extremely sad!

  • omg... is it real and gotf TOGETHER!! SO MOVING!!!

  • If you think this is sad, you need to know that this is based on the author's own experiences and as such, as close to reality as possible.

  • fuck the motherfuckers who disliked this movie. FUCK THEM!!!!

  • i cried for the 2nd time after watching this amv. the first time i cried while watching the movie today. it was the first time a movie moved me to tears. i love my small sister

  • I have never cried so much, while watching a movie. Everyone in the world NEEDS to watch this movie! It is truly beautiful.

  • I understand with the 'Is it real?'

If I were him, I would asked the same thing. .

Living in a hard times, yet your loved one, gone before your very eyes. . I would cry out loud!!!! I don't care what other people said!! I could not accept the reality!! People who'd not accept this movie, YOU'RE HEARTLESS

  • no war~!

  • i was crying till the end of the movie, it's touching. although the insane Japanese did the cruel cruel cruel things to the Chinese years ago.

  • hopelessly calling in the night, grief for the deceases, grief for the future. "figuring falls like leaves" is it supposedly a common sight. a sight that anyone deserve to see, let alone be in one.

  • this made me cry ;.;

  • this is one of the saddest movie i have ever seen! thiss made me cry a lot! and im a man! i just cant hide my emotion with this movie! i hope US will remake this!

  • i just cried a lot....

  • 悲しいお話です

    泣きました

  • this is an amazing video, but the song Caregiver by Memoryhouse goes perfect with it. wait 11 seconds into the video then play the song.

  • grt grt very grt amv, this video brought back the memories of this movie i again cried a lot...i wish i could help these needy ones...

  • i just watch the whole movie.. cant bear to watch it again it very hard breaking..

  • such a sad movie!

  • Grave of the Fireflies, the saddest movie you can find, and the saddest fact is, this is all real. People lost lives, houses, sisters, and hope after the bombing in Japan. Not just japan, it can go with every nation that has been in the War Zone, and gotten bombed. This is an after effect of war, and it is something we should all learn from. War isn't the answer, it just creates more death and then death brings revenge, and starts the cycle all over again. War, no one wins, both sides lose.

  • @dashigara12 I agree with you 100%. War needs to become a thing of the past. Violence is never the answer.

  • I cried in less than a minute through this video. It's so sad.

  • @Fotographing Hi, have you actually seen the film ? If not, I recommend you do so. It is a great lesson of humanity for us all out there.

  • @N4GINI I've attempted to watch Grave of the Fireflies many times before. I've only ever gotten through half of the film. It's too sad for me to watch.

  • This is the same group that did "Tank!" isn't it?

  • @MrThat0neperson Yes the Seatbelts also did Tank!, The vocalist on this song is Scott Matthew, He also sings Lithium Flower.

  • @Cobac news flash!! all AMVs are spoilers! duh :)

  • You guys are missing the whole point. Yes, this is not about the anti-war but that is half of it. We, Japanese are not blaming anybody or teaching who's good or evil. My father in Japan shown me this anime to made me decide which emotion I choose when I was a child. First it was anger but now I understand. It is about respect. Respect about my grandparents who have gone through this situation and also the respect of the humankind. Because we are all human; we cry, we ache, we laugh, and we die.

  • this movie almost made cry setsuko then thinking of everything seita went through and i just the live action version its a bit different

  • this movie almost made cry setsuko

  • this movie almost made cry

  • the face of the mom after being burned has haunted me since....This movie is really powerful, and everyone should see it at least once

  • @quasimojo8 when it showed the mom i had to end up looking away, even know you couldnt see much and it was just a drawing,it still looked sore and scary

  • so sad...a very touching video...

  • WTF?

  • awww shit

  • People who have started wars are pathetic little cowards.

  • I hate wars.

  • These war movies always make you think and cry to yourself. And we think "have we really been reduced to dropping goddamn bombs on innocent nations? Do we really resolve to violence? Is this the first idea we have come up with?" It really makes you think how much the human race needs to think about things.

  • i watched this movie twice, and both times i cried my face off T_T

war isnt needed in the modern society. we humans got better things to argue with than with gun or a knife... its called mouth.

  • @Rainelfy And what if we argue too much?

  • one thing i learnt from this movie thank god for the life i am having not perfect but i really know it now my life is far better than others lets thank god for the life he gave us

  • This was such a good movie. I loved it. It was so very sad.

  • This movie will make you never ever want to here the word "war" agian

  • i love this song and grave of the fireflies... i always bloody cry in this :( its so sad... the non anime version is uber sad but more explanitory <3 i love it bever gets old! wonderful meaning

  • I've watched tons of Grave of the fireflies AMV's so far. Their all moving, and touching. But i think this one beats them all. AMAZING job.

  • I can't really think of anything more unpleasant to watch than this it really makes you think about how stupid the human race is

  • I think this is like the only video with this song by SeatBelts. I can't find it anywhere else. >_<

    Such an amazing film.

  • Hello, your amv is absoulutely stunning and pays great tribute to this amazing film. I have featured your amv as part of my studio ghibli month on my anime blog. Full credit has been given I just found this is one of the best grave amv's out there and would like to share it with others :')

  • @JaneyBaby07 thank you very much. can i get a link to your blog? :)

  • @deoson of course you can :)

  • one of the saddest movies ever

first time i saw it i cried like the

    clouds do when it rains

  • Scott Matthew

  • Aw man, that really broke my heart...

  • @Scott97169 CRAPPY! it is not! the animation is brilliant!

  • such a heavy feeling in my heart

  • when the girl was about to die

    i started crying mad hard.

  • Is this song for the American version of the movie? BTW. Saddest movie I've ever seen so far. Love it and I think I'll never watch this again. The first few seconds of the movie already set the tone. Had my tears come down already.

  • this movie was so sad especially the part when he said "she never woke up" and when they burned her body she was just a little girl T-T the boy never cried i think they shoulv've put more of that that would've of made it sadder becus wen someone dead it was like watever no one cried

  • @C00kiii3 I think that just made it sadder i watched the live action version too and there he cried when she died but it felt sadder in this version where he didn't.....

  • @C00kiii3 He has seen way too much death and sadness... He was in shock you could say.

  • I wonder why everyone thinks that muslims are terrosits? maybe it's the americans who first interfered with the muslims and oppressesd them and the muslims probably want to defend they're land.. no one thinks that way

  • I'm crying!

You know what's even sadder than this movie ... all the people commenting on this and arguing over a war that happened so many years ago and what it has to do with this movie.

Well, you know what I think this movie's about: It's about an older brother who lost his little sister - only family member - because of a situation that wasn't his fault and was beyond his control. Who started the war, or if the movie's even about the war is irrelevant!

    DAMN IT!!! I crying again!

  • The best movie you'll never want to watch again.

  • @jurisprudence1972 lol. no doubt agree wif u... my heart still turn sour even looking at the description of the movie...

  • just to say this isn't a film made to poke blame at anyone for the war.

It was a book written by a brother who wanted to appologise to his sister. I think we should all respect that it wasn't made to be about a war thats just when and where it happened.

The sad truth is this stuff happens every day and is not always necessarily to do with war but the way the world is now.

  • It's about the effect of war so don't say Japanese people are stupid

  • I am gonna watch this movie with my bf today at night, and really i can not wait to watch it with him, because it is gonna help to open our eyes, and see that there outside they are people who is really suffering than just a simple long distance relationship (as we are passing through now).

Amazing movie always cry when i watch it!

  • When I saw the movie and when Seito's little sister died it made me cry a lot...

She was so hungry n while other ppl now just waste food...

They should give at least a little bit to the less unfortunate .. Don't u agree?

  • this film isnt about whos responsible, its about the fact that all war is futile and the only people that get hurt are the *innocents* when the ones whose war it really is are fine, and how they expect their people to fight for them when they do nothing for their people. it happens in every country, in every war.

  • I blame the aunt she was getting cold at the kids then look what happened to Setsuko

  • Actually this story was based on a true story escept the brother doesnt die

  • i'm crying againnnnnnn ;(

  • I love this movie it is SO sad though!

  • one of the greatest movies ever

  • A good story. :3

  • this movie doesnt blame US or any other country for what happened.

Stop this ugly discussion about war blaming each other.

That would be the last thing the author would want to hear from people who watched his film.

  • This is a sad story, no one deserve to have their life taken in a bloody war, the culprit is the one who advocated for the war, damn!

  • The whole world should see this film.

  • what?

  • How many countries do you think America has invaded? Do you know how many countries have American occupation right now? Something like sixty. But that's really not the fucking point of this story, you obviously don't get it.

  • This movie is anti-war, and it is not anti-USA.

This author lost a younger sister for malnutrition in the same way.

There was a lot of war orphans in those days in Japan.

  • @sunearth10 Yes. Anyone can create war and be evil. No single person is at fault. No single nation is at fault. For anything. It's human nature and it sucks. War sucks.

  • @sunearth10 bioagerphy right?

using anime to pull in a rounded crowd as well as the live action one to

pull in ones that don't like anime, but all in all the movie is powerful.

  • everyone one is accountable for their actions and everyone has a choice; no matter what the stakes.

  • It's always the innocent who pay for war, isn't it?

  • sadly yes, and many of those wicked folk continue to thrive in a world that works to keep them alive. T.T this was truely a masterpiece and tragic retelling of a terrible time for our world

  • @jurisprudence1972

they will always be the ones to pay the greatest price. :(

  • shut up. you think it was the innocent children or the housewives' fault? the honest men who break their backs trying to feed their families? no. but they had to pay for it, didn't they?

  • fucking mongrel, the japanese didnt even support hitler, most of them didnt even know anything about the ''final solution'' or anything like that because of axis propaganda, bottom line, us was stealing oil and resources from the japanese, and they assaulted pearl harbor, the americas LET THEM assault pearl harbor...remind you of a recent war, the whole country was in fucking ruins for 20 years after ww2 and 4,000,000 people died in fire bombings, besides the nukes

  • I don't think you really understand. There was evil on both sides during the war. Both sides bombed civilians, so millions of innocent people died by the hands of both sides.

  • It makes you think why do we have scientists making bombs.

Einstein regret the day he made the "H" bomb... he for sure have invented the worst enemy of human race.

  • Einstein is responsible for what he does, and his actions were not evil in any way.

  • He said "You must not let there become a nuclear monopoly" I guess he wasn't so smart after all.

  • Depends on how you define smart, but he had an unusual high IQ.

  • I guess common sense will tell anyone that if you make a new weapon, more powerful than any other, then everyone else will make one.

  • If we're discussing about Einstein's part in this, I honestly don't believe he wanted it to be a weapon. There is nothing wrong about atomic bombs, only the way people view them, and the way people use them.

  • He did sign the go ahead for it to be used on Japan. There's a lot wrong with atomic bombs purely because of how people view them and use them.

  • Did he sigb the go ahead for it to be used on Japan? This is entirely new information for me. I doubt this, but I will check this up.

The worst man was the man dropping the bomb, that's for sure.

  • I don't blame the man dropping the bomb, he was just doing his job. It's the mind behind the attack I can't work out.

  • If you have hundreds of thousands of people you can't say you are excused because it was "just your job to do so".

  • ain't war hell?

  • Nor can I...if Germany or Japan had the bomb instead they would have dropped it on whoever...soldiers do their duty...such is war...

  • dude millions of people died in nagasaki and hiroshima the day you decide you can do your job and drop a bomb and kill millions is the day you become a cold hearted person. Its not the man in the big chair flying the air plane its you, most of those people were innocent n didn't deserve to die... Japan already had most of their resources cut off from blockade n were facing starvation u.s went a little over not destroying one but 2 cities.

  • @XIIIAnthology Actually, it's more like 200,000 deaths in the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Don't exaggerate. It doesn't help anyone, not even the victims.

  • or the power deciding to build it ...

  • ohw, the movie was so sad..

    I've never seen a movie that sad o.o <3

  • dose anyone know the artist who sing this song??

  • seatbelts

  • Comment removed

  • @rosie4422me Scott Matthew. it's a song from cowboy bebop movie

  • this sort of stuff did happen in japan

also the story line is actually from ah japanese singer, he was part of tat war & his sister did die lik tat =(( it's soo sad, bet even if ur miserable, u still gotta cry T^T

  • the first time i saw the movie it was holding back all the time till i was alone...then just break to tears...4 years since then and its still the same result

  • One of Myazaki's best I loved the movie it was so sad

  • It isn't directed by Miyazaki as he was working on My Neighbour Totoro at that time. Grave and Fireflies were made as a double-bill.

  • sad story, just saw it.

  • what are grave of fireflies-

couldnt be bothered to watch the whole vid just looked at the title

  • this movie it looks so sad

  • yeah... it is

  • @igenther99 it is sad... realy sad

  • this embarrassing I just cried now in front of my friends lol . I imagined that happing to my little brother omg . I hate wars why everyone not leave everyone alone lol .

  • Aww you shouldn't be embarrassed over something like that. To cry over something like this movie shows you were profoundly moved by the story. It means you're empathetic and compassionate.

  • wow just with this clip i could not hold my tears

  • Comment removed

  • why would you say that? I haven't seen it yet and you ruined the whole movie for me.

  • Comment removed

  • the impact the movie has on me is ridiculous. just thinking about it sometimes brings me to tears. I want to get some of those fruit drops to put in my room. I think everyone should see it at least once. saddest movie ever made in my opinion.

  • I bought the fruit drops from ebay just to sit on my room...

They just seem too special to eat D:

  • I love this movie

  • D: a very fine film, deserves 3 thumbs up,

(if you have 2 that's ok)

  • E' un bel film, molto profondo e riflessivo. Nello stesso tempo, pero', tristissimo. Dovrebbe essere visto da tutti, specialmente nelle assemble di istituto a scuola. E' importante.

  • I want to watch the non anime one made last year but came out this year i think June 5th or July? I cant find it anywhere =[ but this movie was so amazing never cried some much watching a movie.

  • just type grave of the fireflies live action into the youtube search bar and press enter. someone has uploaded the nonanime version

  • saddest part of the movie for me was when she listed all the thing s she wanted to eat, but sais she would give it all to seita if he would never leave her alone and seita promise just that but right after that he left twice, and the second time she died. god cant imagine how much isao takahata blamed himself for that.

  • o yea u guys know when it showed that little scene of setsuko playing by the shelter right after she died? well most of that was showing how setsuko got fatally sick while he was gone... lookat it again and see how many things she did to get sick... poor baby, she reminds me so much of my 4 year old sister, everytime i watch that movie i see myself as seita and my sis as setsuko. RIP SETSUKO

  • your comment made me cry too.

  • i think the saddest part was when he found the girl eating marbles

  • yea that was really sad 2

  • @knifenewbie456 i thought the saddest part was when seita said"she never woke again..."

  • when i go to the grocery store and see fruit drops shaped or looked like those in the movie i burst into tears.

  • This was hands down the saddest and most depressing movie I have ever saw in my life (Especially since I have a younger sister). It was a great movie though and it really makes you appreciate what you have (Also, that we live in America).

  • First time I watched this movie I have been having random attacks where I would suddenly start crying during school for more than a week. At school they thought I was being abused or something O.O so I had to explain everyone it was this movie... and I'm not exaggerating ._.

  • wow..........thats extreme.

  • indeed

  • I love japan

    I love america

    but i hate war

  • this is what really happens to childeren when there is a war. Why do there have to be wars? (sob).

  • War is old men talking and young men dying. :( There is no sense to it at all.

  • just atching this video made me cry like a baby. i just watched the movie and now i think i will never forget it or it's message.
