Well, i'm proud to have a car that was designed by F. Porsche (not invented)! The design is, like all Porsches quite pleasant for the eyes (friendly, not agressive), the marketing strategy combined with durability makes it the most successful car ever produced. Everytime i want to drive it, people (young and old) all of a sudden start talking to me. Looks like everyone has good memories with the Beetle. While i'm not a car enthousiast, i love this car no matter what it's background is!
Damn, give us a German car that we can afford again... and the DM, for that matter! Dolf Baby *commissioned* the bettle and laid down the specs, but Porsche did the rest. Allegedly Dolf did influence the final shape tho (a sketch purportedly from his hand depicts the beetle's profile as it was later realised).
When VWs were first being manufactured, the Nazis created a savings plan for people to accumulate money to buy a car - or so it was claimed. In fact, no one who put money into these accounts ever actually received a car, since the entire VW production output was used for war material. Many lawsuits later, in the '60s, people who'd deposited funds did get a token repayment. But in all, it was a substantial fraud.
This commercial has nothing to do with this; it's from the '50s.
@namischatz indeed Ferdinand Porsche designed this car but! it was a "homework" that Adolf H. Gave to him and the fiirst model of the beetle doesnt look so good and hitler made some modifications to the original model, so we can tell that it was a 50/50 jeje i watch it on history channel two years ago i was like WTF?
It's true that before 1945 VW was funded by the Nazis, but it was designed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1938. The first ones were imported to America in 1949 ( total sales for that year: two. )
That's not true, Hitler does not create or invent or designed this car. It was the Porsche Guy. Porsche and VW are practically the same. The Third Reich was just someone who gave money to get the project going. But they also gave money to airplanes and bombs so you can not say Hitler invented the VW beetle. :)
@Namischatz Hitler commissioned the VW - it was one of the few good things he did. Hitler did indeed do quite a few good things while in power, it's just no-one remembers them. When you're responsible for genocide, the biggest war in human history and the deaths of millions of people, your few good works do tend to be overshadowed somewhat...

@dafmobi Krijg niet vaak een reactie in het Nederlands. veel mensen halen Hitler erbij. Word er soms wel een beetje simpel van...

Instead of demanding that the entire world use English, you could get off your lazy arrogant ass and study a foreign language or two.

Does anybody know the words for this song, in German?
I would love to see the text for this in German.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

VW had an even older slogan that translated to "save five marks a week for a year if you want to drive this car."

Dont hear too well but:
Everyone everywhere is aware this pig has no bacon
This pig has to save for a very specific purpose
Everyone is now aware if the frugal idea sings
Save rhymes with drive so one buys VW
For its pleasant for the driver on business, on tour
For enjoyment one always saves a lot of money with VW
One would like forever and always to drive without wasting money
So aspire to acquire: save—drive—the VW
Corrections welcome!
