You may not live in Australia, but it does not mean redbacks have not been accidentally introduced via cargo, just as Australia started to get a colony of brown recluse spider, not a spider native to here.

That brown widow actually did created her web nest for over 10 times cause i had to to put my clothes out to dry them up ouside on the rope of the balcony and she made her net very close to the rope where my clothes dried up on the balcony...

if you have shoes and clothing outside and therea are black widows or afraid (this is a latrodectus mactans) just hit the shoes cleaning them ot th eclothes....for australians the latrodectus hasselti is their black widow ..or call it a redback in south greece we have the malmignate or latrodectus tredecimguttatus. I had for 2 years a latrodectus geometricus (brown widow) outside of my balcony near the pine tree..it even passed a winter and actually survived a snowy day...

when a black widow stays at her nest she stays there until her dying day supposing other factors (say rain or wind, or breed) does not make her change place....so there is no need to be afraid to get bitten or you would be a fool to provoke or try to catch her ...now if you are afraid a shoe would do the rest...if it was in my room i would do the shoe thing but if in the garden or anywhere else i would not bother at all.
