AGAIN more problems... when you attempted to cut the bone, you didn't use the MONO UCHI or the cutting part of the blade.... so sad that you katana had to die due to operator's error:)
Thirdly you had a horrible angle!!! All tameshigiri cuts should be made at 45 degree angles, not your 180 degree angles...Next time please do some research and use your brain
that is one of the most stupid and dangerous things that i have ever seen.:( First off, if the blade gave so much resistance with the wood, how did you expect it to cut a COW FEMUR!!!!! Secondly, attempting to cut anything hard ex. metal, thick wood, and bone without protective gear on IS STUPID BEYOND BELIEF!!!! Things could have been really bad, such as the entire mono uchi sticking through your leg!!!!!!!!
Have you ever seen a Samurai fighting a Cow in feudal Japan? Probably not. Good guess then that the Katana was not designed to cut down Cows! Hope you learned a lesson here! Glad that blade fragment didn't injure you as well!
Seriously, every sword can break, especially the genuine laminated/folded blades like the Katana. You may use it for years without problem and then you hit with the wrong angle and/or on a bad welded place and that's it... :-( The better the smith, the less probable there is a weak point anywhere.
thats what you call the result of bad technique. the blade is designed to be cutting towards the tip of the sword and you should be pulling the blade back to get a slicing action. if you cut in the middle of the blade... the kinetic energy at the tip of the sword will cause a bending moment causing a weak point where it failed...
furthermore, in that instance, it shouldn't break... you just have a crap sword.
There is no way that thing is made of spring steel, my raptor is literally unbreakable and I sink it into trees. Don't know a lot about Konron but it looks like they need to perfect their heat treatment process, I'm surprised they can even sell something that brittle as "practical"
fuck man! a sword has a soul, that one is hanmade u should not use them so awkwardly, u dont need to cut through bones, but through flesh, try it in urself if u want to know what i mean.
There is no way in hell that was a cheness 9260 i have tried and tried to brake mine and nothing some scrapes and dents but no breakage that is a total waste dawg....
Cheness wont break like that I bought one just to beat the shit out of it and an afternoon with a steel barrel the only problem in the after thought I should have filmed it to show here, this was before I was on youtube lol. Konron dont properly temper there swords obviously and it reflected in this video
@DemonsPride idk, it could be a 9260, doubtful, but his form absolutely sucked and his swings were inaccurate at best. it was probably a really bad swing that snapped it where it did, that and he could have abused that spot of the blade before hand
you use the wrong hands, if you swing from right to left your right hand should be at the bottom of the katana the left hand should be at the top of the hilt to make a push/pull movement
haha wow! if you are ever attacked by a horde of plastic bottles you'll be safe. but the second anything with bones gets involved your sword brakes? hahaha i never use this stupid phrase but it seems to fit here. *ahem* FAIL!!
He makes good cuts - he probably knows enough. Shucks, I thought it was going to work. I laughed though - a lot. But I second the thought: thanks for this test, now we know man. (lesson: when attacking cows - don't go for the legs!!!!!)
@nederveen1962 - there was a child or children in the background - you should be ashamed of yourself - testing a killing weapon to destruction with children near you - you fucking clown - no wonder all the do gooders want swords banned , ass hats like you give them all the ammo they need.
@waca22 Even if the bone was frozen, it wouldn't have, made a difference, because the inside of bone or (marrow) is a dry substance that contains no water, therefore it would not change the density or resistance of the bone if it were frozen.
@kenshiliamateseru that bone is a tube of approximately 4 millimeters and that fridge (cold wet) increases the toughness. But if it is dry cold as you say.
Good test video, glad people go through the expense of proving things like this to potential buyers, mistreating a sword? when you make something that is supposed to be durable, it better be durable.
Tamahagane is a good steel for making historically accurate blades. But, it is not even close to being the best steel. In fact, in its pure form, it is crap, the folding process is simply (or not!) to remove all of the crap. A good sword doesn't need to be folded too be real. In fact, with modern blades (and modern steel), if strength is what you are after, folding is completely unnecessary.
Tamahagane is not even close to the best steel? Really?
So, what is the best steel to make a sword better than 9260 steel? I almost order Kaze katana from chenness, they make it with 9260 steel then I'm just wondering if the kaze can be like this...
Would you mind to let me know what is the best steel for making a sword, if it's not tamahagane nor 9260?
I would steer away from Cheness for awhile. They are having bad QC issues at the moment. 9260 is great stuff if it is forged and heat treated properly. But, I think the best modern steel for swords is probably Howard Clark's L6 Bainite blades, but those are so expensive thinking about the prices would make you puke.
Any high carbon steel blade is good to make a sword. The swords durability lies in the heat treating and tempering process. Cold Steel katana's are made of only 1050 or 1055 carbon steel and they are touted as some of the most durable blades you can buy. The reason they are so great, heat treat and tempering.
Next time Im attacked by beverages! I can only imagine the pleasure that an OG Japanese dude would get confirming his knowing his cultural superiority looking at such kitani gaijin baka
silliness. Oh and modern science spoiles the fun, powder metallurgy steels just go harder an tuffer, with all respect to perhaps the highest traditional craft .

ANY Katana....no matter how well it's made, could easily break if used incorrectly, cutting against/into other hard objects.
That is the main reason why we are trained NOT TO TOUCH blades together.
