  • Is the blade laminated or plain 9260 steel?

  • soud like pure non bending steel, ups

  • Is not a real katana

Different from the sound of broken katana

  • AGAIN more problems... when you attempted to cut the bone, you didn't use the MONO UCHI or the cutting part of the blade.... so sad that you katana had to die due to operator's error:)

  • Also, your katana wasn't made of real 9260 spring steel, because 9260 has an amazing tensile strength, and it wouldn't have snapped as easily...

  • Thirdly you had a horrible angle!!! All tameshigiri cuts should be made at 45 degree angles, not your 180 degree angles...Next time please do some research and use your brain

  • that is one of the most stupid and dangerous things that i have ever seen.:( First off, if the blade gave so much resistance with the wood, how did you expect it to cut a COW FEMUR!!!!! Secondly, attempting to cut anything hard ex. metal, thick wood, and bone without protective gear on IS STUPID BEYOND BELIEF!!!! Things could have been really bad, such as the entire mono uchi sticking through your leg!!!!!!!!

  • How much for that bone?

  • i get it...to the bone!!! thats fucking funny

  • Have you ever seen a Samurai fighting a Cow in feudal Japan? Probably not. Good guess then that the Katana was not designed to cut down Cows! Hope you learned a lesson here! Glad that blade fragment didn't injure you as well!

  • una katana japonesa original soporta disparos de una ametralladora

  • was it made by Benchmade?

  • Uhmmm, your sword broke :)

  • wow i hope you didnt pay alot for that katana, if you did i would be asking for my money back! lol

  • MY JUICE!!!!!!

  • ahahahaha

  • @Railriderchris oh off course why did I forget that, you're right.

  • Ha! You broke it. Real katanas don't break so easily, in fact they don't break at all from flesh.

  • @BiggestATLAfan Yeah, they rather bend ;-b

Seriously, every sword can break, especially the genuine laminated/folded blades like the Katana. You may use it for years without problem and then you hit with the wrong angle and/or on a bad welded place and that's it... :-( The better the smith, the less probable there is a weak point anywhere.

  • Many many heh ;/

  • SUCKS :(

  • i need to see it in slow mo! this spring steel.

  • nvm, posted before the end

  • Comment removed

  • wow that sword sux

  • did u just hit the hard surface ?

  • now get me that hattori hanzo's katana

  • thats what you call the result of bad technique. the blade is designed to be cutting towards the tip of the sword and you should be pulling the blade back to get a slicing action. if you cut in the middle of the blade... the kinetic energy at the tip of the sword will cause a bending moment causing a weak point where it failed...

furthermore, in that instance, it shouldn't break... you just have a crap sword.

  • lol that sword fails!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fake katana real ones don't break

  • MA VVAFFANCULO !

  • i think suicide woulda happened if that were mine.

  • There is no way that thing is made of spring steel, my raptor is literally unbreakable and I sink it into trees. Don't know a lot about Konron but it looks like they need to perfect their heat treatment process, I'm surprised they can even sell something that brittle as "practical"

  • lmao you broke your table

  • 1:06 lol the fucking hilt broke of when you cut at some cows bone.

  • fuck man! a sword has a soul, that one is hanmade u should not use them so awkwardly, u dont need to cut through bones, but through flesh, try it in urself if u want to know what i mean.

  • id still use the part of the sword thats left lol u made ur self a wakizashi!

  • You swing your sword like a baseball bat ? From the video it looks like you hit the table.

  • this is a 1095 carbon steel

  • is it broken ?

  • Hahaha

  • God Damn! Thats Sharp! Wheres Samurai Jacks Sword at?

  • real cheap katana man =(

  • You hit the bone at an angle. AND the target should be above the waist.

  • There is no way in hell that was a cheness 9260 i have tried and tried to brake mine and nothing some scrapes and dents but no breakage that is a total waste dawg....

Nice Vid by the way cheers

  • This isn't a Cheness but a Konron, made from 9260 carbon steel. ;-)

  • Cheness wont break like that I bought one just to beat the shit out of it and an afternoon with a steel barrel the only problem in the after thought I should have filmed it to show here, this was before I was on youtube lol. Konron dont properly temper there swords obviously and it reflected in this video

  • @DemonsPride idk, it could be a 9260, doubtful, but his form absolutely sucked and his swings were inaccurate at best. it was probably a really bad swing that snapped it where it did, that and he could have abused that spot of the blade before hand

  • aw man dat is zwaar duur zo'n ding gaat hij kapot! xD

  • he broke it on purpose... he tested it before on wooden logs/tatami's and a lot more and it had already endured a lot.

He wanted to see how much it could take and he expected it to break so there's nothing for him to be ashamed of...

  • yep... that's how it's done...

    1:20

    just like that!

  • you use the wrong hands, if you swing from right to left your right hand should be at the bottom of the katana the left hand should be at the top of the hilt to make a push/pull movement

  • wrong.

  • Oh man that sucks it broke :(

  • haha..you cud hav died xD!

  • @ 0:50 : "My name is Ugo - Ugo like cookie

when Ugo grow big - Ugo want to be Skywalker like in the Star War Movie"

    uhh? DuuuHH!!

  • That's what you get for swinging a cheap imitation Katana on a cow femur. You swung it like a golf club 1:05 .

Save your frightful and unmerciful might for the Put Putt golf greens. You will be sure to impress them all with your honor and skill.

That was humiliating, to say the very least!

  • haha wow! if you are ever attacked by a horde of plastic bottles you'll be safe. but the second anything with bones gets involved your sword brakes? hahaha i never use this stupid phrase but it seems to fit here. *ahem* FAIL!!

  • broken katana 0.o"

  • thats not even a real one

  • the purpose of a katana is to cut through a man, not a cow =S

  • They were made to cut horses my friend.. horses legs.. or firts cuarter of a horse.. like you want.. ok?

  • yeah, cuz samurais hate horses

  • no, it was for the mongolians trops.. that's it

  • gona bring a bone to a fight ........PMSL

  • Next time, I am going to bring a bone to street fight.

  • wow.. wtf? must've been the cheap ones

  • Wow - sharp!

He makes good cuts - he probably knows enough. Shucks, I thought it was going to work. I laughed though - a lot. But I second the thought: thanks for this test, now we know man. (lesson: when attacking cows - don't go for the legs!!!!!)

  • jajajajajajajajajajajajajaja.... nice

  • masamune rolls over in his grave

  • LOL 1:06

    The bone was frozen?

  • No, it was not frozen,

The cow just died the day befor. ;-)

  • @nederveen1962 - there was a child or children in the background - you should be ashamed of yourself - testing a killing weapon to destruction with children near you - you fucking clown - no wonder all the do gooders want swords banned , ass hats like you give them all the ammo they need.

  • @waca22 Even if the bone was frozen, it wouldn't have, made a difference, because the inside of bone or (marrow) is a dry substance that contains no water, therefore it would not change the density or resistance of the bone if it were frozen.

  • @kenshiliamateseru that bone is a tube of approximately 4 millimeters and that fridge (cold wet) increases the toughness. But if it is dry cold as you say.

  • @waca22 your response had so many grammatical errors, that it is difficult to understand what you mean...

  • sad cülture abuse

  • Men dont use a Katana if you dont practice the Aikido... Its very dangerous to use a Katana without experience and you can hurt you...

  • Your Lucky the Blade didnt hit your body.

  • 55CrNiMoV2(ISO9457-1980E) is pretty good for sword blade. americans knewn it as L6 tool steel.

  • Good test video, glad people go through the expense of proving things like this to potential buyers, mistreating a sword? when you make something that is supposed to be durable, it better be durable.

  • exactly...i agree,thanks for the vid :)

and btw,a sword is supposed take a lot more than that

    well a real nihonto shud

theres no way it shud break with such a weak impact,no matter what it hit....

this sword probably has no iron core, which is what makes it so brittle.

    mistreat swords?theyre made for cutting...

thats like saying that someone mistreats a gun by firing it...

  • DUMBASS!

  • Serves you right for swinging the sword like a bat.

  • hmmmm i really hate it when people mistreat swords like this.

  • Tamahagane is a good steel for making historically accurate blades. But, it is not even close to being the best steel. In fact, in its pure form, it is crap, the folding process is simply (or not!) to remove all of the crap. A good sword doesn't need to be folded too be real. In fact, with modern blades (and modern steel), if strength is what you are after, folding is completely unnecessary.

  • Tamahagane is not even close to the best steel? Really?

So, what is the best steel to make a sword better than 9260 steel? I almost order Kaze katana from chenness, they make it with 9260 steel then I'm just wondering if the kaze can be like this...

Would you mind to let me know what is the best steel for making a sword, if it's not tamahagane nor 9260?

I look forward to hearing from you bro :)

  • I would steer away from Cheness for awhile. They are having bad QC issues at the moment. 9260 is great stuff if it is forged and heat treated properly. But, I think the best modern steel for swords is probably Howard Clark's L6 Bainite blades, but those are so expensive thinking about the prices would make you puke.

  • Any high carbon steel blade is good to make a sword. The swords durability lies in the heat treating and tempering process. Cold Steel katana's are made of only 1050 or 1055 carbon steel and they are touted as some of the most durable blades you can buy. The reason they are so great, heat treat and tempering.

  • I need to buy a good bone.

  • That sword got owned!!

  • i guess the steel was not good, Maybe too much carbon in it made it too hard and brittle... anyway my advice is to get a saw to cut cow's bones...

  • cool. ta

  • just curious what makes a sword real?

does it depend of how many times the metal is folded?

  • You should have tryed that with a bainite sword it wouldnt have dont that. Bainite is good for killing Zombies...Very effective.

  • what katana is this exactly?

  • Next time Im attacked by beverages! I can only imagine the pleasure that an OG Japanese dude would get confirming his knowing his cultural superiority looking at such kitani gaijin baka

silliness. Oh and modern science spoiles the fun, powder metallurgy steels just go harder an tuffer, with all respect to perhaps the highest traditional craft .

  • anything can be broken with enough force in the right place, though it would be incredibily hard to break a tama' katana just be inexpirienced useage.

  • You NEVER cut straight sideways with a katana you always go with the angle of the blade

  • Opps

  • LOL well, I suppose if your assailant is a 150 lb hot water bottle you are safe.

  • lucky nobody caught the other end of that blade

  • Yikes.

  • That is not a japanese sword.

A genuine japanese sword is able to cut the bone easely.

By the way, a genuine it costs not less than 10000$ in Japan.

  • Dude i bet you were so made. I know i would be.

  • Sorry i meant to spell mad.

  • thats what happens when you have no technique, practice the art then test the sharpness

  • ... its not a baseball bat

  • Dude not smart funny but not smart your lucky that no one got hurt

  • i really want this blade.

  • you idiot, what a waste of an awsome blade

  • I agree!!!

  • thats what happens when you have an idiot trying to cut a thick bone with a katana. plus it looked like pig metal not the real case hardened steal they use to make the real katanas.

  • In the few seconds of this video, with the bad quality of the imageing....how can you see that it's 'pig metal' ??

You must have superman eye sight.

  • because if it were the true metal they use for katanas, it wouldn't brake that easy.

  • You should study more about Katana's and their metallurgical properties. If you had, you wouldnt make such an idiotic statement.

ANY Katana....no matter how well it's made, could easily break if used incorrectly, cutting against/into other hard objects.

That is the main reason why we are trained NOT TO TOUCH blades together.

  • i understand now but that part about the idiotic statement was uncalled for. ya everyone makes stupid statements, just most times they don't need to be pointed out. >_> same with the thumbs down.... thats just cold

  • Iaidō (居合道) is a Japanese martial art associated with smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its saya, striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then replacing the sword in the saya.

  • The parts are used to make an tanto from the top end, and from the bigger part a O-tanto is made.

  • you might not have a katana any more but you have a knife and a kunai!

  • I think you should get your money back!

  • I think you should get your money back, man!

  • I did'nt pay anything for that katana, i was able to test is to the limit for the company who sels those katana's in Holland.

I've done the same with a Cold Steel katana ( tested it hard ) and even broke that one into two peaces.

  • Everybode knowes that with this kind of abuse a sword ( any sword ) can snap.

Even a real shinken can snap if you use it on a to hard target.

  • that shouldnt have happened it must have been a peice o shit

  • Whoa! it snapped!

  • what the hell!

    you snapped the katana!!!

that blade must have been poorly made!

    bloody hell!

  • please explain this in english

  • Mooie tests Ti-lite!
