It is hard to make a comparison in this song between clapton and walsh in this setting. Consider the years that have passed since walsh laid down the guitar on this song in the studio. You just cannot say clapton does a better job than walsh on this song, no way. But, I am not a fan of live recorded music anyway. Walsh in studio on this song has no equal!!!!
tHESE DUDES ARE OLD MATES yES-bUT sTEVE CAN HANDLE ALL OF IT, IF NEED BE, hE CANT BE AT EVERY INSTRUMENT lIVE -hE, i FEEL HAS WRITTEN/WRITES GREAT SONGS AND was writng his own stuff when Cream was doing mostly covers , HE is a consummate Musician and No, slouch on The Guitar ,by any means .also Blind Faith would have been absolutely Nowhere, w/o Him......
@sourceweft You know, I always wondered the same thing myself. To this day, I'm still not sure. One thing's for sure, though: This song is one of Steve's all-time best, and never got quite the recognition it deserved.
One of my all time favourite songs, thanks

@clamlapper32 I agree. Really can't improve upon the perfection of the original studio version of this song. Good live version, though.

Argued some years ago with a bass player that the solo on the original version isn't Walsh, but Winwood on synth. Recommendation? Listen carefully.

Best song on a bloody great album...JR's drumming on the original is stellar and a very nice job by Joe Walsh on guitar.

A lot like Traffic. Steve is a pop/rock master.
