  • @joinchoir - you is funny.

I think this piece is very cool. It highlights the sci-finess of Holst's creation. It makes sense. I hope you do more. The future needs a soundtrack.

  • @Wildeparker Right now I'm more into working with visuals than music, but I will do some more videos with old tracks here and there. :)

  • @Wildeparker Oh - and check out joinchoir's channel - you won't regret it! :)

  • excellento!

  • @MrHopeTelevision Thanks! :)

  • quite a few arbitrary-sounding liberties taken with dynamic markings & with timbral voice character in order to sound digitized & spacey, instead of the exquisitely mystical lushness of orchestration in the original - infinitely preferable; this sounds too tinny & slick - the essential Holstian qualities almost entirely obviated.

  • @malachitely You know what - you won't get any argument from me. At all. :) The original orchestrated version is way superior. I tried giving it "my own" atmosphere/arrangement that differs both from the original and Tomita's electronic interpretation. I guess I kinda succeeded in this, but of course in the limitations of my own skills and equipment.

And yet I still like my version too. :)

    Thanks for the comment! :)

  • Great arrangement and I must say that it stands up again Tomita's version very well which is an achievment in it's own right !, did you do any more of the Planets Suite or just this one?

  • Ground control to Commanderkruge:

    good work commander !

    eternal 5*

  • Dankedanke! ^^

  • Do you know the version Tomita did of the Planets? If not you should definitely check it out, it's one of those electronic albums one just should know if into electronic music. He also did a quite amazing versions of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.

And thanks again for the kind words - I consider myself just a "hobby musician" and thus am doubly proud when someone else likes something I did. :)

  • Thanks a lot! Yes, it's obvious that Holst was thinking beyond the norms of ... "classic" classic music. In the original of Neptune, for example and if I'm not mistaken, the choir at the end is supposed to be in a room offstage to make the sound more diffuse. That's not your standard arrangement for sure... :)

What also strikes me again and again is how much the Planets have influenced orchestral soundtracks for science fiction movies. He defined what "Space..." sounds like... :)
