Ok, but I always wondered when I saw this film as a little boy: did the boy soprano actually sing that, or was he dubbed in by a female soprano ? It seems dubbed, but very well done.
I know for a fact that there are and have been boy sopranos who has glorious voices, because I was lucky to possess one myself, which has turned into a deep bass: but if that was actual singing by the boy, then what on EARTH ever happened to him ? Does anyone know the answer? I loved Lanza as a child.
I used to have debates with my father over Lanza - i thought Pavarotti was perfection, my father was a Lanza fan. I have since lost my father and now this piece is perfection to me. you was right dad.

THis is the most beautiful music seemingly from heaven itself, however it is competely unblibical and therefore there is a way that seemeth right unto men but the end thereof is the way of distruction. I have to pull myself away from its lovely chords......It is not a message that is true to scripture even if it pulls heartstrings and tears....
@LadyStardust45 i'm the mum of sebastien, but i have also memories about that song, i was crying as little girl with that film. Afterwards my friend was singing that song at Bruge in Belgium in the middle of the night, she was drunk, her father was so ill and every tourist was clapping their hands, so emotional. Good memories, bad memories
Where my post went, I do not know. This is still total magic! I'd give my right arm to sing with the great Mario Lanza. This child did, and even if it was not his voice, Mario Lanza embraced him. What a wonderful moment for this child and all of us.
My mother keeps telling me that Mario Lanzo was so great that before he initiated his concert for those who payed the ticket he sang one song for the hundreds of poor people who were waiting for him outside in the cold! Now I don't know if this is true but if it is he was truely great!
Even though he's not as trained as say...someone like Pavarotti was, I can't help but respect the expression he puts into his music. To me, his expression more than makes up for this lack of training. If anything, it trumps it. If two people sing the same thing and one makes me cry, guess which singer I think is better? Technique is and always will be admirable, but it is no substitute for raw emotion like this. RIP Mario, you were one of the greats.
@VAAMusicalMike It's a common misconception that Lanza was untrained. He was a highly trained aspiring opera singer when he was "discovered." You have good taste.
He sang like God from Olympus! This song sings like an angel, like the sound of the ocean, or mist hung over the city rooftops! Wonderful, great artist!
I cried as a child when I first saw this and now many years later again watching on you tube. My dad an american sicilian introduced Mario to me and my love for his sound and emotions have never waived.

when I was just a litle girl my mother take me to see a film with him, and I never forget how I like him singing. It´is now 52 years or more ,but I never forget.
this was one of my favorite films as a kid and my favorite part of the film was this one. Also, the scene from The Jolson Story featuring the same song sung by a young Al Jolson. Oh, and the choir boys singing in Bishop's Wife. Wonderful!
If you close your eyes while singing to this.. you would think that he was singing with a girl.. but when you open your eyes it's a little boy with a soprano range.
@Hefratho For many years there has been a discussion if the boy (Michael Collins) beside Mario Lanza is singing, or if it is a girl dubbing for him. This is what Armando Cesari write in his book “Mario Lanza - an American tragedi.”
----------and the Bach - Gounod “Ave Maria” with soprano Jacqueline Allen dubbing for Michael Collins in a sequence featuring Lanza singing in the Cathedral.

Awesome! Almost brought a tear to my eye! ....And WHO was that awesome treble who sang with him? He was nervous as hell, but what a voice, and what power!!!
so agree...actually i am using my brothers computer....i am 4260laurel...but lanza has always been thought of as one of the greats- even as untrained as he was.
Witch Ann Cappelletti, the sorceror of So. Philadelphia, 1/2 sister of Barbara Bush, witch daughters of Aleister Crowley, killed Mario's wife with a voodoo doll. No doubt she killed Mario because she wanted him and he didn't want her. I will post more when I learn it.

It is the Annunciation to Mary from the angel Gabriel, found in the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 1. In English:
"Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee."
"Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of they womb."
ChrisStephenHP 4 months ago
@suzisclozet "competely unblibical" (sic)??? Better check the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 1:
"Ave, gratia plena, Dominus tecum."
"Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui."
So it's actually entirely biblical.

this was one of my favorite films as a kid and my favorite part of the film was this one.

The most beautiful duet between boy soprano and the world's greatest tenor. So moving and a memory to treasure.
