let's see Memes- as in a religion is a virus- God Delusion-
please atheist disciples provide empirical evidence of them - not some made up faith head nonsene- but stuff i can test in a lab under scientfic conditions otherwise he is talking ****
@philosophyteacher "Meme" is a word he coined to classify an observable phenomenon, an idea that spreads to the point of impacting cultural consciousness.
@backwoodsninja how can you observe using scientific methods the spread of an idea such as atheism? I
find it hard to find empirical evidence for this at all- surely this is just his 'belief 'and not a fact and doesn't he then go to talk about good and bad memes? are there scientific tests for that too?
@philosophyteacher Actually, it is possible to measure that. You'd have to make operational defenitions for atheism, conversion to the idea, etc.. Then, decide which research method you will use to record the spread of the idea. This is all part of the scientific method. Science is not limited to "testing things in a lab."
@backwoodsninja i know its not but your method would become highly subjective and so not real science also for mr dawkins it is odd to use not a darwinian model but a Lamarkian model (doesn't that contradict itself ??) for memes and memes are often used instead of genes (i.e. memes are often called in to play as explanations for cultural preferences when simpler/more rigorous sociobiological explanations can be used) so i am not convinced scientifically by this as surely evolution is a meme !
Hey Dawkins! Guess what? I WAS A CHRISTIAN CHILD!
...guess I didn't exist back then, huh?

@bvander007 They have not been given the chance to see and understand all possible choices for a religion they may wish to practice.
That is his argument.

There's few people I have great respect for, this gentleman would be one of them.
I've been saying the same thing for years. People can really be stupid when it comes to religion (obviously).
