This pilot is well experienced & trained, even though the weather in Shannon was a bit milder, yet it was still needs an experienced pilot to land. Welcome to the ground again, I was hoping to see the reaction of the woman sitting next to you after the landing. Im sure she would be relived.
@cailingaelach1970 - Me too, I've had a copule of Bad Landings like this. I always used to love flying but one bad Landing in 2008 and I'm bricking it everytime the Plane takes off. The slightest bit of turbulence makes me feel terrified and sick. Its mainly the helplessness of it that gets to me.
Very smooth landing despite heavy crosswind conditions at EINN (diversion from EIDW) - Shamrock PIC's trained to very high standards - what happened to PAX after arrival at EINN, did the winds evntually die down at Dublin to allow landing ???
Aer Lingus is the best, I will always try to use them when ever I travel to the UK. was great so well and the flights all were smooth and comfortable.
@alanoc22 I'd say it was scary for you all, even though you were in good hands. I'm a nervous flyer and would have been praying hard (and hoping He was listening to me!)
I actually wouldn't mind landing at Shannon seeing as im from Galway and Aer Lingus are cutting their Shannon routes cos they cant run a business well! For example, im flying to New York in 2 weeks and they wanted €700+ from SNN-JFK,so i got American airlines for €484 instead...(SNN-LHR-JFK-LHR-SNN).. even though im using Aer Lingus to Heathrow and back
christ im sure theirs no law in you clapping your hands after a plane lands, what... you think because you don't clap your hands after a bad flight your better?... this world is too full of wankers like you, yes you!
get bent asshole. people like me, yes me are entitled to our opinion. if i dont like people clappin, thats my opinion. its not as if i get up on the flight and confront someone for clappin. it just bugs me thats all.
@wallsie we flew with AL from London-Dublin in 2005. Halfway there and this massive storm comes out of nowhere. The worst approach weather I've experienced in 51 years. Felt sure that had to divert. Nope. That flight crew eased it down and put it on the tarmac so gently with everyone braced for a hard landing. All passengers and crew applauded and although I was buggered from the previous flight from Sydney-London, I waited to the end to thank that crew personally.
@xhavenrunaway yes i agree, but i hope you have calculated the fact that Aer Lingus also has a small fleet, therefore chances of accidents are much slimmer and because of Aer Lingus's small fleet maintenance is easier and costs much lower. I just hope Aer Lingus does not become another Ryanair. Aer Lingus is a very good airline, and should stay as a legacy/ luxury cheap liner
well i do think that as a pilot, you would appreciate a clap. i mean, pilots pride themselves on good landings etc, so if i was a pilot (as i have every intention of) i know id like a clap sometimes.
Ok guys, ur aloud use electrical devices(cams etc) but not on landing or take off. and your never aloud use a phone not even when its on flight mode :(

I've never understood why people applaud after the initial touchdown since it appears most accidents and deaths during landing occur after that point. Most of these huge aircraft are still doing well over 150mph at touchdown, with considerable effort required to slow it to a stop safely.
correct me if im wrong but isnt it against the regulations to use electronics during take off and landings as they can interfear with the on board computers and radar if so why would you endanger yourself and others by breaking the rules for your own gain?????

The passengers had been in the air 8 hrs from DXB, aborted landing in DUB and then 30mins more to SNN, I'm crew for a major airline and I'd have clapped!
that was thrown down! but you are still alive (I hope). Have to say that, along with the original missed approach; these are the best vids i have seen on the internet. Thank you!
I think people are clapping on every European airline. Which is very nice. The only thing is, which makes me laugh, that they always clap right on touchdown. That's way too early. A big airliner traveling down the runway at about 150 mph, with about 2 miles to stop, a lot can still happen. I start clapping at 60 knots, when the thrust reversers come off.
why was the Dublin landing aborted? what time of year were you traveling? we are scheduled to fly to Ireland for the first time ever---not so sure I should be watching this beforehand!!
ah "the clap" love it."we didnt die!"LOL think its irish thing, on turbulence flights.I always Aer Lingus whenever i can, always has a professional touch about them, staff and pilots. nice video
flying as a child years ago it was the norm to clap but now not so frequent unless its a windy approach. im a clapper no matter what the weather. i dont care if im the only one doing it. im just so grateful to be lifted off one piece of tarmac and deposited on another a few hundred miles apart safe and sound.
I was on a Delta flight from Atlanta to Dublin last month, and we clapped once we landed, so it may be an Irish thing. Because the flight home was Gatwick to JFK, and no one clapped. I think it's a good thing to do, very polite.

The entire plane clapped and I waited to shake that Captain's hand!
Ohhh my God.... It`s just a way to say "thank you" to the pilots... What`s the problem? Pretty usual in Europe, even if landing in Spain, middle of the Summer... I like it !
iNewsie (or whatever your name is ), Fuck off yourself, my dear! who gives a flying fuck to your comments ? Learn to write English properly and stop clapping - people will think that you have gone senile.
Isn't just good manners to clap someone on a job well done? Yes the pilots knew exactly what to do but i would probably bet that they would be dripping with sweat afterwards.
Example. You're in your car, you start to skid, you know what to do to correct the skid and stop safely. But afterwards your heart will be going a hundred miles an hour and you'll think, hell that was close.
Hey ive talked to a pilot and he wished that people claped more often :P I guess he wishes he was still in the 1950's when pilots were looked at as gods
clapping is for pussies as i never see anyone clap when they arrive home from a 2 hour traffic jam where some poor sham wacked his truck into a car full of kids and killed them all. Flying is much safer than driving ur car
why bother clapping the pilots know what they r doing so it doesnt bring goodluck to clap,as once was on flight from stanstead to knock and talk about scary up and down trying to view runway through the clouds and all that went through my mind was if u going to go u going to go as nothing can do about it now as they say to fly is safer than driving ur car in the morning traffic,as all those half asleep bastards forget to drive properly not like those pilots who knew they couldnt land.
I would say the first clapping landing I've experience was with Adria Airways, landing in LFPG(paris charles-de-gaulle), the most perfect landing i've ever been thru, to my estimation, it should have been a touch down of -50ft/m, i couldnt even feel the touchdown, i saw the spoilers out then i realized we touched. LOOOL! great Experience!!!
I also landed in shannon that day after my flight being diverted and i was soo happy to be alive that the 3 hour bus journey back to dublin didnt bother me one bit!
Yaaay! A landing video where people clap, even if the plane bounces a little bit. You don't see that too often on this website. Personally, I love to clap upon landing.
Well I fly about once every 2 months on Aer Lingus and the only time anyone clapped was on a flight from Italy where, from what I have been told, clapping is quite normal.
Ha Ha! Clapping on landing is normal in some countries but not in Ireland or the UK and not on Aer Lingus! I think they clapped becasue of the extreme weather conditions they had just experienced up there.
Fucking rain In Shannon!!! Then you know you're home.

Flying is much safer than driving ur car
westofireland 4 years ago
why bother clapping the pilots know what they r doing so it doesnt bring goodluck to clap,as once was on flight from stanstead to knock and talk about scary up and down trying to view runway through the clouds and all that went through my mind was if u going to go u going to go as nothing can do about it now as they say to fly is safer than driving ur car in the morning traffic,as all those half asleep bastards forget to drive properly not like those pilots who knew they couldnt land.

Yaaay! A landing video where people clap, even if the plane bounces a little bit. You don't see that too often on this website. Personally, I love to clap upon landing.

ramshock 5 years ago
Well I fly about once every 2 months on Aer Lingus and the only time anyone clapped was on a flight from Italy where, from what I have been told, clapping is quite normal.
S350XWB 5 years ago
same here but normally it's only when there's a dozen or more bowsies bringing the family to Salou for a fortnight
upmeath 4 years ago
hey i like salou im going again in june and im not a kid i'm 14 and probably know a lot more than you do!!

I never said anything about kids. I mentioned bowsies alright, not kids.
upmeath 4 years ago
Ha Ha! Clapping on landing is normal in some countries but not in Ireland or the UK and not on Aer Lingus! I think they clapped becasue of the extreme weather conditions they had just experienced up there.
