  • From Youtube videos, you would swear everyone who likes 60/70's music is 12

  • @SAULGOODE9 I wonder if 80 year olds go to songs like "rose of alabama" or "kingdom comin'" and say "Im only 80 years old, but I know that these are some of the greatest songs ever written!!".

  • Gotta love david bowie(: Whoever said the younger generation hasnt heard true music? Because looking at the comments on this video.. I beg to differ. And i'm 13.

  • Amazing! I'm only breathing and I enjoy David Bowie!

  • god this is so good

  • David Bowie's songwriting and song structures were as good as the Beatles!

  • @punkroc81 or better

  • God knows David is Good

  • hes the best

  • I knew Dave in Brixton

    No Change

    Skunksukofficial on My Space

  • cant get over how this is so real and sad

  • clever i remember this from youth

  • I loved the old Bowie song from the late 60's and early 70's - he was so tongue in cheek but even so this one is a real corker :)

  • i love this song but i always felt the performance was a bit halfhearted. i feel like the god knows im good part should be belted out.

  • @sickofthistown agreed. the music is great, massage is repetitive and false in many ways. that makes it just average... but we know from space oddity bowie can do better than this.

  • im here because of ratemykipz

  • @ilikethingsfromjapan so am i mother fucker hell yea i herd you liek

  • The moral perspective of this song is amazing. All the comfortable people rush to help her after she has comprimised her values before God because she is hungry. At what point do we comprimise ourselves? For a million dollars or for food to survive? Makes you think.

  • I'm reading Bowie's now biography and apparently while recording this track, he had a break down. I guess this song had special meaning to him.

  • he looks like a vampire

  • i love this track i dont read anything into it im a simple person i just love the song simple as that it would so easy to read things that arent there and he is not here to answer them, an amazing performer one of the most innfluential artists in the business a true great

  • charming

  • amazing...

I'm only 12, so I havent seen much, but david bowie is one of the most talented singers/songwriters ive ever listened to.

  • you have lots of great music to discover, keep looking

  • @JulieDanDioSmith Smart Kid

  • @JulieDanDioSmith i was only 13 when i got into Bowie, im 30 now!

  • @phil77mc was10 when got into bowie am 52 now still the best

  • @phil77mc was only 10 when bought this album am 52 now been a bowie fan ever since he really is brilliant

  • @JulieDanDioSmith Same here, dude-- I'm a little older than you, but I found Bowie when I was 12 and never went back. Joan Jett, Suzie Quatro, Iggy Pop, Zep, ACDC, Kiss, you name it. Us rock n roll kids gotta stick together, man.

  • @Annaedification kiss? lol wtf

  • @utssb Sure. Kiss is great. They're a little commercial, but them at the beginning is great.

  • @JulieDanDioSmith You might also like the work of Antony and the Johnsons and Nine Inch Nails. I've found their lyricists to be great songwriters, too.

  • @warriorofwrestling ahhh love Antony and the Johnsons :)

  • @JulieDanDioSmith You won't find many you'll think better either!

  • @JulieDanDioSmith

There is little of the past that survives the glance of the future.

Music is like the rock you walk upon. Parts are worn by time and forgotten....and parts adhere.

    I haven't been twelve for decades........but as I glance back........this was a bridge that didn't burn.

  • @Bra23we12 That's beautiful

  • @Bra23we12

i havent been twelve for like, 2 years... lol, and i bet i am more obsessed with david bowie than anyone that grew up in his era. i LOVE HIM!

  • @JulieDanDioSmith i'm only eleven, but surely god won't look the other way

  • @JulieDanDioSmith yoour now 14, and every and i hope you discovered a lot more from bowie, especcialy his early works, grt

  • just great glam rock from the king of glam rock

  • Whilst I know that the Thin White Duke is referring to the tired old lady when he sings "God knows I'm good", I often wonder if he isn't privately singing it from his own perspective, if anyone knows what I mean ? If ever any musician is justified in such a boast ( " God knows, I'm good ! " ), I'd say it's Bowie.

Either way it's very clever social commentary and something that is missing in a lot of music nowadays.

  • Are you saying david bowie only wrote this song to be arrogant?

  • @Kingdra ahahah yeah good question

  • masterpiece

  • leve paresido a la semilla de chuqui!

  • I think that what happened with this woman is..very pertaining with the nowaday's global crisis...right moment's choice!!

  • Unless I misinterpreted you, I'm going to have to disagree. I don't think the song is saying that it is ok to steal in the right circumstances. I think the message is that people shouldn't allow the situation where the woman has to choose between doing something wrong and going hungry,

  • One of my absolute favorite Bowie songs!

  • Fab tune, love album, one of his best

    Thanks for sharing

  • emky67,

You're quite right it's a cracker. Personally, I think Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed and Janine just edge out this song out.

To vote on Space Oddity album lyrics, may I suggest opening up Bowie's Tin of Stewing Steak (a website; they won't let me put the address up).

    Cheers Stewart Steak
