Even though it is very well possible to get a heavy, metal sound out of a squire, it isn't as easy as it is with other brands such as Ibanez. I have a marshall amp and have been playing my friends squire out of it, and the tone is lacking considerably in comparison to my Ibanez. The sound coming out of the amp with the ibanez plugged in is much heavier.

I don't normally play Strat-bodied instruments, I actually use Paul Reed Smith guitars for the most part, and their tremolo (and wraparound, but I don't own any wraparound models) bridge holds up with it pretty well. I mainly use that tuning for some Whitechapel covers.

you cant play drop a on .009 because there will be no tention at all - meaning you wouldnt be able to produce sound. you do need to get a nut that fits a heavier gauge tho.

you would probably want a 0.12 - 0.14 gauge for that.
