The Conshelf II experiment was supposed to test how well humans could live and work at pressure in a submersed habitat. The 'aquanauts' were collecting fish and conducting biological experiments. In reality it was more about television - some of the scenes in the films were shot in studios! Great idea though and a great dive. The submarine hanger is still airtight, although you wouldn't want to breathe the air there: fungal spores and who knows what else on the inside wall.

Ahh what a shame there was no one to continue Jacque's experiment. He was arguably the last of the true great explorers and influenced a generation.
