That they did time trials before the actually did head to head racing and these two cars got matched up. However the Vette probably ran a slower time than the truck so they had to give him a head start so it would be fair. I don't know too much about bracket racing but really you just want to be consistent with your time because if you run too fast they disqualify you. I hope that kinda helped.

Not all the time. There is like a certain time frame you have to be in, if you are faster than that specific time frame then you are disqualified. Of course the objective is to beat the guy you are racing but still be in the time frame without exceeding the maximum time. I'm sorry I don't know too terribly much about it but that is kinda the jist of it.
