  • Who cares if you heard it from American Dad!, you know, in logical terms it's the same as hearing a song from the radio?

You hear a song you like, they tell you the name, you decide you like it, and look for more.

The source shouldn't matter, so long as you truly enjoy the music.

  • @herbiedhancock I don't get why the previous fans would feel that way, sure it would be great to have discovered it on my own, but I didn't and after watching American dad I went and bought every album of of there's that I could, still do have them and frequently listen to them.

  • You're Truly a disgrace if American Dad brought you here

  • @MastarCheif90 A little over doing it there, huh?

  • @MastarCheif90 your a disgrace for caring where anyone heard it from.

  • @MastarCheif90 By the same token you're saying you watch American Dad because you obviously are very opinionated about it.

  • @MastarCheif90 your a discerace if you name yourself after a video game character

  • @West0SDS0Side You can't even spell disgrace. I've never seen someone butcher that word so badly.

  • @BadAstley look slike theres a first for everything ya little bitch

  • Добри се овие бе.

  • omg , American dad did this band so famous :D

  • @magic1swizerland "Z" Ranked #67 on the US charts, and then in 2008, Evil Urges ranked #9 on the US charts, The american dad episode came out in 2009, I think My Morning Jacket gained most of their fans by themselves. Although, no disrespect to American Dad.

  • @TheJarredMartin i agree but i think american dad brought a new type of fan like family guy did for journey for example the top comments are both american dad related

  • Upgrade yourself with My Morning Jacket!

  • American Dad is a shitty show, but damn do I love this band.

  • @VanillaSwirlsOfDoom Very shitty.

  • i never knew myself till i herd this song haha

  • maybe i'm to old to like new music but this is so boring...

  • @cyberslaw Actually it sounds like your making a subconcious decision to label all new music like this you cant base an opinion off one song or band its all different tastes

  • @GrisGrisOnUrDoorStep actualy i think thats what you are doing, anyway i just said that because i hadn't found some new music to like in a long while but (new music doesn't need to mean more recently composed, just new to me) that has changed now i no that im not to old to like new stuff i just dont like this :)))

  • @cyberslaw Ahh I see, touche good sir...

  • @cyberslaw I like The Doors, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, CCR, Allmand Brothers, Doobie Brothers, and Cream and still find this to be good music, your argument is invalid. Please leave the premises before you are violently escorted from them.

  • @housedimir66 Its not an argument , its an opinion , and if you don't like it don't pay any attention to it ,

these are not premises ,but if they were I wouldn't be paying any attention at them, and nice choice of music in the back :)

  • @cyberslaw whats not boring to you? im just curious man, since this never bores me. it enlightens me.

  • @WhoMadeWho33 the bands that housdimir66 mentiones are not boring and all sorts of other music that are not rock and roll in their roots are not boring to me, i've just outgrown this sort of music and it sounds boring to me, if in a couple of years you hear something similar to this but from another band or even this one it's probably going to sound boring to you to, you should not consider my oppinion as a personal attack on your taste and if you were truly enlightened you would know that .

  • Chapter 1 Sandworm Cometh is what brought me to My Morning Jacket (specifically the cover of Elton John's Rocket Man) and I've been digging their sounds ever since... except Evil Urges, which I don't think is their best work.

  • @Textylove As far as I'm concerned, Pearl Jam brought me to them. I saw My Morning Jacket opening for them in Paris in September 2006. Z is one of the finest albums released in 2005. And the voice of the singer is very reminiscent of Wayne Coyne, the singer of the Flaming Lips!

  • thumbs up if you actually knew who this band was before american dad put it on tv...

  • @thatguy43547 who gives a shit?

  • @Whitemexican well, it is kind of true that it always calls for a tactical facepalm when there is the great band that you like and wholeheartedly support and one day you notice that one of their songs on YouTube is viewed 10 times more than others because it was on some show and everyone brags about how the show brought them to it, lol. It's like sitting in your favorite restaurant and enjoying a dish a lot, while someone at another table takes a bite, says "hey it's a-ok, yeah." and leaves. :P

  • @Shezzein ahh i hear ya man man, but hey if it wasnt for the ending of american dad i would have never looked them up. i started watchin the episode at like the ending an then saw the live footage an was like holy shit thats fuckin epic!! ive been lookin for some good tunes like this!! anywho MMJ is some of the best chill music to listen too, peace man man.

  • @thatguy43547

i don't watch american dad. its family guy's less cool and uglier sister. so ya been listening since i heard Sandworm Cometh (2004) in 2007

  • Just saw them in Alpharetta, GA--8/20/2011, I saw them @ Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores, Al in May 2011, Voodoo Fest in New Orleans Halloween nite 2010!!! 3 times within 12 months--I wish I could've seen them more--Best live band ever, arguably best band ever!!

  • @browneye17 My parents went to the Alpharetta show and I saw them at Chastain Park in GA last year

  • thumbs up if american dad didn't bring you here...

  • @benlorenc thumbs up if good music brought you here

  • "Things I Could Say To Myself, I Could Never Say To Anyone Else." Very true.

  • i found them by American dad too X]P

  • @patsfan41191 dido.

  • haha myyy story on how i got here, lmao, im trying to liisten to indie musicc<3

  • i discovered this band through Lollapalooza...shame on me for not finding them sooner but i'm here

  • for such a "happy" sound the lyrics are surprisingly sad

  • I listened to this band ages ago and haven't in a long time, so American Dad reminded me of them. It's a good thing people are discovering this music

  • I'm a new MMJ fan.

So I'm not bashing when I say...he sounds like some odd mix of Bono and Gerry Marsden (from Gerry & the Pacemakers) trying to do a Christopher Walken impression while singing.

  • is there anyway i can get acapella versions of my morning jacket songs ? i don't mean some glee clubish people trying to do a cover, just the vocals would be a massive help if anybody knows?

  • American dad is my kind of comedy so i figured the music they use on the show has to be my kind of music. so what i found them from my favorite show, the music is like being in a happy world so beautiful anyway from pain. i can smoke pot to this all day and night

  • @GarrettayyyeeDERson i wish i knew this ban instead of coldplay

  • @GarrettayyyeeDERson Shut up Haley! Why did Stan let you on the computer?

  • @GarrettayyyeeDERson Nice job falling into there trap

  • @GarrettayyyeeDERson Jim James has the voice of an angel.

  • I don't know what 2 write, I doubt in expression. MMJ is not popular all over the world.

Found MMJ by Californication, cover of Elton John's Rocket Man. The drums were unequal, the guitar was a little out of tune...but It's not about stuff, when you fall in love with music, there is no explanation...

  • I found them out after I typed in "Bands that sound like Band of Horses" on google

  • I agree, i found out about them on American Dad and since then, I listened to every song and never get tired of them... ps. they were also on Conan.

    definitely my favorite band

  • Comment removed

  • Jim James is my soulmate

  • @FunkMasterSteez American Dad reference?

  • @IREflynnski YES *-----*

  • Comment removed

  • I only found this band bc they made fun of it on American Dad, thank god for that stupid humor I would of never found this awesome band

  • @pndsheehan they never made fun of them on american dad...

  • I knew MMJ before, but I just watched the American Dad episode about them for the first time tonight and loved it haha :)

  • i checked this band out after reading a article about them...and the writer named them the best band in the world..so i just had to check it out...the writer was obiously deranged..they are good...even very good..but best band in the world...get real

  • ? I dont watch American Dad but I discovered this band cause Vanessa Carlton tweeted about going to their concert and since I love her music, I checked it out. ANOTHER artist that needs more attention than she gets.

  • yim yames went to my high school!

  • This music has soul... It doesn't even matter if it's in the mainstream. It can only be good for the human soul.

  • yeah what he said

  • yeah what he said lol

  • Exactly!! You're not in the band. You don't own them. This band is great without you. Just enjoy and hi five your bro that's rocking out along with you.

  • A few people have tried to turn me on to their music, but I wouldn't have cared if I had not watched American Dad. It was this band's best advertisement.

I must be 'uncool' for not wanting to give them a chance before. lol !

  • i want this album but they dont sell it in my country :(

  • rofl knowing of a band before other people hear about it makes me waaaay cooler than those n00bs

  • thumbs up if your watching this because of american dad

  • i had the same reaction as stan

  • i found this thru american dad lmao its a pretty good band

  • i love this song, its so damn good, especially when your jogging, makes me feel like a badass.

  • Its kinda Flaming Lips with some Built to Spill and a lil Pedro the Lion.

  • anyone knows what is the music that stan from american dad hears in the concert of my morning jacket?

  • @rbahute Wordless Chorus

  • @rbahute

Touch Me Im going to Scream part II

  • @sweetchels36

    Amazing song.

  • agreed. that is why American Dad practically came out with a full episode dedicated to MMJ "MY MORNING STRAIGHT JACKET"! check it out dedicated MMJ fans

  • Jacket Saves

  • Ummm why doesn't this have AMILLION BAGILLION VIEWSSS PEOPLE ARE INSANE

  • @Zebra5775 I agree man, the fact that the band went on the damn show obviously means they wanted to reach that audience... They couldve said no. Stan knows tunes.

  • Yes american dad is cool and so it this band making it double cool

  • Hello people, MMJ allowed them selfs to be put on American Dad, so i dont think they had a problem with more people discovering them that way.And if a band loses its integrity after becoming more popular then thats the bands fault and not the people. and music is art people often change they're style or directions according to they're want or need to express themselves.i cant belive so many of you are fighting about music.its sad

  • @FireintheOcean i agree why ya dude

  • so do i WOW this band is awesome, and i couldn't ever found it without help... THANKS AMERICAN DAD realy! I thot it was a fdake band, not a rel band but this is grest Damn I LOVE IT

  • oh yesss

  • Couldn't agree more I always hate when people do things like that. Especially the people who've listened to it for a while, and once you discover act real douche about you listening to it.

  • I don't see why all of you are all about this band.. Everyone keeps talking about them, but their music is bland and un-exciting.

  • @housemonzter I really kind of thought the same thing at first, but I think the more you listen to them, the more you start the feel the emotion and feeling come through the music, and just take a hold of you.

I obsess about MMJ... I don't really know why :)

  • @aaron4820 yeah ya think....and maybe they should stop being such douchbags and trying so hard to be different from "normal" people or just like everyone else, cuz sound like all the other crybabies crying about someone stealing their secret.which in turn makes them apart of a mass

  • Get there album okonokos if you havent yet, if you liked Z that album is much better since it is live.

  • @Dre18nc agreed... the live versions of this song, one big holiday, run thru, and at dawn will make you feel like you're in another stratosphere

  • Had a couple friends telling me to check these guys out for a few years now, finally got a hold of a albums. Z is definitely my favorite so far. Whether a cpl friends or t.v or random act of dvd buying if ya like this band then cool.

They have a great original sound and i'm sure they are just glad to have some more fans. Jump on board and tell a few friends to give them a listen.

  • I don't see why all you hardcore MMJ fans are bashing the people who discovered the band through American Dad. I would think you would be glad, that the music you enjoy is reaching other people. It's not that we're all "jumping on the bandwagon" or whatever; we just all watched the show and happened to like the music. So what if you've listened to them for longer than us? Big deal, no one cares. Get the fuck over yourself.

  • yeah, I agree Zebra. I think it's funny, but a good thing. Seriously, I find all my music through other people. Rarely, do I find them when I hear their first gig. No one does.

Sometimes us alter/underground music type of fans act pretentious. I'm guilty of it myself at times. Thinking I'm better. It's about the music, not about me.

  • This is what ive been trying to explain to alot of people.

I mean at one point the band agreed for american dad to use their band and theyre music.

So if any of the hardcore fans get pissed off they should get pissed off at the band and not the people who watched it. ¬_¬

  • @Zebra5775 ... yeah, i agree. i mean, i've listened to these guys for 2 1/2 years or so and i was glad to see them on the show. i think a lot of people listen to shitty music simply because they don't have the exposure to anything outside the crappy radio/MTV mainstream, and i hope people who saw them on the show continue to follow them and branch out into other indie stuff. nice post.

  • Exactly. You want to hear some great underground bands check out Arts and Crafts records. They have a channel here.

  • i understand where your coming from. I loved MMJ before they went on american dad. And all those people that came from American dad are great. Im betting MMJ is thrilled to have all these new fans.

  • @Zebra5775 because for some people the fact that it's not very well known and not "mainstream" is part of the reason why they like a band. and when such music is exposed to the mass, they feel the exclusivity to be gone, and being different to the mass is part of the way they see their insecure identify, therefore are annoyed as a result.

  • everyone has a right to music, not just people who found it first. besides i think mmj has ALOT more haters than lovers, a couple more thousand people liking them isnt going to make them alot bigger, they're still pretty underground.

  • You are saying that because they are not mainstream is the reason people liked them? That's stupid. People like them because they play great music - they just weren't mainstream yet. And a band as good as them are not going to stay out of the mainstream for long.

  • @HeyJaw no, i said for SOME people, it's PART of the reasons, why they like it, and the fact that they've gone onto a mainstream media would considered to be "selling out" for some idiotic hipsters. so unless you are one of them, there's no reason why you would see my opinion stupid.

  • @HeyJaw People who tend to shy away from the mainstream music, like me, do so not just because everyone else begins to like the band; although that is a factor. It's just that, once a band trickles into the mainstream, more times than not they lose integrity and begin catering to the masses, which changes what was great about their sound. Now, I'm not talking about MMJ in particular, but I'm just saying. :)

  • you could not be more right. i heard mmj from american dad, so what? if someone can give me a GOOD reason why im not aloud to listen to them, ill consider it.

  • @Zebra5775 hipster faggots will be hipster faggots.

  • @Zebra5775. spoken like a true asshole.

  • @Zebra5775 cheers for that. anyone who thinks they are entitled to a bands love for being the original fan, and shuts out newcombers in the process, needs to focus on other things, like the awesome music in front of them!!

  • @Zebra5775 HIPSTARZZZZZZZZZZz R MADDDDDD

  • @Time4TheDeed MAD HIPSTAR IS MAD

  • @Zebra5775 Seriourly, huh? I know there are some ways that aren't so EPIC to figure out about MMJ, but at least people find out about them. And I see nothing wrong with MMJ getting popular, some people are just so stupid.

  • @Zebra5775. u mad?...noob

  • @Zebra5775- Brilliant

  • @Zebra5775 True! Thanks Seth MacFarlane.

  • @Zebra5775 Amer to that. Musics meant to be shared, not horded and caged up by rabid "true" fans.

  • @Zebra5775 totally agree. Isn't music supposed to be a great social sharing experience?

  • @Zebra5775

nothing pisses me off more than music elitists that take the fun out of rocking out.

  • @Zebra5775 bum badabum

  • @Zebra5775 werd dawg werd

  • @Zebra5775 amen. Real fans should be glad the band they support got the exposure which brought them at least one more fan. this one.

  • @Zebra5775

I saw it through American Dad. I guess if I just saw Indie movies and read the Stranger instead of the New York Times I'd be cool.

  • @Zebra5775 My friend, I love what you're saying. You are indeed a champion against all douchebaggery. I found these guys through a friend, not through the show, so I believe my opinion can be considered unbiased.

  • @Zebra5775 totally dude :P i discovered this band because of family guy too and i am not an hipster so i am ok with it

  • @Zebra5775 i used to be a basher about music, but i could care less now. it started with me in hugh school i liked led zeppelin and all the metal heads were intio priest and maiden and were saying who the fuck is led zeppelin, they suck! couple years later they were wearing zeppelin t-shirts. that kinda pissed me off,but i laff about it now.

  • me encanta esta rola

  • Agreed.

  • Z is one of the best albums of this decade.

  • You're tremendously right. Pitchfork named it #146 in their staff shortlist of the Top 200 albums of the 2000's.

It is a marvelously brilliant and a greatly enjoyable album! A mandatory listen to everyone and a definite favorite to me.

This is doubtlessly one of the first records I'd introduce my children to (when I get to have children : )

  • surely xD

  • mmj has gotten way more listeners since american dad

  • They still arent a commercial band in britain wich is a shame as the music here now sucks donkey balls

  • Word Madonna said really helped, she said: Boy, you'd better learn to EXPRESS YOURSEL!!!

    go to: watch?v=12wP5W2R0wY

"Don't go fo second best, baby, put your love to the test!"

  • 2:16 -- "Word Madonna said..."

  • lol it sounds really funny but i'm pretty sure james says "but, what madonnna said". at least that's what he proclaims in the lyrics...for all i know he could be pulling the wool over all of our eyes :)
