We can all make comments in regards to this story because we're peering in at an exact moment. The problem is there is such a disconnect between the city and it's people. The city for not finding better ways to work in this environment and condition and the people for ignoring the constant requests to move there vehicle so that the teams that do snow removal can properly do their jobs.
So you can come down on any side you want to, but the truth is, they are both equally at fault.
@BONZAII42 How was they to move the vehicles? Look how much snow is there. Why do you think the snow removal is happening? Maybe so people could get their vehicles out? That front end loader was stuck in the snow and look at the lugs on them tires and that was 4x4 also.
@killerspeed101 Well, one things for sure. The city holds no liability for possibly damaged vehicles. It wouldn't make sense if they did. Besides, Who needs a vehicle that big in a city anyway?. But trust me, there is a reason why special lisences are needed to operate machinery. They are not as easy to drive as they seem. Loaders, Graders and Dump trucks get stuck A LOT. However, now that i think about it. The thing didn't have chains. Doesn't look like they were prepared.
@killerspeed101 As i said, Do their job. They have to clear roads. Whats more important, 2 Cars, or hundreds of peoples lives. If those roads arent cleared people have NO idea what to do. I live in an Area where there is snow 7/12 Months.... 8 last year. Trust me, It isn't as easy or as simple as it seems. I doubt the workers were happy about their Carnage either. Not that the Cameraman could see that staying up in his home while these people have to deal with this.
@killerspeed101 I would be pissed, and you are right. I am just amazed that they have no Chains. I mean, you can only do so much. However the dude should have been properly trained. I have seen this video so many times now. He did, what he could. He had to move on to get more important roads. Still, i doubt he was an expert and im still boggled that they have no chains.
@halflife103 typicall liberal.. to quote you "who needs a vehicle that big in the city anyway?" wow,, this is where we are headed, being told what kind of car we should be driving because you knows whats best for us dont you? gosh, so glad i dont live in the states anymore.. you only have to look at where liberals have taken over (detroit, chicago, los angeles ) to see the US is going to fail in the next few years...
@flycentro123 I have driven a large vehicle in a large city. It is Highly impractical. Even more so for the average city slicker who cannot drive to save their lives. It is more practical to dive a Mid-Small sized vehicle. You know how many people out there can't even drive Small vehicles?. I say THAT because i am tired of having to swerve to avoid some dumb fuck who cannot drive. I am not telling you what to drive... That would be dumb. I am just suggesting based on location.
@halflife103 So because you are a fucking moron you want to impose what you think we should do? Go have some fish and chips and fix your damn teeth already...

So a lunatic in a tow truck and a lunatic in a payloader give the goobers a chance to take more pot shots at government workers everywhere. cslicer's idiotic remark is par for the course. Would love to know the entire story here. Were both the tow operator and the equipment guy city employees? How many hours had each been on the job that day prior to this disaster? Lots of questions would have to answered before I'd go running off at the mouth claiming all sanitation workers are stupid..
This is a perfect display of everything wrong with government today: Bloomberg has the time and resources to control how much salt we eat and how much trans-fats are used in our food... but he cannot clear the damn snow nor hire competent employees. I bet these people will not be fired (because they're unionized of course).
@cslicer But that would require intelligence. It's been proven the sanitation department personnel have little to no intelligence. Thats why they do what they do. So NOW how do you feel about living in New York? Pretty cool huh?
oh yeah, the two drivers..well all i can say is, it must be pretty easy to get a job as a driver of these vehicles if these two morons can get a job! "hey buddy, can you drive?", "yeah?" "ok, you got the job!"
"It isn't that much damage" "Shouldn't park on the street" Do you live in Brooklyn? Do you own a car? Not everyone has a driveway to park in, and if it was YOUR car it would be a much different story.
@xxyourscenesucks People shouldn't be allowed to register a fucking vehicle until they can PROVE they have an off-street parking spot, BOTH at home and at work.
@sharx35 Ok then they should have parking lots on every corner for the people who live on each block in highly urban areas, because off street parking for every single human being in Brooklyn is not even remotely possible
figures its in brooklyn, outer boroughs get no respect, brooklyn queens bronx stat island - NYC to outer boroughs, go **** yourselves you ain;t got enuf cash for respect in this city. Manhattan was plowed nice by the day after.
They got work to be done. One fucked up car isn't gonna put a dent in the citys budget nearly as much as how much money could have been lost if that plow was stuck for the entire day. Sucks for the owners but they'll get there cars fixed. I don't see anything wrong with what the supervisor for the tow truck driver or the plow driver did. They just need to keep the streets clear so people can make their money and give it to the state.
Shouldn't have parked on the streets like that. The owners of that car deserve that for being so stupid. Beside, it's a small scratch on the passenger side, nothing more.
In the end, does it matter that the vehicle was owned by the city? Yes, because it means that the cost of the damages these clearly disturbed individuals caused is coming out of taxpayers' pockets.
Even being city owend you cant tell me there wasnt an easier way to pull out that front end loader with out hitting them cars? And expeinced tow truck driver can do some amazing things!
@starlite33 Streets are for fucking moving traffic, NOT for the storage of vehicles. There are LOTS of private parking garages in NYC where one can park for a fee. Parking on the street is a PRIVILEGE, NOT a right.
These guys should loose their jobs right away, before anyone's else car will be damaged or moreover people injured. Insane people!! What they were thinking about?? And those comments about that the car was barely touched, another not quite sane people...
i wouldn't say this is the tow truckers fault.. the person trying to wiggle the plow while being pulled bashes into that SUV multiple times.. especially that last one after he was already next to it he turned the front again and just smacked the SUV... did he have his eyes open? what a dunce.
Another reason why new york is worthless. Stupid tow truck driver, stupid tractor driver but even stupider person with a camera just constantly yelling "are you outta your mind?"...no they're not but you're not helping by yelling that, go help you worthless POS.
This is just another instance of the disregard gov't workers have for the rights of the taxpayers who pay these two-bit sleazeballs their salaries and benefits! How much trouble could it have been for this city gov't worker to find the vehicle owner and ask him to move his SUV? Like I say, they don't give a shit, because they see the disregard gov't bureaucrats have for the people in general and so they just follow the example.
what, pulling the two vehicles out of the way first was too much work? i guess it was worth the multi-thousand dollar lawsuit to just beat the crap out of the car instead.
even if they are all city owned, does that makes it all right? someone still has to pay for the repairs, and if they are city owned, then it's likely that the money is going to come from taxes. i would have rather paid the driver $50 an hour to tow the two vehicles out of the way first instead of paying thousands in repair bills.
so many comments about that not even being destroyed, and theres barely any damage done, but if that was your car, you'd be pretty pissed off, now wouldn't you.
@maverickpoint - there is a ton of damage. The rear bumper alone will cost $1000. The passenger side was ripped. Both back and front are damaged. The frame may be twisted. There is easily $15,000 - 20,000 damage to that SUV not to mention the other vehicle in front that got hit.
@incub8 yeah thats what i was getting at in my comment. not sure if it fully came across. a lot of other people have written comments about this car, barely having any damage when clearly theres a TON of damage done. i for one would sue that towing company. lol
@maverickpoint - "barely any damage done"..WTF? I"m sure if that was your car, and someone said that to you, you'd knock em' on their ass! I see a few thousand dollars worth of damage....even if it is a 'city owned SUV'...but what's really funny is the dude who is filming it saying "are you f***ing serious?"...dude...you're in New York City...what else would you expect? NY is filled with a shit load of 'city workers' who just don't give a flying rats ass about anything except themselves!
@MrSixFive ive been getting a lot of negative replies on what i said. please re-read it. im saying that i read comments from other people that said those things, im not saying that.
@maverickpoint - My bad! I mis-read your comment..you're right...for those who are saying and/or /have said 'there's hardly any damage done'...i think they need to have their heads examined!
I hope those two city employees lose their job and suffer from savage gay rape after they clean out their locker. people of that mental caliber need to be removed from their homes and tested for MR (mental retardation).
I don't give a fuck how much it would have costed in "down time" the point is they should have actually tried some human decency and manuvered the damn snow plow away from the SUV before having the wrecker pull it out. Ten minutes with a experienced driver would have gotten the job done. How about this....10k worth of damage to vehicle costs less than the "down time" they would pay....even better 0 dollars for 10 minutes of manuvering with 0 "down time."
The snow shovel could have crab walked out of the hole by using it shovel to lift it out of the hole and twisting the body in the middle until it was in the middle of the street.
The tow truck driver was in the wrong position to pull it out of the hole to be begin with which is obvious once he pulls and slides into the row of cars because the cable is at the wrong angle.
I agree with pbeachy - in fact, I think the tow truck was ordered to get it out with any means necessary. It would probably cost a lot more money to the city to get another plow truck, as well as the business owners who don't get business because their streets are not plowed. They probably calculated that it is cheaper to do $10K of damage on a car and get the plow out. They just should have told the owners of the car that it might happen.
uhh - ya think that might be categorized as "recklessness" & "leaving the scene of an accident"? Certainly the NYPD has issued citations and if not WHY NOT? Accountability should certainly be required of the pea-brained wacko driving the tow-truck.
Moving heavy equipment with no room to play it is almost inevitable something like this would happen. Once the car got hit, oh well it was damaged, so just do what you need to in order to get the equipment operational and back working. If they had left it stuck, it would have cost way more in down time than the repairs to the car. I am honestly SHOCKED that som many people are shocked and upset by this.
The yahoo nws story said the owner of the SUV (with 95,000) is a city employee. Do these people know each other? The story said the neighbors (not the SUV guy) were shouting at the equipment drivers. I smell a New York rat looking for a new set of wheels.
sad part about it is the Mayor Bloombergs reaction. He said if you got damaged file a claim. No apology from the city and no reprimand or anything to the tow truck driver. I guess since the mayor is rich so is the city of New York
The problem is not him hitting the car, The real problem is when he says to hell with it and hits it over and over. He should be fired for the blatent disregard for priverate property. As far as the comment to chill out and let insurance pay, just helps everyones rates go up and up and up!!!
This people just don't care for other peoples properties. They both should be put on discipline suspencions for the damage the didi to those cars.....
yeah he would get shot around here if he did that to my truck! thats fing stupid! No dont hit my car.... f that go down there and make him stop. Just saying...lol

The stupidest pair of drivers ever.
The snow shovel could have crab walked out of the hole by using it shovel to lift it out of the hole and twisting the body in the middle until it was in the middle of the street.
The tow truck driver was in the wrong position to pull it out of the hole to be begin with which is obvious once he pulls and slides into the row of cars because the cable is at the wrong angle.
this all could have been avoided
StreetBeastTech 1 year ago

@EllieMcTex the 3 vehicles are city owned, the 2 guys knew that. Watch some news

Moving heavy equipment with no room to play it is almost inevitable something like this would happen. Once the car got hit, oh well it was damaged, so just do what you need to in order to get the equipment operational and back working. If they had left it stuck, it would have cost way more in down time than the repairs to the car. I am honestly SHOCKED that som many people are shocked and upset by this.
pbeachy 1 year ago
@pbeachy I suspect that with this video evidence, there will be punitive damages in addition to the cost of the TWO vehicles.
generation1313 1 year ago
@pbeachy you're saying that it would have cost more than $10,000 if they left the thing stuck? DOUBTFUL

kwedgworth2000 1 year ago
The yahoo nws story said the owner of the SUV (with 95,000) is a city employee. Do these people know each other? The story said the neighbors (not the SUV guy) were shouting at the equipment drivers. I smell a New York rat looking for a new set of wheels.
wooderist 1 year ago
sad part about it is the Mayor Bloombergs reaction.
