You're better off making an entirely new rush game from scratch like this guy. He's got the gravity and handling down, and the track he's driving on seems to be inspired by rush2. I'd check it out o.O
You can only play a few tracks, some things are odd like... you can use stunt wings in race mode and there are even lighter gravity settings, heavy gravity settings and the fog/wind slider bars have a different skin. the stunt mode track select screen is a little different, and the in-game coins that you collect have a massive shining aura around them... other than that its very close to the final dc release copy of the game.
@Ace9921 No timer. No Checkpoint system. Lame, I know...there is only that yellow font - 5min timer for ghost race / stunt mode. I wish it had checkpoints, it gives the game a different feel even though I'd never run out of time. Also you can only play as the Rocket ZX car. It includes Single, Ghost, Practice, and Stunt mode but you can't save anything even with a VMU installed. It is 2p enabled if you connect a 2nd controller. I also noticed the horn option is missing from the car select screen.
@DJSDJSOMGMANG - Ugh... really not what I wanted(and the Rocket ZX is NOT the car I use). I wanted a prototype version like the one otokonokorisu has. Still, it'd be interesting just to see it in action. I will make note of one thing: I think the checkpoint system was never implemented during the game's development process, only the timer.
But anyways, if you can, dump the disc. I'd like to try it out. Although I can't PM you what you need for the SD Card mod for some reason.
@Ace9921 THIS is the version you're looking for. :)

I remember watching these IGN videos on IGNs website back in 2000 or something. The tire screech sounds are different and wings are tiny. I was dying for this game to come out on DC. Check out the physics on that last stunt video, lol?
@DJSDJSOMGMANG - Yeah, but I STILL have not found this version ANYWHERE. Not for the Dreamcast and not for the Nintendo 64 either. Your version should serve as a nice filler until I find this release, though.
It's times like these where I really consider ROM hacking Rush 2 Extreme Racing USA for the Nintendo 64 with San Francisco Rush 2049's UI, music, cars and tracks. Except I've never done a ROM hack in my life, so I'd need A LOT of help for that.
Hey I was just looking for that video you were talking about of the prototype rush2049. If it's the version that otokonokorisu uploaded then it's not the same as mine. I have a more finalized 'DEMO' version
@DJSDJSOMGMANG - Yeah. Or, if you have a serial cable, you can just hack it up and add in the SD Card slot at the other end of the cable. I'd personally go for an internal SD Card mod.
I'm looking at the disc, compared to the original sfrush2049 disc it's identical. Is there a way to tell by just looking at the disc? I mean it was made for Dreamcast to play so it's probably GD-ROM right? When I put the disc in my cd drive an audio plays, a woman saying "warning, this disc is for use only on sega dreamcast" I'd dump it if you told me how :)
@Ace9921 - Okay, one question: do you have the Dreamcast broadband adapter? You could your Dreamcast discs through that. If not, there's a way to dump the disc to an SD Card. I don't know the specifics, but I'm currently looking it up.
@DJSDJSOMGMANG - Is it the Broadband Adapter or just the basic 56K modem? If it's the 56K modem, you can't use that. The alternative is to build an SD Card adapter you can plug into the Serial port and dump the disc to an SD Card.
@DJSDJSOMGMANG - Yeah, the only other alternative is to build an SD Card adapter. This should only be attempted if you're handy with a soldering iron. Otherwise, you can purchase a pre-made SD Card adapter.
This is really awesome very nice work. If you still have the audio files it would be easy to change the files in Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition which is now re-released on DVD opposed to the original 4 CDs, there is no more copy protection and the audio files are simple WAVs in a folder :) cheers in advance.
@tweaklab - I actually have the original 4-CD release of Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition sitting around in a bin somewhere. I'll have to reinstall the game on one of my computers which meet or exceed the recommended specs and apply my authentic sound mod to that.
But I remember there being some really nasty audio glitches with San Francisco Rush The Rock in Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition as well as missing sound effects. Would you mind sending me your copy's audio folder?
Its a shame they had to screw with the sound engine in the first place. They should have kept all the sounds as well as the sound engine the same, Its odd having to listen to the drone engines the whole time, and it can throw off your gear-shifting if you go by the sound most of the time.
@TheScarletwingShade - This issue only affects the GameCube version. The PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions have separate engine sounds for all player cars and the drones, although the drone engine sounds themselves overpower your own car's engine sound in the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions.
Speaking of which, I'm still trying to figure out just what kind of sound format the Xbox version uses. There still has been no progress restoring original audio into the Xbox version because of this.
So I'm planning on hacking my Wii with the Letterbomb hack. Is there a way to activate the ability to play Gamecube backups on the Wii? A response would be much appreciated!! :)
@isaacyuen103 - Dolphin has problems with games that use Bink video files to stream videos and music, so the music will always stutter. I've tried it while testing to see if the mods worked before trying them out on a real GameCube and Wii, and what would happen would be that the music or video would play for not even a second, then you'll get one second of complete silence. Rinse and repeat. The only way to play Midway Arcade Treasures 3 perfectly is to use a GameCube or Wii.
@Ace9921 So the only way to play this game perfectly then is to use a hacked wii or gamecube then? :/ if so...... blah......... thanks for the help anyway.
Im sure you will have better luck with Xbox version (that is if you plan to), its by far the closest to the MAME ver outside of sound of course. If you need help with formats check out Xbox Scene im sure they can help you out. If only there was a way to run Rush 2049 on modern consoles or PCs....shame
@PARANOiASurvivor290 - There is a link in the video description to a ZIP archive containing all the modified sound files as well as instructions on how to apply the mod.
@PARANOiASurvivor290 - No, but I can rerecord them for you. They will be longer than in the mod as I had to cut down on the length of the songs due to file size limitations.
@killernat - San Francisco Rush 2049 was actually THE game that got me into going out to an arcade and playing games there. I was never really satisfied with the home console ports of the Rush games, especially not San Francisco Rush 2049, which felt COMPLETELY different from the arcade original on the Atari Denver arcade board due to A) the lack of a timer and checkpoints(seriously, WTF?), B) altered tracks, and C) only 6 cars on the track at once instead of 8.
There exists a prototype version of San Francisco Rush 2049 which is considerably different from the final release. While checkpoints are missing, the game is buggy(not so much in Race mode) and the tracks are altered, the timer's there and you have 8 cars on the track at once. Some lucky bastard managed to get a copy of this prototype for the Dreamcast and posted some clips of the game on YouTube. Man, the things I'd do to get my hands on that prototype. It's been years I wanted to get it.
But what annoyed me even more than San Francisco Rush The Rock having absolutely murdered audio is the fact Midway decided to use the Dreamcast version of San Francisco Rush 2049 in Midway Arcade Treasures 3. This is a compilation of ARCADE games, for God's sake! Why in hell put home console ports on a collection of arcade games??? Jeez!
I have a copy of this, its for dreamcast, its a prototype rush2049 with adjustable gravity and other settings. The cd cover is the same as the real game but its in black and white. would you like me to show a video of it?
@DJSDJSOMGMANG - Never mind just showing the prototype, I want that damn disc to be dumped. I'm not a big fan of the actual release and I've been DYING to get the prototype.
@Ace9921 Amen brother....i cant stand the DC version after playing the arcade version soo much. Imagine this game, 2049, heck most if all these games plus i say California Speed in HD on 360 and PS3. I loved doing ghost TT on the arcade 2049 so much...good times.
@X3CuT1oNR - Same here. With the arcade version of San Francisco Rush 2049, I strive to complete a race as fast as I possibly can. After having been humiliated by an expert player who knew how to exploit the respawning glitches in the original 1999 release, I practiced as hard as I could to beat those guys who knew how to exploit the glitches.
I then was able to put this practice to use against two expert players who knew how to exploit the glitches and had made mention that not everyone knows about them after I challenged those two to a 3-way race on Night. And I had a friend with me that day, so when I not only exploited those bugs as well as I could, but also beat those players using some tricks I found to exploit the bugs even faster, he could not believe what he just saw and neither could the other players.
Mind you, I think I was 15 or 16 when this happened(I'm 19 now), and the other players were older than I am. They were in total disbelief at what I just pulled off.
I never felt so good playing San Francisco Rush 2049. ^_^ I'm not trying to brag, I'm just sharing one of my best moments playing the arcade version of San Francisco Rush 2049.
@X3CuT1oNR - I only ever saw one glitch used on The Rock(turn around at the 3rd checkpoint then respawn in the middle of the curve while pointing towards the wall), but Night(Track 5) was full of them. I don't know if Morning, Noon and Sunset have the same glitches, but from the ghosts I've seen that were stored on San Francisco Rush 2049 cabinets I've played, they didn't seem to exploit any respawning glitches of that sort.
What causes them, anyways? I'd really like to know.
Why Midway decided to change the sound in the first place is beyond me.
