The whole time it looks so accurate, and then you see the '70 cars and the people in their 70's fashion! LOL
Anyway, NASA has brought us a lot of good stuff, from nice pictures and footage, up to very important scientific data (Like Hubble's pictures and their contribution to science).
So much respect for the people that keep 'pioneering' going on.
BTW : all the best to Mark E. Kelly and Gabrielle.
@2eelShmeal They'll come down in the russian Soyuz capsule, the same way your astronauts will be getting up there, and have been when they havent taken the shuttle.
There were high hopes back then that the shuttle would make space more accessable. Sadly two disasters revealed some of its many shortcomings. The original concept was that it would be carried to the edge of space on the back of a giant lift aircraft far bigger than a 747 but it never left the drawing board. Instead they used a scaled down concept using solid fuel engines.
Thank you so much for uploading this piece of history! It is amazing to see this now, as the space shuttle program nears its end, it's a breath of fresh air to see the shuttle program as a brand new technology, a new adventure to explore our final frontier.
altitudes there calling they are dropping like a rock

Thank You, Fred Haise. Beautiful landing.

Fucking amazing piloting by the chase plane pilots. It's like they glued themselves to the shuttle all the way up to the landing

This wasn't an actual launched shuttle, it was just made for a landing test and didn't have real engines.

@PeterFLOYDIAN I was thinking the same: Such high tech in a low tech time. lol
2eelShmeal 7 months ago
@2eelShmeal Well actually, I wrote 'accurate', when I meant 'current' or 'contemporary',
but you got the point, it was so far ahead of it's time, and the 'basic principle' of the Space shuttle never changed.
So sad it had to end.

@PeterFLOYDIAN So if you were up in the ISS right now, would you be a little worried about how you're getting home now with no shuttle? lol

@2eelShmeal I'd be hoping for spaceship2 with the 'feathered reentry' principle, to come and take me home. ;)
