Winter Classic - National Anthems, Star Spangled Banner is BEYOND Overdone

nothing overdone about this anthem, this is how it always is in Chicago... there's just A LOT more people here than in the U.C. is all. I wish our anthem had this much energy in Detroit.. even though our singer (Karen Newman) is excellent, the people don't go nuts like this.

Thats how they do it. If a Canadian team comes to an American city, they'll sing both anthems (I recall the Bulls did it during a Raptors game). The Star Spangled Banner as you see hear is how it is EVERY night. Just type in Blackhawks National Anthem here & you'll see the "LetsGo" & others arent kidding.

Nice try, but incorrect. The first time Hawk fans ever cheered during the National Anthem was back in the mid 80's during a playoff series against Gretzky, Messier & the Edmonton Oilers. The Hawks got spanked in games 1 & 2. Game 3 was at the Chicago Stadium. Fans were desperate to spark the Hawks so they started to cheer during the National Anthem and have been doing so ever since.

The 91 All Star game is the Anthem most Hawk fans compare any other Anthem to. I know every game I've been to this season I think, "Not even close to '91". Being at this game, you couldn't hear Jim at all while he was singing. Maybe it was close in noise, but the crowd was also twice the size of any crowd in the Stadium or UC.

History Lesson: The first time Blackhawks fans really cheered this loudly during the National Anthem was during the 1991 All-Star game, which was held at the old Chicago Stadium. It was just after Desert Storm began, so when the Anthem was sung the crowd cheered loudly to show support for our troops. That is why, to this day, Blackhawks fans cheer loudly during the National Anthem.

Kinda funny how a lot of people say this anthem is overdone. If you've never been to the United Center for a Hawks game; every single anthem for every single game is just like this one. Well, there are no fireworks or fighter planes in the UC but you know what I mean.

Usually with two American teams there is just the National Anthem. But since the Winter Classic is suck a big event I think it is necessary to have both.
