sigh. col. cathhart had the cigarette holder, not korn. plus the guy removes his cigarette twice, there at the end.. continuity wasn't an issue, i guess...
Pretty much the best scenes in a criminally under rated film. I would add the scene where General Dreedle enters the briefing room and orders the men to take Maj. Danby out and shoot him is hilarious. And the old pimp scene where the pimp tells Nately the Italians will win the war by losing it.

Good point. Even though he won an oscar a year or two ago, and he has had a successfuly career in show business, Arkin never did rise to that upper echelon of "A-list" actors.
Oh, I wanted to watch this film, but after the vid I know I must not. The book is great, one of my faves, but the trailers are dissapointing for me :( Is the film like this short vid? The book is million times better then... (and sorry for my english, but I'm hungarian)
that is a an old complaint. the only solution is to read the book first, which you've done. Its a brilliant film, but they are two different mediums, and some things have to be different.
The book was extremely funny and this was a brave attempt to film it, but it could never do the book justice.
Highlights the start of the film with the bombers taking of on a mission at dawn, Milo being payed by the Germans to bomb and strafe his own base and General Dreedles Mitchell bomber with white wall tyres
Mike nichols did an amazing job, filming what was to many at the time an unfilmable book.I reckon that along with MASH its one of the greatest anti war films ever.I often wonder what ORSON WELLES take on it would have been like,he tried before Nicols to get it off the ground as director.

Was a disgusting filthy A H movie and was at the time shown on my base in 1970, it was not funny for the damage it did, never mind being pro or anti anything, it was a stupid vile movie.
Any chance of this Catch-22 film scene 'there was only one catch and that was Catch-22, if he flew them he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to.'
how old was Tony in this flick??? late 30's? still has that boyishly cute face & smile.

is the movie a good representation of the book?

@Flickerfly " I almost expect him to follow with, "You're so cute!"
Ha ha. That may be what was intended. The book starts with something like, "The first time Yossarian saw Chaplin Tappin, he fell madly in love."

Leonard Maltin was right. This movie is heavy-handed.

Psychologically disturbed people, problems and murderers were well interpreted by Perkins.
He did not fit interpret "good guys" in movies.
And that has made him a good actor, I LOVE the villains in the movies hehehe...

the brilliant joke underlying this is that Anthony Perkins was also famous for Psycho.....
