i would watch anime more if some had black characters in it,the most foreign characters ive seen is caucasian characters,even some of the main characters are white.
People People you all forgot the strongest smartest best black manga character of them all BISCUIT OLIVA . A black manga character from Baki, based on a black Cuban body builder The Myth SERGIO OLIVA. You can't argue that he wasn't black that's impossible.
I'm going to have to say Dutch from Black Lagoon is my favorite black male character. Ye he is a side character but he is the leader/Boss of the group, made up of american chinese/american, and japense, and he can go toe to toe with other dangerous organizations of the series some of which owe him favors like Balalaika (the russians) Might not be the most powerful, or coolest, but he's got to be one of the most respected black characters out there.

If you are curious, you can look up the history for it, but a few of the Japanese who do live in Brazil have married Brazillians of other races. This is why it is very possible to have a girl name Michiko who is of African descent in Brazil. I used to live in Toyohashi, Japan which has a big Brazilian Japanese and Peruvian Japanese population. Sorry for rambling.
Black and Latina/o aren't mutually exclusive. But anywho, they speak Portuguese in Brazil. Michiko is at least partially of African heritage, but you know, Brazil, so there may or may not be some degree of mixture there.
And for people talking about her name, it's a fucking anime. You're saying she's not Black because her name is Michiko, but you can accept that she's from Brazil...named Michiko?...really? ooookay.

I think there should be more black characters featured in future animes/manga. A little diversity never hurts. Looking forward to seeing what Guardians of Luna plans on doing with the character, Alan Jedda.

Come to think of it, I remember reading something for a Japanese Mangaka about how they make the characters relatable to the target audiance. More "Black" characters are appearing because the amount of Black people who are into anime and manga is growing. Most all of the manga and anime I'm into either had Black characters from the start or they are adding them in. Example: Bleach, Naruto, etc.

@LottoLogista I dunno, I guess it's for contrast. Like, you see a lot of black characters with white, red, or blonde hair because it makes their skin stand out a bit more. Couple that with light eyes and the contrast makes for a unique, yet kinda ethnic, character.
And not everyone in the village is black. 2-Tails and Samui are white with blonde hair. So is the medic ninja (whose name escapes me) for Raikage's team.

In the manga, Leon Sykes eventually becomes something of an ally, going up against other record execs. The main portrayal of him is a guy who's utterly ruthless, but still ultimately believes in the power of music.
Panther, as a character is pretty cool. Unfortunately, every time he's around, some character is always going on about the "natural muscles of black people" or something like that. It gets old pretty quick.
You forgot about Dutch from Black Lagoon! Strong silent type and deadly to boot! Not the most attract (neither was the anime :-/) but certainly worth a mention! :D

In the manga, Leon Sykes eventually becomes something of an ally, going up against other record execs. The main portrayal of him is a guy who's utterly ruthless, but still ultimately believes in the power of music.
Panther, as a character is pretty cool. Unfortunately, every time he's around, some character is always going on about the "natural muscles of black people" or something like that. It gets old pretty quick.

Yoruichi's race is Black. Yammy Llargo referred to her as black in the anime. Up until that point I was questioning it too.
