I'm amazed at how some atheists react when I tell them what faith actually is in the Bible:

Me: Faith in the Bible means trust based on experience and knowledge. The Greek word pistis is pretty clear.

Dumb atheist: WRONG! Faith goes against all reason and religion is based on lies and blindness. You worship a big SKY DADDY!

THey always talk shit and act all condescending as if they are the fucking inventors of life and know everything. And whenever you say "hey, calling someone a silly little thing with a sheet on her head or calling muhammed a pedo is a waste of time" they say "well but we have to eradicate religion through ridicule". REally? How many theists have converted atheists by ridiculing them? How many debates have been won by ridiculing the opponent? Hateful bigoted teemagers, thats what they are.

I am an atheist but I am fucking ashamed of these so called rationalists and free thinkers who are nothing but dogmatic pseudo theists. They are everything that extremist theists are but without god and that doesn't make it any better. And even if you are an atheist you can't say shit. If you try to have an honest discussion about god you are cursed at and called a poe or a fake atheist, if you disagree with a mainstream atheist you are a muslim or a christian. Its bullshit and frightening.

THey always say "Extremists who take their holybook literally are the biggest threat to mankind" but whenever a theist says "I have a different interpretation" they immediately try to proof that the extremist have the right interpretation. Just like with muslims, they say this verse says kill unbelievers, muslim says nah you interpret it wrong and then these idiot atheist try to proof how the extremists are right, so whos side are they on? THe moderates or the extremists?

And the way you try to draw parallels between a person's faith in scripted mythology (religion) and Thunderf00t's faith in his ability to make decisions which will keep him safe and unharmed - are very difficult to accept. The provisions we make to remain safe in life are not a product of blind faith - but logical planning based on observable, real-world evidence. It's not the same as repeating dogmatic mantras, kneeling before statues or having conversations in your head.

@AJAXxxTheHumanist Yes it is faith, but I think it's clear when Tf00t says 'faith is the new stupid' he's saying 'religion is the new stupid'. He's not talking about the concept of faith on a wider scale, but as specifically connected to religion. I think really if you want to criticise Tf00t, you need to do more than just call him names. I mean what is it that you specifically take issue with? Just verbally abusing him as a person (ad hominem or whatever) only makes you look bad, just saying..

@AJAXxxTheHumanist A person who doesn't have religious beliefs isn't necessarily an atheist, and I think trying to explain peoples' actions by looking at whether they believe in god or not is a waste of time: both people who believe in god and people who don't believe in god have the potential to do bad things, based on the fact that 'people are capable of doing bad things', and both are examples of 'people'.

I used to enjoy tf00t when his videos focused on more interesting science stuff (astronomy for example), but he has definitely 'gone hollywood'. I dont watch many of his videos now. However I have to say that ultimately he is completely f**king harmless!! Super-nerd if nothing else. Getting angry with him seems pointless to me.

Although I agree that Tf00t can come across as a self-righteous dick sometimes, I think his protest is fundamentally against scripture and religious dogma, whether it be from Christianity, Scientology, or whatever. He supports the scientific method. How important things he does are, I don't know - but his overall idea of questioning things and allowing yourself to re-evaluate what you think and believe are central to man's development. Thinking religiously is a step back.
