  • the guy who served me my first sidecar rimmed the damn thing with rock salt...Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it alright to do that at all?

  • @Gearfried Your instincts are correct... no salt. Actually, no salt on the rim, nor simple syrup in the drink, either.

    the bartender obviously had no idea what a sidecar is... the only major variations in sidecars is if you want no sugar at all (the original recipe) or with sugar added... usually if it's added it's rimmed on the glass, but it's also often simply mixed into the drink

    using lemon or orange as the garnish is another variable, but doesn't seem to get people as riled up as the sugar-vs-no sugar debate does
